...Well, it's got ScaJo in the buff (almost) and she lesbo-kisses, so yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic. :P

Still skeptical and a bit afraid, lol.

Meh, the original's always there if you need it.

Assume it'll suck, be happy if it doesn't. Nothing to be afraid about. And as far as adaptations go, this one at least doesn't look terrible like, say, Dragonball Evolution.

I'm kind of in two minds about a white actress portraying Motoko. If you were to show a picture of her to someone who had no idea about her, I guess it'd be hard to determine her ethnicity. It's a shame Hollywood are unwilling to take the risk to cast an Asian actress as Motoko, though.

Interestingly enough, the creator of Ghost in The Shell has no problem and has even visited the set to meet Scarlett Johansson.

Its not so much the "OMG, HOLLYWOOD IS WHITEWASHING AGAIN!!!" that has me abit suspicious as it is another Anime being turned into a live action movie. Of course it could just be me being scarred from the awful Dragonball Movie years agoo (and the fact that Hollywood usually cares more about putting people in the seats and less about the source material).

I rewatched the Original Motion Picture over the weekend; my hunch is that they are just going to tweak scenes for more action and not towards story telling.

I'm not so sure about that - from the new trailer hints at the end there, I got the impression that there will be a few surprises.

I think @Cano was referring more to being a bit sacred of the Major.

As GITS story arcs are "non cannon" between the different stories (Mangas, movies, anime series,...) they could go whatever route they wanted...

And yet the trailer looks amazing... it has scenes from GITS 1 & 2 and the series. Probably more, not that much of an expert, I was introduced to GITS in the 90's and only rewatched GITS this week after the trailer... and nostalgia smooths out a lot of things...

The pacing in GITS is hit and miss, dialogue/ translation could be better. Being from the early, mid 90's the concept of the internet is not as fully fledged as in latter itinerations of the series....

I think while washed down, the main philosohical questions about AI conscious, cyborg merging, what defines human, memories... will be in ... digestable for the mainstream, but still there...

I have high hopes for this...
(And as always some of the hate comes from the hipsters that don't want their stuff being mainsteam. Well if one mature manga was ever mainstream it was GITS. And if They like itso much what is bad if more people get introduced to it...)

pls be as good as I hope

And ScaJo is always watchable

I actually kinda don't mind the cover, but find it impossibly out of place being used in the movie.

That's really how I'm going to approach it, there is kinda no other way if you've seen the originals and stuff. If you're completely new to the franchise, this might actually seem way cool.

I actually don't mind Johanson playing Kusanagi, she is not a very good actress, but she fits the role well. With those lips, I'm starting to think that she might be the better wuitted actress to play Gally kif there ever is a Gunnm Hollywood butchering.

Forgot that the leaked casting photos were never put up

I wasn't thinking you were dissing her as a choice ;) more perhaps being scared of the Major's abilities and gestalt as a very capable combat specialist.

I do think she has done some good work in the past - notably Ghost World, Under the Skin and Lucy (I haven't seen many others of hers due to not being interested in the type of film, or the story.) Okay, she can come across as being a bit emotionless, but I don't see that has ever truly harming her, Keanu Reeves or Roger Moore and it fits in well with the role of the Major too.

@LMSCorvetteGT2 do you know if 001 and 007 are Borma and Ishikawa respectively?

Yes they are.

I mean it looks really cool and the music and the scenery really play homage to the actual show/graphic novel and others like it. I just feel that they're barely getting away with the suit they gave her, she looks nude and the outfit I recall didn't nearly do it to that extent.

EDIT: never mind it's pretty on par now that I've looked back at the original movie.

I think for me, the most important thing with GITS was the quality of story. They did a really nice job of adapting the Manga publications in to a script.

I worry they will just do a carbon copy of the story but really massicar the script. It'll be either a slow plodding and very dull film or move at a brisk pace but cut too short.

I agree they have hit the visual look perfectly and I have no issues with the cast choice.

...Man, my recommended list keeps on getting these movie trailers!! This time, it's the GITS's turn.

And you know what, this trailer pretty much almost gives away the whole central mystery. I said almost!!

I'm not a fan of the actual manga or anime (in fact, I didn't even see it or read it), but I'm willing to give it a try.

You know, because... the plot... and... visual efects and...

Scarlet Johansson

Typically I try not to go to movies based on stories in other formats prior, with "that's not how it worked or happened"

But this one will be hard, cause they some how combined the original OVA with Laughing Man and Kuze of individual 11 all in one movie...

I do not think that the Laughing Man is in this one...

Originally Michael Pitt's character was said to be both Kuze and Laughing man, which to me meant they segued two vastly different characters from the source material into one. From what I've now seen more recent to this film is that it's simply Kuze and dealing with the major and her sense of self in both the sense of the original movie and second gig.

...Hmm. I know it's only five minutes long and the heavy compression of the YT vids makes the scenes fugly but I'm not feeling it. Not 100% sure why.

The film released here today. Early critical reception from Rotten Tomatoes puts it at 72%, and 6.2/10 from Metacritic; however, RT has significantly more reviews.

Read the entire thread.

Uhhhhhhhhhh.

I was semi-interested in seeing this movie, but if it is going to be this white-washed, then I won't bother.
