Tranquility Base - Surrender 👍

It was the Tune of the Week last week during ASOT. 2004 seems to be a good year for trance, a lot of good tunes. The rush to remix old songs seems to have died down.

Has anyone heard anything from Air's new album Talkie Walkie? It's isn't really electronica per se but more of chillout. It's close enough. I really like it. 👍 You should check it out if you are into chillout music.
If you enjoyed "Talkie Walkie" you should check out Air's "Moon Safari" album, as it is widely considered to be their best effort. The "Premiers Symptomes" EP is also very good. I would avoid "10,000 Hz Legend" unless you are a big fan.

Yeah, it was the Future Favorite last week. Awesome tune.

Thanks. 👍 I *cough* had 10,000 Hz Legend but IMO sucked more than a Hoover. ;)

Since I like electronica, here is my list:

The Chemical Brothers
The Crystal Method
Fatboy Slim
The Prodigy
Roni Size
LTJ Bukem
Moby
Meat Beat Manifesto

I like Fatboy Slim the best because of his bizarre funky house and techno music :trouble:  👍

EDIT: For electronica variety listing, I like techno, hardcore techno, drum 'n' bass, trance, 2-step, and breakbeat techno :trouble:  💡

Here's my list. Probably not complete, but I'm just scrolling through my playlist and picking some out.

DJ Tiesto (yeah, he's why I watched the opening ceremonies too)
Daft Punk
Happy Hardcore
Armin Van Buuren
Paul Oakenfold
Paul Van Dyk
Robert Miles
The Cynic Project
DJ Dean
DJ Shadow
Ian Van Dahl
ATB
Mauro Picotto
...and the list goes on like that.

yeah, these are the more mainstream names... I honestly can't pick favourites, lots are awesome. I suppose my favourite song *at the moment* would be

ATB & George Acosta - Damaged

btw... what's ASOT?
:dunce:

Did anyone try to listen to the background of the Opening Ceremony?

I did :p I thought it was pretty good, although there were too many commercials during the program.

I'm going to go look for Tiesto's CDs and listen to them.

Oh, and I only have these CDs. I'm thinking about expanding it (duh):
PvD - Global
Ferry Corsten - Right of Way
ATB - Movin' Melodies
DJ Tiësto - In Search of Sunrise [Panama]

Buying soon: PvD - Out There and Back

I missed the opening ceremony although I wasn't trying to see it... I'd like to know what the music sounded like too though. 👍

Are those CDs or just tracks? Did Tiësto play those at the Opening Ceremony?

Just wondering why you posted that lol ...

Klonie Gun
Since I like electronica, here is my list:
Meat Beat Manifesto

All you really need. I've seen them 3 times in concert, they are just...amazing.

It's not for dancing, but for listening. (Although R.U.O.K. was a bit of a disapointment.)

Where is it??!! I must see it!

inconspicuous *BUMP*
Wow, havent been here in a while. just recently moved n had to pack the comp :indiff:. 'introduction' song: Tiësto - Lethal Industry (of 'bubbling beats' cd2). they played it at the olympics this year upon Italy's entrance into the stadium, during the opening ceremony :sly:.

some of my fav:
Vertigo - Outrun (voxless)
CJ Bolland - The Prophet (original)
Irene - Annihilating Rhythm
Drunkenmunky - E
Laut Sprecher - Omnibus (much like darude's sandstorm)
Warp Brothers - Power
Master Fin - Prog Mix
Tiësto - Traffic
Pulsedriver - Cambodia
Sash - Adelante
Fast - Transmission (public domain mix)
Utah Saints - Lost Vagueness (lieb mix)
Mario Piu - Sensation
Jimmy Goldschmitz vs. Pete Lutz - Horizon
System F - Solstice
Vanessa Mae - White Bird (cosmic gate remix)
Tomcraft - Loneliness
Marco V - Godd
Marco V - c:\del*mp3
Tenth Planet - Ghosts (remix)

Much of that probably sounds mainstream to you, but its been a while since ive gotten some really good music.

I like Ghosts from Tenth Planet. The rhythm and lyrics are a great combination.

So far on Searching for Sunrise 3: Panama, I'm replaying:

In My Memory
Faith (Loafer Mix)
Hear You Now (Grand Chillas Mix)
Stringz Ulto! (Shelley Mix)
Southern Sun (DJ Tiësto Mix)

:)

I've never really gotten into electronica, however, I love Moby. Does his stuff count as electronica? Are there any other artists out there with a similar style/sound?

Tabs: you might want to check out artists like Zero 7, Orbital, etc.

Paul Oakenfold to do tracks for Goldeneye sequel

World reknowned DJ Paul Oakenfold has signed on to contributing his musical talents to Electronic Artists' highly anticipated new James Bond game, GoldenEye: Rogue Agent.

In his role as music supervisor, Oakenfold will compose an original score and create the game's overarching musical personality with hard-driving, rhythmic beats hand-crafted for every mission.

OMFG I DIE!!!!!!!! :D

Here are my favorite tunes right now:

Austin Leeds vs Matthew Dekay - Taurus (Markus Schulz vs Austin Leeds Remix)

Ba da da ba da! da da... ba da! da da...ba da!

Pulser - Square One

Adam White - Ballerina

I still need to get my hands on Creamfields from Oakenfold. I heard the second CD on one of my digital cable music channels. It sounds very good. I also need to get Perfect Remixes Vol. 2 from Paul van Dyk and All or Nothing from Christopher Lawrence (best American DJ, IMO).

Remember to listen to ASOT every week. Armin van Buuren always has the newest tunes.

Nice list...I'll have to check them out soon.

Has anyone heard Dieselboy's new cd, Dungeonmasters Guide? Great stuff if you like DnB. 👍

Viper Zero, I don't know about Christopher Lawrence being the best American DJ. I think it's either Dieselboy or BT. :D ;)

Oh no! Christopher Lawrence is definitely the best American DJ! If you like underground trance, get a Lawrence CD.

ASOT 165 was great this week, as always. Here are my favorite tunes from this week:

Reflekt featuring Delline Bass - Need To Be Loved (Thrillseekers Remix)

Fractal Structure - Lost Sequence (Original Mix)

Dido - Sand In My Shoes (Above & Beyond UV Remix)

Estuera - Tales From The South

I just got the Lost and Found CD from Ian van Dahl, Turn it Around from 4 Strings, Free Fall from Nu-NRG, and Dream Dance Vol. 32. I like the Dream Dance CD the most. It reminds me of the old school rave music of the 90's. I wish that they would remove the vocals from the songs on Lost and Found and Turn it Around CDs. They have amazing beats and melodies, but the lyrics just turn them into cheese, especially Ian van Dahl's CD. There is a nice surprise on Nu-NRG's CD. The very last song is Dreamland, a classic tune that has held up for years. If you want to see a 19 year old teenager squeal for joy, this is how you do it. :)

New Tiësto album: Parade Of The Athletes

DJ Tiesto will be releasing his Athens Olympic opening ceremony mix on CD on October 18th.

1. Heroes
2. Breda 8pm (DJ Montana Edit)
3. Ancient History
4. Traffic
5. Euphoria
6. Athena
7. Olympic Flame
8. Lethal Industry
9. Coming Home
10. Adagio For Strings
11. Victorious
12. Forever Today

http://trance.nu/v3/news_show.php?id=2745

It doesn't have all of the songs that were played during opening ceremony, but it has all of the songs that were created just for the ceremony.

BTW...Here is some tips :
1. Antiloop - In my mind
2. Antiloop - Start Rockin'
3. Darude - Feel the beat
4. Darude - Ecstasy
5. Darude - Out of control
6. Darude - Next to you
7. Prodigy - Firestarter
8. Ferry Corsten - Punk

;)

Anyone care to recommend a few discs for a casual listener?

I was given a couple of Groove Armada discs as a gift... Lovebox and Vertigo and I liked them okay. I also have a copy of Juno Reactor's Shango and The Crystal Method's Vegas from some years ago, which I enjoyed as well. My sure there is more good stuff out there in this catagory, but with so many choices, its bewildering to a casual listener.

My tastes run a bit to the mellow side. Mostly these days I listen to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Nora Jones and Diana Krawl so I'm not exactly looking to start a rave collection. High energy stuff is enjoyable occasionally, but mostly I just want to relax at my desk or in the car. You know, simple, cool, atmospheric background stuff. Oh, I deeply dislike depressing, angry, weird or nonsensical / experimentation music. Want to turn me on to some new music?

Well if you like stuff to chill out to at work, check out www.somafm.com
Best chillout stuff on the net. 👍 They have some awesome streams.

More mellow stuff? Try out Dub Pistols. They are good. I'm not too up to date on the mellow/ambient stuff. Although, I did have a great cd by Minisotry of Sound called "The Late Night Sessions." The best chillout music I've ever heard.
Here is a link to the cd on amazon.com

and

I recommend buying used if any of those songs spark your interest.

Moby has some good mellow/ambient stuff too.
