I've always heard Absent instead of Away, but that could be a British/American thing.

Members living in the u.s.:
It was my understanding that acronyms don't have to be read as a single word, but as long as they stand for a series of words they count as acronyms.
MG stands for Morris Garage so I think it would be an acronym.

Members living in the UK:
MG and RX-7 are not acronyms.

An acronym is any abbreviation or concatenation which can be read as a single word.
It isn't. Read what Famine said again.

Hmm...

I get your point, but FBI and the like are abbreviations, not acronyms. I think I've usually called them acronyms though.

But...the way I know it, an abbreviation is a shortened version of a single word, not the first letters of a set of words (eg. Gov't is an abbreviation for Government).

Maybe we've stumbled upon some overlooked regional language difference.

Govt is a concatenation.

Govt is a concatenation.

......That's a new one in my book, lets find out just what the heck that means shall we...

Well I'm still confused after visiting Dictionary.com. It gave me the Definition of concatenating. So I looked that up.

To connect or link in a series...
To arrange into a chained list...
To link together...

Could you please elaborate on the meaning of this word?

It's a contraction of a word whereby you miss out intermediate letters, but retain some either side. Anything you should probably plonk an apostrophe, but don't.

Does that mean that "abbrev." is an abbreviation of abbreviation but "abbrevs" would a concatenation of abbreviations?

 That was actually a serious question! (The point being that I didn't realise that 'abbrevs' is apparently not an abbreviation, but 'abbrev.' is... I think...)

Yes, all aircraft must attain 20,000km/h to escape the pull of earth and enter orbit. Any slower and you will be pulled back into the atmosphere (aka ballistic trajectory).
I actually tried to design a couple space capable aircraft and it is very hard to get something realistic that can enter orbit. Well, something other than a conventional rocket anyway :p

I've heard that it cannot fly with speeds up too high above 20,000, otherwise it'll fall apart. Forgot what they called it though...Heard about it when watching what happened to the Challenger shuttle...

Not to interrupt that beautiful conversation about abreviations and so on but I have a question.

How can I put a .wmv-file on GTP?

If you want to host a .wmv through the vB forums, these are the steps you must take:

1) PM Jordan, ask him to add the .wmv format to the supported formats list
2) go advanced > attach files

Although I'm not sure it's possible.

This concludes my half-assed answer.

In the likely event that doesn't happen...

Upload the file to yousendit.com. Paste the link here.

How much wood does a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?!

As much as a woodchuck would chuck wood, if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

If a car was in a serious car crash, and all it's airbags were set off, would it be lighter? (assume no bits fell off)

Nope.

No because of the blood and intestants.

And bits of brain. (Obviously.)

No, the full sets of airbags they have now (I believe 456 airbags is the new standard) would completely prevent any sort of injury whatsoever.

All that would happen is that you'd spill the boiling-hot coffee on your crotch.

In fact, I have had an airbag explode into my face, and it hurt like a motherflipper!

Geez, do you drive with your seat pushed all the way to the front (stomach on the steering wheel and knees scraping the dash)?

My driving position in a car is very similar to how I've been taught, you know, driving 60MP/H karts and open wheel Formula Koenig cars.

Do you drive with your seat pushed and leaned back, legs stretched, body weight to the center, arms stretched with your hand loosely on the top center of your steering wheel?
