I got a G29 on the 2nd of January and straight off the bat I thought it was rubbish, however after a so far short transition my times have started to drop, this does not change my mind about a few things though, there is a small delay between turning the wheel and the game wheel turning and the biggest grump to date is the feed back.....AAARRRGGGHHH it is like having a bag of bolts loose inside the wheel and effects the feel of the car as if it has solid rubber tyres, so far i prefer the D-Pad although maybe i just need more time to adjust. Anyway grump aside i did an interesting lap on the Nurburg and thought i would share it with you, it is a 6.09 with the G29 but when i see how many mistakes were made it might suggest that the wheel might be quicker than the D-Pad although I am not there yet, anyway see what you think.

Not sure if this is the right category for this but anyway.

Why are you using Racing Super Softs?

Not trying to bash on you, but come back with Racing Hards. ;)

But keep using the wheel. You will improve alot over a DS4 controller. 👍

No it's not BOP it is tuned but needs a much better tune to control the back end.
Why do i need to use hard tyres.....are the other ones illegal in gt world ?, I'm sorry but this is a game i enjoy playing for fun as of this moment in time i don't take it too serious......... but just what is a good time on hard tyres ?

You don't need to use hard tires. By all means use whatever you like.

But for comparing times, people use Racing Hards.

And maybe most importantly, if you want to learn and be better at Gran Turismo, using Super Softs is gonna make your life alot harder when forced to use harder rubber mixes.

So it was just a suggestion as to how to improve in Gran Turismo.

You said so yourself. You want too be better and improve. ;)

What times are good on Nurb with the Porsche with RH tires? No idea. You might have to research a bit as I am sure there are some info about it somewhere on the internet.

I've used a wheel for years so it's second nature to me, and I drive for a living (not that I'm a racing driver).

Best advice I can give is start with slower cars on easy tracks layouts, then use faster cars, then change tracks.

I completely agree with using racing hards as well. But they're probably a bit too grippy for the slower cars, maybe try sport softs.

I have no idea if a non bop tuned lap is good or not.
It's not good to be using TCS with a wheel though, unless you are just wanting to go as crazy as you can and see if the computer AIDS can keep you on the track.

I wouldn't get stuck with relying on a tune either, if you are wanting to perform the same in sports mode.

Edit : with BOP on and the stock RSR on nurburgring 12mile, the RSS tires are around 9 seconds quicker than the RH tires for me.

I'm guessing your talking gr4 for today.
Are the faster people using the same AIDS/non AIDS as you? I'm assuming your comparing yourself against the same car.

Getting on slight throttle gently but early, getting wheels straight ASAP at the same time as increasing throttle.
I think that's what I do off the top of my head.

I've had my G29 for a couple months and I love it but I struggle badly at very low speed corners, like the hairpin at Suzuka. It's not that I spin, it just seems everybody else is faster than me.

Can anybody offer any tips?
Try coasting more thru the corner, or trail braking. Wait until your pointed in the right direction before slamming the gas

I usually race GT3. Any advice on the steering input? I don't really have a good feel for how much I should turn the wheel so basically I'm playing a guessing game when a hairpin comes up lol

I've been watching Z28's track guides on youtube, the way he talks through his laps is excellent. Had my 6th outing on my G29 last night on Suzuka after watching his guide, and something just clicked, was able to get a smooth lap and become far more consistent and ended up with a 2:12.8, easily my best time with a wheel so far.

Started using mine this Sunday.
Immediate impressions (facts on the case):
With DS4 I was unable to gold the Northern Isle Festival missions on Stage 5 and Stage 6, golded with G29 at 2nd, 3rd try.
Some other missions where I was having a hard time, like Tokyo Expressway Time Rallies were golded at first try.

Then took the dust on the old PS3 and GT6, whom I didn't play for 2 years.
Golded the S License tests in no time (had 4 bronzes and 1 silver with DS3) and got the 1st place on the Nascar Daytona race.

So, no doubts to me, G29 is faster an rather more enjoyable than DS3 or DS4.

PS: I used the motion control thing on the DS4.

Ok...... taken the advice.

Don't use racing softs......check
Don't use TCS...................check

Use Racing Hard.............check

Had a crack on Nurburg with hard tyres and no TCS and did 6.21, as i have no reference to go by i am assuming under a 6.19 is a good time, and as i have made a few errors along the way this might be where i should be aiming, i still think the forced feedback is like having a loose bag of bolts in the wheel, although i am starting to see the benefit of the wheel especially when using no TCS and i am finding that using a wheel makes for a more immersive experience and makes me want to stay on the game longer.

I'm glad to have found someone that uses 991 on nurburgring to compare against.
How do you do with BOP switched on stock everything? I'm around 6:38 on RH tires, but i need more practice on RH tires.

That's the noon setting, with shortcut and wall penalties on strong.

I'm trying to get used to using a new G29 too

I'm about 2secs faster a lap on shorter circuits using pad though, I need to try it on the ring back to back with controller

Yeh multiple runs are required to compare devices, just using the same device and same car I will keep passing and being passed by my ghost, i need to spend more time in time trial really, but I'm keen to increase my level till I reach 40.
I've left decal space for the 40 badge on my car, and it looks 'empty' at the minute.

Maybe i am missing something.... how do you set penalties in time trial?

Ok this time round i did the following, 6.20 RH,no TCS.........BOP-RH, no TCS 6.41, it would be nice to think my times might fall with better tunes and far more time on the wheel, a BOP on RH and no TCS 6.38 sounds like a great time JacksHerer.

Is there anywhere on this site where times with videos can be posted in one place?

On another note after going online and setting up a room with RH tires and no TCS ALL other aids off except abs I find nearly everyone who enters leaves instantly and those who come in last a couple of laps then leave, so it seams to me that the majority of people that enter don't want these settings online, this has nothing to do with how good or bad I am as nobody stays long enough to find out, after all my fastest online time with these settings was 6.22 although my times at the moment are very inconsistent as I keep crashing, because i am pushing harder than my ability with the wheel will allow at the moment at least.

My journey with the G29 continues :-)

I've been using a wheel for years, so 3 seconds over nurburg is nothing really, I would say you are pretty used to your wheel and just a few braver corners would get you in the 6:38.
You can set penalties under the room setting in top left corner within the selected track in time trial.

Yep I've been struggling to find any lobbies recently, it all seems to be dragons trail or maggiore with a decent looking connection. Any bathust lobbies I see have been practicing for the Alonso mclaren 650 thing.

There is a whole forum section for wrs which I gather is a time trial competition, but its with random cars and tracks.

If you start a thread for Nurburgring BOP and set out the room conditions, I'm sure the mods will move it to the correct place.
I kept the ghost lap replay but I'll have to run it again to save a replay to share on psn or work out how to get onto the internet. I keep hearing people mention sharefactory but I've not installed or looked at it yet.

sweet, I'll save a race against my ghost later.

EDIT: well I dont fancy todays sport races, so I just ran a lap with the share button. I'm waiting for it to save to USB now which is taking ages.
I'll create a new thread to upload it when its done.

Edit : OMG I thought it was taking ages getting onto usb, took longer getting onto youtube.. Anyhow here is the thread I made

Check the forum for wheel setting suggestions for a G29. That may help with what you feel as delays. Several years ago when I bought a G27 the learning curve was about 2-3 weeks before things began to fall in place. It took some setting tweets and TIME for the real advantages and fun of a wheel to happen. Stick with it. It is more than worth the time and effort. When I bought a PS4 the G29 was not yet on the market. I sold the G27 and bought a Thrustmaster T300. Once you get use to a wheel you will never go back to a pad for racing games.

Well thought i would give an update on my G29 journey, so far running the 911 with RSS-TCS and ABS I am down to 6.08.5 on Nurburg and still a few seconds to come off, been just under two seconds up and crashed out so with a little luck better to come, so i am enjoying using the wheel but the forced feedback still feels like a bag of bolts knocking around inside the wheel however as far as i am concerned it is way better than a controller.

Yeah, your G29s are good and everything, but can you do this?

By the way, the deadzone really bugs me. Like, a lot. There is also a slight squeak coming from the wheelbase while turning left, probably due to poor FFB left engine lubrication, according to the Great Realm of the Internets.

I also had to mod the brake pedal because the little rubber in it was garbage. Now it requires twice the strength to press it and it feels more like I'm in control of the car, but it requires you to re-learn to brake from scratch.
