Just wondering whether you guys used ghosts On or OFF during time trials, License Tests, Special Events etc.
I use them ON so that I know where I stand time wise.
But sometimes, they can be very distracting under pressure.
For example, in the Sebastian Vettel challenge, at the last corner of the last lap of Suzuka, I was inside Vettel's ghost, then, I got a little too excited and cut the apex too much. Instant Disqualification.
But nevertheless, I like it ON.

It keeps me competitive, so I keep it ON where possible.

I'd like to choose not for it to random dissapear sometimes.

And on licence test say I get silver the first time I do it I'm stuck with that ghost. If I go two tenth faster but still no gold it still reverts back to the slower ghost. Why?

I have the ghost on for the Licence Tests, but I have it off for Time Trials and the Special Events.

I've never had this problem.
Maybe you should make a thread about it or use the Search Function?

keep it off, its pretty annoying when you've got yourself driving about 2 feet ahead of you. i can't see the next corner

Exactly why I cut too much of the last corner, but the ghost was very helpful the rest of the time, motivated me.
I should have turned it off on the approach to the corner.

off, when I can see it I am already too slow, doesn't really help IMO....I also find that I often makes me miss my braking point since you try to "pass" it...

I wouldn't mind to use it if all the ghost for the people on GT-Academy list are usable and as someone suggested, chase the ghost thats just slightly faster than you, but being only able to get the top 10 guys means they are a bit far for me to follow...

For license test I use them. I don't do time trials, so I don't need them there. Only time I hate them is the Slalom license test. Ghost let you know if you can restart the test instead of waiting til the very end.

How?
It lets you know that you need to restart.
Saves time.

For the concept that you are supposed to use it to motivate you, to chase, its pretty useless....I can see the split time and know that I am slower, I don't need a transparent car to tell me though....

If you can set it to lead you a couple of car length it might be more useful...I like the idea of how they used it in something like the Loeb challenge, but the head start was a bit much to really "catch" it or to learn anything from it.

Depends... If I'm using the same car as the ghost, then yes, I like to have it on. If I'm using a different car (while hotlapping, for example) I keep it off because I tend to follow a line that might not be the best for my current car.

I start with it off, but switch it on to see how I'm doing then immediately switch it off again. Depending on how long the race / event / license is, will depend on how any times I do this.

Some events don't have split times.

Ah you are talking about like special events....got it..

I personally actually try to memorize time at some corners of the track and time it takes to get there and I sorta knows whether I am ahead or behind...especially like doing the Nurburgring AMG school...

The game only saves your ghost when you exit to the menu. I`m talking about the menu where you can adjust driving aids and tune your car (+++) before you start the race. When you get a better medal than you already had the game automatically exits to that menu. If you do well and want to keep your current run as a ghost car, you must not press the restart button, but exit the event and enter again.

I was talking about all events in the OP.
But there aren't split times in some events.
But I understand why you would want to turn it off whilst hotlapping, can be distracting.

I usually like it on. Helps in trying out different lines to see if they are faster/slower.

I've run into the same issue in the license tests, and it is really annoying. If you just choose "restart" instead of returning to the license menu (as it does when you get a new trophy) then it doesn't update the ghost even if you have a faster time. Really dumb. I rarely remember to return to the menu after doing a faster time, so then end up with an out-of-date ghost that is really counter-productive. I don't remember this happening prior to 1.05, so it may be a recently-introduced problem.

On, especially during license tests. If I'm going to silver a test again, I want to know as soon as I can so I can start over for gold. :)

Off, unless I realise that I'm loosing time in a specific area, eg, First two splits I'm up, cross the line I'm down, if this happens repeatedly, it means that I'm doing something wrong in the last few corners, turn on the ghost to see where.

For some License tests that start out on a long straight, such as the one at Le Mans, I find it useful to have a ghost to try and beat it in the drag race.

Mostly on except on some of the license tests and events where I am consistent enough that the ghost is always either right behind me or in my face and blocking my view. If it is annoying me, I will turn it off.

I've also turned it off in annoyance when I've tried to avoid colliding with it out of habit. I know, its a ghost, I can't hit it, but occasionally something in the back of my brain goes "PASS -> AVOID CAR" and I lose time trying to do a clean overtake on it rather than just running through it.

My ghost is almost always off.
I find it too distracting.

Especially when doing the Vettel challenges. I actually turn off my map and HUD for that. Mainly because I find myself looking at the sector times and clocks and end up missing the next turn.
