I ran these two siblings on the test track and they were both modified to about 500pp, Both were as light as possible and equipped with high RPM turbos. I couldn't believe how much quicker the Golf was off the line, doing a 0-60 in less than 3.9 seconds, compared to the Scirocco that did it in over 5.5 seconds. I know the Scirocco is not a 4WD, and so I feel as if that car is like wasted talent!

When I tested the two cars on Tsukuba on sports softs, they were both nearly identical in speed. Why would they make the Scirocco a front wheel drive vehicle? It could have been a great car.

Why is a FF platform bad? It seems to be a great car with it, also in this modern age of fuel efficient cars even the sporty ones, there are two ways it goes and that is FF or AWD. So to see it FF isn't that big a surprise.

On paper the Golf R seems to be the better car with the awd, kinda like a sti or evo.

After driving it, I realized that the Scirocco R is a much more enjoyable car for me. It feels more agile than the Golf without the extra weight. The two of them getting basically identical laptimes on Tsukuba show that the traction advantage of the Golf R is offset by the Scirocco's lighter weight.

^ I agree with that.

I just can't pick the Scirocco on some tracks with long straights because it's just too slow! Not just acceleration either, Try testing them in the 0-100, quarter mile, and mile time trial. The only thing the Scirocco beats the Golf in is top speed, but it just takes too long to get there.

Strange....i think with 500PP the scirocco is faster, @least for my bobs.

I'll kick em around the Nordschleife and post the results later

In my testing the Golf was about a second faster at 450PP on SS tires than the Scirroco on most of the midsize tracks we use in the game. The Golf itself was about a second slower than the better cars at 450PP. Both are underpowered relative to many cars in that PP range.

I know in real life the Scirocco doesn't touch the Golf R. Scirocco is severely lacking in the power department as opposed to the Golf. I also think this is represented in the game as well. Obviously after different modifications that changes. I think the Golf R is a better car though.

Scirocco and Golf R share the same engine. Scirocco has a better power to weight ratio than Golf. Scirocco got better Drag coefficient, which result in higher top speed as compared to Golf. How is that possible that Scirocco is severely lacking in the power department?

To add, if you compare a fully tune Scirocco and Golf. Golf R will definitely win. Its ability to put its additional power on the road with the help of 4WD as compared to Scirocco FF. And high powered FF car will suffer from under steer and torque steer. Imagine with 400bhp, the front wheel need to provide grip, braking and steering. Too much work for the front wheel.

I admit that having not tuned either car ( i only driven as stock ) i found the golf r alot slower .
I m not a fan of f w d cars normally but in this instance i found the 'roc to be the much faster car . Tested on the nordschliefe as stock (no oil change & c/s tyres) for 3 x laps each :

Golf R - 8min30sec.

Scirroco - 8min14sec.

The golf felt like it really struggled to haul its ass around in 4th & 5th gear , shame really otherwise it cornered really nicely .

A little understeer from the 'roc but at least it didnt feel like it was towing a caravan in higher gears as did the golf !

I m not the fastest guy on earth and i only gave them 3 x laps but 16 secs !
The f w d golf does 8.42 with only 200bhp .

Got to disagree with OP i find the golf r a bit lame , gimme a roc' anytime !

I am in an online race series using a stock Scirocco and our last race is tomorrow. I would like to start a new series that allowed very basic modifications and a few other cars (like the Golf R) in. Unfortunately I don't have the time to put into testing various cars and modifications that would create a competitive and fun series. If anyone else takes this on, let me know.

That sounds good, I wouldn't mind having a Golf and Scirocco showdown either. Add me on the PSN so we could set it up. Keep me posted on here.

FF is always going to be more compromised from mid-corner to the exit, exponentially so in the case of relatively powerful cars. You just cannot dial out the understeer enough while retaining the balance of the car.

PS Google "Friction Circle".

I wouldn't call the VW Scirocco a powerful car per say, and I already know what the issue is with FF platforms, but the true purpose of this car is fine for FF and those in its class as well.

If it's compromised at the apex of a turn then why is it so equal to the Golf? that is a 4WD with much quicker acceleration.
