Personally I'll bump draft people for the first few laps to help close any such gap, but once I cross the line at the start of the last lap its every man for themself.

I think it should be every man for himself from start to finish. In my opinion it's the fair way to race.

Forgive me for going a bit offtopic here but they use normal bikini bottoms or tight shorts. ;)

I prefer the womens gymnastics. Gives me some good ideas for different positions with the mrs ;)

If at Daytona, I'd bump and i don't mind teaming up to catch the race leader, to me that's racing at Daytona

i admit that i Bump Draft on HSR if we are away from the back or close to a punter, as soon as we are catching the pack or have gained enough distance from the punter, the bump drafting normally stops.

I personally hate it when people try to do that, especially on the corners, because it ruins the stability of the car and usually ends up with me understeering off into the barrier.
Plus, I have much more enjoyment overtaking then drafting then overtaking and drafting....seeing as thats the only actual racing you can have at Daytona. Bumping into the rear sort of means its just a very boring follow the leader race.

Like others have said, I would rather race against whoever is level with me rather than being bumped to a win. Im online to race with other people, not to win.

I have tuned a Ferrari F430 that screams away and leaves the rest behind on Daytona Speedway, and it's annoying to watch bump drafters in my rear view catching me because they haven't taken the time to tune their cars to catch me naturally without bump drafting. I'm no top flight GT tuner, so if I can tune cars to a decent level, then why can't the bump drafters.

Doesn't dropping your pp to say 597 to start at the front defeat the purpose then?

Heh, yeah a little bit, but thats not my fault that the PP cant be maxed further than that for that particular car and setup. :sly:
Even starting first, I can still race with people, in fact I usually end up racing several people a lot for the full 5 laps because there are others who have dropped their PP and are skilled with their cars. Its actually better for good racing because Im usually ahead of most of the punters.
But resorting to bumping rather than going side by side around the track is a fair bit duller than starting ahead of idiots.

If I could have maxed the PP on the car, I would have. I do with other cars.

Ah i stand corrected, my opinion of you as now increased, i was under the impression you dropped it on purpose, one thing more than the usual punters that gets my goat up is the people who drop and drop even more the pp to get a start at the front of the grid, having the car at 600pp at daytona and starting last can mean your passing the start line some 13+ seconds behind the lead car, i've dropped mine on purpose at times just so i can get a sniff of the action at the front of the pack

Dropping the PP does you a favour because as Ardius says, it puts you ahead of the punters. I find that dropping the weight of the car right down is better than more power. Dropping 10 to 15 HP doesn't make any significant difference to overall speed.

i tested a car for Lars and the gearing i felt was made for drafting, i drove in 5th gear and in a draft i could shift into 6th and push the car even more, if there's too big a gap between cars, then bump drafting is ok IMO, otherwise am i to make do and poodle along?

Yeah, the XK and S3 tyres with max power and min weight comes to exactly 597PP, although I dont always enjoy starting at the front, its balanced by the fact the Jag isnt a dominating car against certain others.
I have nothing against those that drop the PP value 1 or 2 for a better position, it only really affects rolling starts.

At Suzuka it was fine, because those that drop the PP to make up for lack of skill usually spun off at turn 1 anyway.

Myself i prefer the 600, i prefer the chase, and sometimes, not often i would come across a 12 grid race with.......racers

I myself use a Lotus 111R/tuned or a Honda NSX-R, they hold their own very, very well. I am sure that your Ferrari can hold it's own as well , so can other peoples cars I've seen in a Daytona race , but lets look at something ,and this is for anybody who has been on Daytona oval 600pp. Look at the variety of cars running this event , everything from Cappucino's , Mini's , Citroens , any other low-end cars going up against the horsepower beasts , they don't really stand a snowballs chance in hell of winning by themselves unless they draft. They are out there having fun in their econo-racers , while others are ripping the track up with their high power machines. What do you expect from them , they need help, they need the bump draft. I have seen it done there,it's amusing to see a Citroen in the top 5 in a 12 person race.

Getting to the main topic on this thread , I have been pushed across the line for a victory , I have been on the recieving end of two drafters working together and lost a race. Big whoopty doo,I did not get mad, I understand thats part of racing, you win some, you loose some it's not like we are getting paid to do this. We are having fun doing this win or lose , who really cares ?

I usually close up the 5th and 6th gears to almost max and adjust the final accordingly. I find that you get more torque to power ratio in those gears that way.

I think that starting on the front grids on Suzuka was great for avoiding the usual first turn pile ups.
