We see a lot of windmill generators in the rural central plains: Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and up through there. (The old windmills you see in westerns were for water well pumps.) Much faster ROI than your solar panel reference, and in wide flat plains, the wind is pretty much always blowing.

Power companies will have huge windmill farms, too. There's one along I-10 in west Texas that takes about 20 minutes to drive past.

We used to have a windmill, but the generator housing kept breaking. Plus it provided so incredibly little power compared to our solar panels (BTW, it’s very windy there, so the problem wasn’t not enough wind).

Darn it, isn't there a way to make them simple and robust? I'd like to experiment at home with a DIY set-up... or will I need special low-friction bearings and lightweight parts to make this work?

As for 5kw... how big a panel array are we talking about? How many square meters? 25k UKP just sounds like a tremendous amount to spend on panels... hell... I could build a decent sized house in this country for about that much.

Free energy is just, so... so... expensive.

Sometimes they share a driveshaft, in which case, one would run backwards (relative to its propellor) and one would run forwards.

However, more often they do not share a driveshaft, in which case they both run in the 'normal' direction and the rotational torque from the pusher engine cancels the torque of the tractor engine.

I thought that the whole philosophy behind the pusher-puller set-up was so that the rotational torque of one would cancel out the other? Something about overcoming the deficiencies of prop aircraft at high speeds? There were actually push-pull setups using just one driveshaft?

it's just that 90% of the questions asked here are easily researchable and the results given in both those websites I linked to are usually better sourced and more precise than anything any of ous could say on the subject.

I'm not the first one to say this either.

Usually... but not always. There's still some junk on some of the pages I regularly visit. Some of the Mazda page information, for example, is just completely inaccurate.

And there's some stuff that's impossible to find definitively online, without a deep-search that'll take days.

For example, from general experience, what's the proper launch rpm for an NC Mazda Miata MX-5 on street tires? Edmunds states 4200 rpm, but I tried for hours to find verification from owners, and nobody has proper launch information for the drag strip. The closest I've gotten is autocrossers, but their 60 foot times are generally untimed.

For some of this stuff? I still have to rely on the telephone and a good friend who's willing to chat. :D

Besides... this thread is fun. If you don't feel like answering a question, you don't have to.

They say that a redhead only comes every 3-4 generations, but this question actually has me thinking. A girl with red hair once told me that everybody thinks she is the sister of others with her hair colour, despite the generational gap.

I really should've paid more attention to that Mythbusters episode but, what's better in terms of saving gas?

Windows down and A/C off?
Windows up and A/C on?

Problem is I'd rather do windows down and A/C off because I need all 90hp on board...
3) driving 25 feet behind a lorry

Really. :p

I agree.

Is it possible to have twins, either identical or fraternal, that both have red hair?

Certainly.

Also, I have a friend, two of whose kids have her red hair, the third has darker hair like her husband. There's no reason to expect a generational skip.

Male pattern baldness, OTOH, has a definite skip of generations in my family. I am of the shiny-headed persuasion, as was my dad's father. My dad still has thick hair and his grandfather had no loss of hair.

My headphones are wireless, big hefty things. You can use rechargeable or normal AA batteries. What would happen if I tried to re-charge the non-rechargeable ones?

I believe that doesn't work but I use to put non-rechargeable ones in the Freezer to recharge.
Yahoo Questions
No, you cannot. Rechargeable batteries have two cell types and are designed so that they are able to recharge. Alkaline batteries (like most) are not intended to be recharged and will not recharge if put in a recharger. NiCd, NiMH, Li-ion, and Li-polymer batteries will work when recharge

I knew they wouldn't re-charge, but would trying to re-charge them, damage the battery? Or could I re-use it still?

Maybe if I knew what you were talking about I could answer the question.

Or better yet just open up the phone book.

Well I just need to ask a question regarding my headphone/earphones. What makes headphones/earphones very prone to getting broken? Especially the wires and the solder parts, they seem to break easily even if they are supposed to be called "quality products". I have a Sennheiser HD 497 which I used for 2 years, and one day when I used it, the left side lost sound. After getting frustrated, I cut the part open to find that the wire snapped from the solder part in the headphone jack. Recently, my Griffin Tunebuds had the same problem, the left earpiece started to lose sound, and turns out the wire was giving me problems. (at the end of the jack, the wire was bent out of shape cause of the way I keep the wires :guilty:) But the thing is, it was a straight jack, so it was kinda hard to just roll the wires around like that (and now I'm suffering from it :()

So anyhow, what do I need to do to fix both the problem. I know the Sennheiser is beyond repair and may need to replace the wires, but the Tunebuds are precious to me!!!! I only used it for a couple of months (and I really love it) and was wondering if I could just cut the part at the end of the straight jack and replace it with a side jack instead. What do I need to be sure of before I cut the wire like a dumbass.....?. :dunce:

Certainly.

Neither my father or mother have red hair, yet, my brother and two sisters have all red hair. But I still have dark blond hair :p

I'm addopted in secret I guess :p

On that, are there places on the internet around...you know...errr...personal stuff... I've got some things I'm wondering about since I've gotten quite far in my relationship with my current girlfriend so...errr... yeah...errr...?

I agree.

Yes of course it is. The word "identical" is something of a giveaway.

My previous girlfriend was one of four siblings who all had red hair.

I think they could explode. Isn't there a warning on the charger?

No problem 👍 The only funny thing is how you're looking on an English language site for it! I can't imagine how wrong it would go if I was looking for such advice in Spanish or even French!

No. It would quite likely overheat and blow up. Don't try it.

It's not even quite likely, it's more like they will if you leave them on there for any length of time. There was an idiot in my physics class when I was in high school that tried in in the lab with pretty bad results. The battery did explode and melted the charger and caused an electrical fire.

It is very dangerous to do and while not all battery will explode the same way, there will be some sort of damage to either yourself or surrounding things. Duke is quite right when he advises not to try it.

Here is a photo as an example:

Because GTP is best at this kind of stuff, members that actually give you a straight answer without any bulls***. My girlfriend would say: "What the hell are you on to about..." and my friends would laugh at me, there's where GTP comes in :)
