This game will have minimal impact on PS3 sales, lol...but, I guess call it what you want, but software doesn't distract a gamer from a $600 purchase.

You really can't call anything before it happens, but I'd put money on Gow being one of the hottest games this holiday season. Will it stop PS3 sales? No, because I don't know many people who like both the 360 and the PS3, but it could have an effect on sales of the 360 against the PS3, given how popular the game could be.

Of course, the hype places it in "Halo porportions," of which cannot be completely counted against, but IMO it will be big... But not "Halo BIG."

I have a strange feeling that GOW will turn out to be a big dissappontmet for some reason. Nothing specific, just a gut feeling. I just don't think the masses will embrace it like a Halo, GTA, or Gran Turismo. We'll see soon enough I guess.

Me, I'm looking forward to Forza 2 more than anything else on XB360...

I think Gear of Wars will be an American version of Metal Gear Solid.

When I see more than 2 to 3 enemies on screen I'll be impressed, until then, it's not as "action packed" as it's been touted. Sure, it looks great, but I think I'll get tired of dispatching 2 or 3 enemies and then just waiting for more, duck and hide. Not to mention it seems the enemies are completely oblivious to grenades...

I dunno, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, the presentation and graphics are aewsome, on another, it looks rather boring and repetative.

Jeremy Ricci - You need a hug. I don't think you have had a positive post on GTPlanet since you signed up.

Listen, the number of enemies on-screen doesn't make or break a game. That's like saying Halloween or Friday the 13th wouldn't be scary or profitable movies because they only had 1 bad guy.

Repetative? Maybe, but that's still a moot point. What game isn't?

That's not my point really. My point is, it seems rather "limited" in terms of actual "strategy" that it seems so focused on. Where is the strategy in waiting for your opponents to peak their heads out and then shoot them? The AI was bad.

Really, the only thing that has me excited for this game is possibly the Online mode, hopefully, even with as little as 8 player online, it will be an enjoyable experience.

And it's not that I don't have positive posts, I just tend to be a bit more level headed when it comes to new franchises, and I'm skeptical, I don't often buy into hype.

I think like you but I try not to be negative without at least trying something first, then I bitch and complain, if something is bad or good play it to find out, then say what you will, but to say it's bad without even a demo, I know you wouldn't much like it if I pissed on one of your favorite games.

This game seems promising but I will wait to try the game before I am screaming "It's the best" it looks worth a try never the less.

I've heard some decent reports for the multiplayer, still, it doesn't seem overly involved, though I'm glad to hear developers are trying to keep it from becoming a "shooter". Still, many reports detail people using cover and the blind shot, which worries me, because it has a possibility to drag out battles and take away from the pacing that may otherwise be present.

It's pretty much like MGS. 💡

Gears of War is nothing like MGS.

MGS is a Stealth game, where your intent is to never be seen, and to never kill. You can kill, but that's not your mission.

Gears of War is a 3rd Person shooter with cover. Gears of War would be closer to Kill Switch than it would be to Metal Gear Solid....I'll blame your misconception on the fact that you've probably never played a Metal Gear title before.

Snake in Metal Gear Solid 3 is the big boss coz the female big boss is death. 1 & 2 are clone of the big boss. 3 is the past where you see revolver young. THough there's no Cheryl in MGS2 where's Raiden is the main character that get a similar emulation of the MGS on the Playstation. The 3rd one some incredible story. the first one had incredible information about weaponry & history. The second one had the best frame rate & action.

Yeah I still think it's pretty much the same. In boss fight, you hide & attack. MGS 2 & 3 are pretty much like that.

Gears Of War takes influence from Resident Evil 5. Cliffy B. Hinted about wanting to create a similar game, but not completely similar, then not soon after Gears of war was anounced.

The preview in EGM certainly shed some light on the game that seemed a bit unexpected. Very violent, and that is a big plus in my book. I also like the idea of co-op and such, as it seems to work out quite well. I'm looking forward to the game, and given that we have less than a month to get around to it, I can't wait!

Personally I don't like voilence, I think it's childish but gameplay and storyline can change my mind, the game looks good and the story seems entertaining, those are the points that attracted me, not that it's "Uber violent", yes it is a game where lack of violence would seem rather odd, but most people buy games simply because they are violent, parents buy these games for their kids like it's a common thing, personally I don't think anyone under 18(18 being an age where people can distinctly distinguish the difference between right and wrong) should know this game exists, much like Halo, I don't like to hear from kids 5-10 years old that a game is awesome and violent. . . I don't say stop making games like this, but I say " Don't love a game simply because it's violent" Not to say that this is what you are implying YSSMAN.

Bottom line, the game looks great, I will mostlikely buy it, I wonder how many people will buy it simply because it's violent?

Probably not that many. While it's violent (as any game based in a war environment would be), it's not a "run and gun" shooter like your typical FPS. They describe it more as a "stop and pop" shooter, with more emphasis on taking cover and using various strategies and tactics as opposed to just running in guns-a-blazing (which will only get you killed). From what I've seen in the videos, your character is just as easily killed as the enemy characters. In most video games, you can take down a baddie in four or five shots, where your character can take dozens of shots before you need to start looking for a health pack. But I've seen our Mister Fenix go down in three or four hits in one of the videos.

People who are after the violence alone will probably find the game extremely difficult. Running up to every enemy just so you can use the chainsaw (which is spectacularly gory) will only get you killed, since they're pumping you full of lead every second you're not behind cover.

I do see what you're saying about violence in general, though. And I agree that I wouldn't let my kids play this game. If I had any kids.. hehe. In addition to the graphic nature of the game, it also doesn't hold anything back in the dialogue, either. I've heard "s**t" in no fewer than three separate videos. Then again, I heard "****" quite a bit in the Saint's Row demo. Definitely not a kid's game.

I've never given thought to people that might hunt down games like this soley because of their violent nature, though. Are there gamers out there that are really that shallow? And/or ****ed in the head?

Well, it was more of a general plus in that it is "something different" I suppose. I'm generally not a huge proponent of excessive violence in most videogames, but I can think of a few times where it has been "fun" such as Dead Rising, Resident Evil 5, and GTA:III. There are of course points in which things become excessive and stupid, and I think there are boundaries that are going to be crossed from time-to-time, but in the name of "fun" (as Cliffy B seems to point to) with Gears of War, I'm good.

To cross-reference a movie here, I'm not talking about Dead Alive's lawnmower scene as the "standard" for blood and guts here. Thats too much in my book, as strangely enough I am deathly afraid of blood and have a fear of slitting my own throat while shaving... But at a level of say Dawn of the Dead or maybe something like From Dusk 'Till Dawn, it is "reasonable" in the context of the title, or in this case a game; Survival Horror, FPS.

---

On the question of who will buy it because it is violent? Dunno. I suppose it was a poor choise of words for me (oops!), but I think there is some appeal to it all. Depends on your state of mental health I suppose, but I think most "stable" folks will be looking towards this game as a "hold-over" untill Halo 3...

As with most people violence should leave you feeling sick, I can watch any surgery while eating, but I get really sick when I see someone hurt or someone shot in real life(sadly I have seen this up close and personal) although I will admit when someone is doing something stupid and hurts themselves I can't help but laugh, I hate myself for laughing but it's just that they brought it apon themselves.

I've seen all the trailers for the game so far, E3 and such, it looks crazy good and fun, I just wanted to point out that it's not all about violence, so long as everyone who plays it understands that, and yes I do realise I will meet kids as young as 5 years old playing this game, what can you do? I bring that up because my good friends little brother has played many games that he shouldn't have, but hey that is his parents and I stay out of it, but I don't allow him to play my games when I lend them to my friend.

Hard to believe this comes out in only 3 weeks.
I am going to pre-order this tomorrow when Heather and I pick up our copies of Age of Emprires 3: The Warchiefs.

...I belive Guitar Hero II is out on the same day as well...

(There goes $110!!!)

I am so excited about this game that I changed my xbox gamerpic to GOW. :)
I think I might talk heather into getting this so we can play through the entire game together in the co-op mode. She usually doesnt like scary games like this but we will see.

The good news is that whatever you accoplish in co-op mode still counts for regular in-game accoplishments as well. That, atleast I think, is a good move on their behalf. It may be more fun to play with a friend, I don't know, but it was a good idea... We will see in the long-run. Other than that, the online modes might be fun as well, as Cliffy B seems to be pretty excited over them...

Has he ever spoken at any level less than orgasmic about this game?? I haven't seen it. That man loves this game, and very rightfully so, I must say. I'm very much looking forward to it. But DAMN, Clifford needs a break.
