After watching E3 Sony have convinced me to get a ps4. Anyone have any suggestions for a new tv for me to get. Would like it to be around 42 inch and will use it for ps4 gaming and watching blu ray movies?

Then why are you posting this question in a thread which is about the GTX 780, not the PS4 or TVs?

Aren't Samsung better for gaming though?

I don't know. I have 3 LED 22inch Samsungs for my pc, Philips tv for consoles. I don't really see a lot of difference between my Philips and my dads Sony, but my mom has this Samsung LED tv, that's really a nice screen  My next tv will probably be a Samsung LED..

Guys, might need some help.....

I'm still saving money for the 780, but now I found someone who is selling two GTX 680 DCII OC's, €350 each. I'm thinking of bidding €650 for both... They are less than a year old, both stock, with warranty on them. My mobo should be strong enough to run SLI smoothly.. (Asus Z77 Sabertooth)

And if I don't, it's probably going to be the Evga 780 SC with or without the ACX cooler... Without the cooler it is €669,- and with it's €699.

Any thoughts? I want to do Project Cars and F1 2012 on 3 screens, with high as possible graphics, though limited to ~700 Euros.

Probably need a new power supply too, currently I have 520watts.

I've just ordered my second 680, but I can tell you Project CARS can run smoothly (with the right settings) at 60fps with one 680 at 5040x1050 (three 1680x1050s) and the Codemasters Ego engine runs no problem at that resolution even when maxed (I think, I'll check). The reason I bought another is because I want to upgrade to 1080p monitors sooner or later and a good few games I play, namely Arma 3 and DCS World, could do with more power at that resolution... But I bet neither of them even support SLI!

So you'll likely be fine with a single card. SLI introduces problems - like the fact you'll need a new PSU and not all games are compatible - and yeah, single card solutions are always preferable where they are adequate.

Thanks for your reply! Very helpful 👍

So it would be easier to just get a single card. I'm surprised the 680 can run on 3 screens with settings that high, now I'm confident the 780 will do that too. I thought maybe SLI would be better since it's easier to get high graphics out of 2 instead of 1, didn't think about games supporting SLI, and to be honest, I'm not a hero in tweaking stuff..

I'm also surprised Arma 3 doesn't support SLI, I don't play it but my friend does. That game is so detailed

I don't know if it does or not, but Arma II didn't and I don't think Nvidia have released an update to support it. It's up to them to patch their drivers with SLI profiles (I think) but a big release like Arma 3 should hopefully get support.

I'll post a screenshot or two of what Project CARS looks like at 60fps for me later on, it's really quite stunning. The only problem is if you choose to go with three 1080p monitors (or basically any higher res than 1680x1050) your mileage will vary. Then again a 780 is a big enough step up, I imagine it'll easily do the settings I run but at the larger resolution.

About those screenshots, here's one (click for full size):

And here's a link to some more from my Steam screenshots. I'm not 100% sure that link will work if you're not logged in to Steam but it should, I think.

You'll notice of course that the anti aliasing doesn't appear to work, unfortunately it's like that in a lot of games. I don't care all that much, personally, but Nvidia's built-in FXAA probably works, maybe.

Edit: Actually it just turns out that my AA setting is rather low, it will work if you turn it up. However I just tried the DS9X setting, and yeah, it looks amazing... But it ran somewhere between 0 and 1 frames per second! I'm uploading comparisons now, but this isn't really the place to discuss them I guess. You'll be able to see them using the link above.

You don't need to be logged in to view your pictures. Holy crap that aspect ratio!

I love it! Though the bezels are a bit of a drag. I'm holding off on upgrading to 1080ps in case the Oculus Rift is really good (and doesn't give me motion sickness), if I do get one of them I'll also get a single big, high resolution monitor (or maybe a medium sized high res one so I won't miss AA so much). If it does make me motion sicky I'll probably get 1080p replacement monitors for this and call it a day until, I don't know, the 980 comes out. I mean, it's incredible that just one card can make a game look that good and run it at that resolution at around 60fps (a lap at Eifelwald sees highs of 65 and lows of about 50), so I'd imagine the 780 is pretty bloody good too.

Fantastic stuff. One arrangement I've been considering is an LG 21:9 29EA93 monitor as my central display, flanked by a pair of matching height 16:9 displays. I think that could be pretty immersive. I'd get a more expansive front viewport in triple display mode, as well as a good single display gaming solution as well.

Unfortunately that won't work, with SLI you have to have the same resolution on all three monitors. I tried that with my 1920x1200 U2412M, it didn't like it!

Poop. I didn't realize they had to be so similar even in 2D surround. Triple 29EA93 monitors would be excessive and expensive.

It would, but believe it or not, SLI can support that. The maximum resolution per monitor for SLI is 2560x1600, which is, frankly, completely insane.

I assume when you say SLI you mean Nvidia surround? I'm just running a single 780.

Yeah, oops, that would be why it took so long to find out what Surround's maximum resolution is... I was searching for the wrong thing!

Holy crap neema  Really can't wait now. Just finished reading some reviews of the 780, this one is pretty nice: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/2206/1/

It compares the Evga 780 SC + ACX cooler with the stock 780, the Titan, Asus and MSI 770, 7970 Vapor-X, the 680 and the 580 in 1920x1080, 2560x1600 and 5760x1080. Man that Evga 780 SC really is a beast! Out performances the Titan in most cases

Offtopic:
I'm in the need for a new case too. Any ideas? I currently have the Sharkoon T28 but I sat on it and the frame cracked

So when will the oculus rift be released? Seeing how amazing project cars looks I can't wait to see how amazing pc gaming will be in a decade

Wow, outperforming a GTX Titan? Already? Dang, that's some serious performance right there. That also solves the question of whether a second 680 or a single 780 would be a bigger step forward with my rig. The 780 seems to take the cake.

I'm still inclined to see what AMD has up its sleeve, though. They'll have a hard time matching that, I suppose, but the 7970 was quite good, after all.

I looked at the 780, and... Well, to be honest, if Scan don't ship my 680 soon I may just cancel it, sell my current 680 and get one. I'd need to get at least £200 for my 680 though. Doable? I wonder if I'd be able to find a comparison between 2xSLI 680s and a 780 at 3x1080p. Seems a bit specific.

Yup, that's quite specific... However, two 680s are said to rival the GTX Titan, which is, in turn rivalled/slightly surpassed by the 780. Given that SLI comes with a few downsides itself, I'd assume that the 780 would be the way to go. That's just hearsay, though.

Don't know what sort of money you'd get for a used 680, though :indiff:
