I see used 680's go for around 200 Euros here, 4gb version ~300ish. I'm still saving money for it, almost there.. :D

I emailed Scan today to see if they knew anything about when they'd get the 680s in again, they said MSI haven't given them a date yet. I'm tempted to put my 680 up on Ebay now but I can't be bothered to take it out to get a photo of it... Then, if I sell it for over £200 I'll get a 780, if not then I just won't cancel my other 680. But like I said, can't be bothered.

Would you sli the 780?

I know this is about the 780 but I didn't think I should make another thread about the 770.

I've discovered EVGA has started selling refrence cooler'd GTX 770's which makes me ponder on upgrading .

If I *was* to upgrade though, it probably wouldn't be until next year by which time, the 800 series could possibly be rumored. I'm just happy that if I did want a 770, there's a refrence cooler model of it for sale now. :D

Isn't the 770 basically a re-badged 680?

But, yeah. I do wanna hear something about the 800-series, as well as the Volcano Islands stuff from AMD. The 700-series seems far more competitively priced than the 600-series was, back when it launched. Curious to find out how AMD is going to undercut NVIDIA this time around 👍 With consoles using AMD APUs and stuff, they might try to get some of that market share back from NVIDIA. Competition's always good for us customers, right? ;)

Just use a photo from Google and write something like "not a picture of the actual item, only for reference" or something like that. Besides, I'd cancel that order on the 680 just out of spite. Doesn't sound like good customer support, so flick'em the bird and get your stuff somewhere else? :D

The problem is it's not a very common card (it was at one point) so other places sell it for a £40 mark-up, and I can only just afford the upgrade as it is. In any case I've cancelled it now, both the order and the upgrade, real life reared its stupid doo-doo head so I needed the cash for something else. Kind of lucky they didn't have it in stock in the end!

Eh, real life FTL, but yeah, I can relate to that. Blowing 13k on education come next year sure as hell's gonna set me back as well... I'm still dreaming of that sweet, sweet high-end SLI setup, though :dopey:

I thought they're going to drop the price of the titans, but as of now they cost about 1,6 times as much. I already get 780s for about 450£/530€/700$ including tax.

For those who still buy titans ->

Btw, a MSI lightning is on the way for next month.

So guys... Experts on the 780. :p

Which edition of the 780 should I go for if I were to pick one to have in SLI?

I've been looking at both the:

MSI GeForce GTX 780 Gaming 3GB PhysX

and the:

ASUS GeForce GTX 780 3GB PhysX CUDA

Both at same price.

Any other suggestions? Money isn't the issue (well not the most important one).

Looking at the specs I don't see any advantages choosing the ASUS over the MSI one, but I know ASUS is great when it comes to cooling. Not sure about the MSI ones.

MSI ones have great coolers from what i've been told.

Generally speaking, all 780's are great for SLI. Also remember that SLI will scale to the "slower" video card (so if the MSI one has lower clock speeds compared to the ASUS one, the ASUS one will scale down to match the MSI one)

Or at least I think that's how it works.

Well the MSI got a Base Clock; 954 MHz and Boost Clock; 1006 MHz, while the ASUS one have Base Clock; 889 MHz and Boost Clock; 941 MHz.

That's the only differences I can tell from the specs page. Also the MSI have 250W while the ASUS is 300W but that doesn't matter to much for me.

The MSI card is also slightly smaller size.

Well at least some good news today... Thanks! :)👍
Or take this as reference: *click*

Btw, I don't think the asus card really comes with a 300W TDP...
Probably just a high number to take sure nobody uses undersized PSUs. As far as I know they can't go over 265W.

The GTX 770 uses the same GK104 chip that the 680 uses, and it is clocked higher. Think of it as the 7970 Ghz edition of the 680.

It won't be named HD 8000 series. The name is going to either "HD 9000 series", or a new naming convention for the desktop cards (as some sources say, but just rumors tho).

The 780 is now capable of being in a 4-way SLI configuration. A simple file swap of one of the driver files is needed.

If you have a 680, just get another one (if you are on a low budget + have a adequate power supply, I would). According to PC Perspective's 780 review (frame capturing used, no FRAPS), the 680 in 2-way SLI still looks great for gaming (I imagine greater results with 680s that have custom coolers.. overclocking). If you are using a 1080p or 1440p setup, two 680s in SLI should carry you another year. Not sure if it is great for multi monitor setups. Hell... Even take a risk and flash both card's BIOS to a 770 to reak the benefits of Boost 2.0.

We need a general GPU discussion thread. That way we can discuss GPUs on a broader scale.
