If Montoya doesn't make any mistakes and drives sensibly in the race, he still has a chance to finish on the podium. It can be done, with Mclaren's pace and proper stratergy.

He might also get a new engine. He has no grid position to lose. He is already starting on the last row.

Why doesn't Montoya help Kimi for once? If he didn't make his stupid mistake he would have had 2nd position. He could then hold Alonso up in the race so Kimi can get away and making Alonso score less points and help McLaren get 1st place in the constructors. All he cares about is his own glory.

That's what I've been wondering. I think Montoya is the worst possible teammate for Kimi because he's so damn competitive and won't give Kimi even the smallest bit of help. He once said in an interview about his "duty" to help Kimi and he said that Kimi being second in the scores is Kimi's problem, not his.

What a team-player!

Its going to be like Kimi cutting through the grid but with Montoya. That will hopefully be exiting because his overtaking Manuvours are very daring and slightly reckless.
What happened today was a bit of a shame because the win at Silverstone really boosted Montoya's confidence, if he did well today that confidence probally would of carried on for most of the rest of the season.

I hope Coulthard and Sato do well.
It would be nice to see Sato with some points...

as much as i love montoya, i dont think he's going to pull of what kimi had done. hes got Sato-itice, he likes to push passes at incredibely bad times. the man has AMAZING car control, but pushes it so hard, you never know how its going to turn out. either way a shame he lost the rear end.

renault obviously looks to be the "winner" this week. with montoya having to come through the field and them essentially having 2 cars on the podium from the start as we all know button is running extremely light.

between montoya having to fight through the field and kimi and alonso both starting up front, hopefully its an entertaining race.

I suspect Kimi will walk it, Fisi will stuff up (or have his car die). And Alonso will get 2nd. I'm not sure whether Button will get jumped on the start, I hope not, if Button can hol up a good chunk of the field it helps Montoya.

Ithink Button can do what Schumy does at Ferrari, get more out of the car than statistics prove possible, i wouldnt write him off for a top 6 finish.. maybe even podium. Yeah i agree that Kimi will just trot off into the distance and never to be seen again.. (as long as he has a friendly rear wing this year) Thing im most intrested in though is Barrichello and Montoya getting through the field, i foresee a collision in the mid pack (JPM's ruthless style will get him no where if hes in a tight situation). If he dont trip over anyone then he should make the points, just.

What happened to Rubinho in qualifying? I didn't see any of it, so I don't really know what is going on right now. I don't know what to expect from this weekend's race.

Is there really a chance for Montoya to crawl forward from the back? The only reason Kimi was able to do it was because he:
1.) Started mid-pack rather than dead last.
2.) McLaren knew ahead of time he'd be back 10 slots so they filled him up with fuel.

Montoya had an accident... so it's doubtful he has more fuel than the rest of the field.

Well it's possible that Montoya start from the pit with full fuel load.
Plus a safety car can turn the whole race upside down. Remember Canada where Rubens started dead last but finished on podium. Ironically that incident cost Montoya the race so maybe he gets a favour in this race.

No, if they refuel the car it has to be from pitlane once the race starts.

Oh great. Just great. McLaren has a serious reliability issue, it's costing them both the manufacturers championship and the driver's championship. 36 point difference is too much.

Kimi would have absolutely walked this race if only his car hadn't broken down. Alonso got this win for free basically, he never saw another car after Kimi retired. Well good for Alonso I guess.

Props for Montoya and Button. Montoya did amazing job. And it's nice to see Button on the podium again.

Oh god,why always Kimi.

I'm telling you. Next time Kimi has pole he should just demand a new engine. Sure he'll start 10th but look at what Montoya does, all the way from the back to 2nd place. Alonso is now pretty much done. All he has to do is finish in the top 5 and he's golden.

Reason for Kimi's retirement appears to be the hydraulics.

Monteiro did an overly stupid move blocking Villeneuve and causing 'em crash. He was in the inside and Villeneuve was passing him in the outside. Then suddenly when braking Monteiro veered infront of Villeneuve. That's really inprofessional. Monteiro could get some serious punishment for this.

He's a NUB I say :D

Well he really IS a noob.

All I can say is it is time for Kimi to get a REAL car. Sure the McLaren chassis is the bee's knee's right now but (as always) the Mercedes engine is utter TRASH. Kimi needs a car that can finish races. Mercedes has had 10+ years to figure it out and they haven't.

I watch the 1995 Hungarian GP last weekend on Speed. Surprise Surprise...Mika's mecedes engine blew up...what a shock.

If Kimi had a real engine in his car (not German trash) he would be winning his 2nd title this season. He would have won 2003 with a better engine (and chassis I know) and this seaosn would have been a no brainer.

Give me a break Mercedes/Ilmor need to figure it out or leave F1. I'd love to see a McLaren/BMW combo...mmmm - or Kimi in red overalls.

Congratulations to Alonso on winning the title this year. he deserved it. He drove like a champ. Smart. Agressive when he needed to be and fast all around. He really matured this season. Also congratulations to Renault on winning the constructors. Again they deserved it by being able to build a car AND engine that can finish races and finish them fast.

Both titles are locked down right now...way to go Renault/Alonso.

Nice drive JPM.

Toyota...you guys need to develop the car....

Funny you should say German engines are trash when you have a RUF avatar... :dunce:

is it just me or did speed not broadcast the race? I missed it again. :(

is there anyway to download or torrent race footage?

oh yeah, porsche =/= mercedes. (let alone the porsche:ruf differences)

I'd have one advice for Mercedes: They should make a diesel-powered motor to Formulas, since Mercedes makes the best diesel motors on earth. Something like the new 400cdi would do the trick :D:D:D. It would at least last the whole weekend.:sly:

DURRRRRRR! it's on CBS right now. no wonder I missed it.

Anyway, did they get rid of derek daly? THANK YOU GOD!!!!!! I really like this new guy.

edit: montiero cuts off jacques? is that different from the doornbos thing?

Yeesh... dont think you will be seeing Kimi in a Merc showroom anytime soon... nice drive by Button as well (underpowered car but held on in there) and JPM drove nicely aswell to stay out of trouble in the first lap, JV was in the was abit and Ferrari need to take a look at their rear tyres... So now Kimi is 36 points behind.... Good luck!

I didn't say German engine's are trash. Porsche and BMW make the two finest cars/engines you can buy. Ruf tunes and makes even better ones. Audi is amazing. VW works.

I infered Mercedes-Benz engines are trash by saying "German". ia ssumed one would make the connectionf romt he sentence before and the overall message of the post. Yes I know Ilmor actually makes them for McLaren but it says Mercedes-Benz on the side of the car, not Ilmor....so I blame Merc.
