With the midgate down in the winter, it really isn't too different. Because everything has a full seal just like closing your window, it is just a matter of having the heater on full blast to keep warm.

The thing i've always wondered is, what's it like hauling with the Midgate down in Winter?

It not that bad. When you put the midgate down you don't have to take out the window unless its absolutely necessary, so not much wind come through the opening.

Yeah, the whole midgate thing is pretty cool. I'm surprised that only GM is doing it with the Avalanche and the H2 HUT. I thought Ford was going to use a similar setup on the Explorer Sport Trac, but I don't think it ended up happening.

The first images of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and 2007 GMC Sierra surfaced online today. Two types of interiors — one truck-style, and one luxury-inspired — will be offered. More details and photos are expected tomorrow following an official press conference.

I'll sum up what I've read so far:

- WT, LT, and LTZ models stay on the Silverado
- WT, SLE, SLT, and Denali models on the Sierra
- Five new suspensions, one designed specifically for towing
- Return of the short box (5ft 8in)
- Towing capabilities up to 10,500 lbs (highest in-class on light-duty models)
- Light duty Q4 2006, heavy duty Q1 2007.
- 17, 18, and 20 inch wheel options
- The 4.3L Vortec V6 soldiers on, again
- V8 Power comes from a wide range of options, including the long-running 4.8L LY2 (295 BHP), a load of 5.3L units with Active Fuel Management including some with E85 capability (315 BHP), the all-new 6.0L L79 from Australia (367 BHP, BTW: Look for this in the Camaro and Impala), and the 6.2L L92 V8 available only in the Sierra Denali.
- The 4L60E and 4L70E are standard, the 6L80E available on the Denali.

Looks like Chevrolet isn't taking any of Toyota's crap with their new Tundra...

I personally think they both look like sh**. I think chrome should belong on Escalades, not Silverados. My favorite Silverado is the SS which has no chrome at all.

The GMC is better, but is still just ugly looking in the front.I also don't like how its more rounded in the cab area. If it is released looking like that, GM has just converted me to a Ford man:nervous:

I think the Chevy looks great, the GMC a little too much like the FISO. Of course, pictures often don't do the vehicle justice by comparison to seeing it in person, but overall I'd give them both about a 9 on the scale of good looks.

All that matters is that they look better than the new Tundra...

Ewwwwwwwwww, you should see it in person... MUCH WORSE!!!

It'll look better in person, but I like it for now. It'll be exciting to see one on the road - the last redesign was way back in 1999.

Not true, the last redesign was between 2002-2003, unless your saying complete new chassis and all.

M5Power, out of your buying list for summer07, I would choose the Lincoln LS

Kinda weird to think the GMT800s have been around since '99. Its about bloody time they get these trucks on the road, so I'm ready to go look at one as soon as possible.

Sorry, that truck looks great. Don't get me wrong, but I hated trucks, until my dad got a FISO Lariat for work last year. That thing is friggin cool. I was reading the LLN posts on this truck and some of the people were complaining about gas mileage and how trucks shouldn't be around anymore. What dumbasses. We need trucks, no matter how much gas they burn (or in the case of some of these, corn). I say this is an INCREDIBLE step up from the current FISO (which is boxier and uglier than last gen) and that absolutely appaling Tundra. Long live the truck! And long live GM.

Yeah, I don't think we have to worry too much about pickups going away, only SUVs. But even then, there are some people (like my Dad) would could have bought a Silverado instead of an Avalanche, but even then, it wouldn't have saved him much in the process.

You're confusing a "redesign" with a "restyling." A "redesign" is the term assigned to a vehicle which has been completely reworked from the group up, like the Kia Sedona was for 2006, or the Chevrolet Tahoe was for 2007. A restyling, which is what happened to the Chevrolet Silverado and twin GMC Sierra in 2003, is just that - a styling change - that never involves the use of a new platform and rarely sees drastic changes. Sometimes there is a new engine or an old one is canned, and usually it's to cover up for the fact that a vehicle is getting old or, in the case of the Subaru Impreza, to cover up for its ugliness.

Thanks for the rec - I'm definitely looking at LS's - not sure if they're exactly what I want, but they're good cars for sure.

Design is an engineering term. Styling is a modelers term.
For example, the Audi TT was a great styled, horribly designed car.
The Chevrolet SSR was the same.
The Pontiac Aztec was horrible in both. As is B9 Tribeca.
The AMC Pacer was a horribly styled, nicely designed car.
Etc.

Just one thought came to my mind when I saw it: :yuck: My stomach actually turned when I saw it. Which is a surprise, because the last Chevy I looked at made me weak in the knees...the new Camaro.

This one will take some getting use to. I wasn't a big fan of the "evil eyes" look, but this is just....weird, and ugly. I think the Colorado is better looking than this thing.

Well, That being said, we'll see what it turns into in the coming model years. I got to looking at this thing, and it looks hashed, IMO. Like they took a little from this bin and a little from that bin and haphazardly slapped it all together. Hopefully the 2008 model will look a tad bit better.

I'm surprised. As nice as they're trucks looked in the past, I'm stunned that this one came out this way. C'est la vie.

Earlier today, we brought you spy shots of a GM heavy duty pickup in testing. But we've since found some photos of GM's new heavy duty line sans disguise. At its press conference for the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, General Motors also had the yet-to-be-announced pickups on hand. The trucks appeared in the background as GM CEO Rick Wagoner and other executives talked about the new Sierra and Silverado. The heavy duty trucks are distinguished by its full metal bumper and beefier looks. A red Sierra 3500 (1-ton) was also on hand.

Hmmm, interesting. I really can't see the huge differences between the Silverados, but the Sierra seems to be a bit beefier there. Maybe they are going like Ford and making their HD trucks just as outrageous?

I'm assuming that the GMT700's are all in final phrase of testing?

You mean GMT900? The first wave of regular 1500 GMT900-based Silverados and Sierras should be out within the comming weeks, but the HD version isn't due until early next year.

Oh oopsies...GMT900.

It obviously got larger - but how about the fuel economy? It has to cope with the $3+/gallon fuel prices.

Ehh not really. For the people who really need a truck on a day to day basis, gas mileage is not really going to affect them buying it. However for the people that have a truck more or less for image, they will be affected by the poor mileage of it.
