Why would I want an xbox?
I'm rather astonished to find that this brilliant movie doesn't have it's own thread, so here it is. I know a lot of people don't like nicholas cage, but I couldn't care less. I love this film, probably my favourite car film, and one of my favourite films full stop. Discuss :)

Oh and where can I get a chevy hood bbq?

Compared to the original, it's absolute rubbish. Cage is a terrible actor, most of the driving scenes are pointlessly outlandish, about the only redeeming bits of the film are some of the cars and Angelina Jolie. Do yourself a favor and go find the H.B Halicki Gone in 60 Seconds.

Wait... the first one was a good movie? The original "Gone in Sixty Seconds" had great driving, great stunts and the longest chase scene ever, but the plot was thin, the acting was weaker than a lemon-juice battery and the movie started to feel pointless after the 25th crash.

The modern "Gone in Sixty Seconds" is terrible popcorn cinema, but it's more fun to watch than the original. And they had a prettier Mustang.

I liked it, haven't seen the original but it's worth watching at least once in a life time if you've even a slight interest in cars.
Cage isn't the greatest actor and the plot is majorly flawed but it still entertaining.
Off topic- Cage was good in a few movies; Bangkok Dangerous, Face off.....

Early Cage trumps new Cage every day of the week.

The movie is alright. I used to love the movie as a kid, since the movie had everything a 10 year old car enthusiast could ask for.:D

Thin plot? It's roughly the same as the new one. Steal cars for some sort of crime boss, though the rewards for the task are different. That would make the plot of the new one equally as thin. As for the acting, the movie had no script. It was mostly ad-libbed. That alone makes the new one worse, it was rubbish WITH a script. I'd watch the original a million times before watching the new one again. Also, Mach 1 > Shelby wannabe. I wouldn't take a real GT500 either, the 350 was the better driver's car.

I really enjoyed Nic Cages version, and not a day goes by that I don't use at least one line of dialogue from the film...

... but I'm also a massive fan of the original, accepting that it is an indie film funded by Halicki himself, directed by him, and starring him... the car chase is really 'pure', not anywhere near as gimmicky as shiney CGI eleanor jumping ambulance...

"Thats not how it went down Johhny D (or B or whatever his stupid name was)"

"It never rains, it pours" <-- Most obscure comment in the whole movie, and was just thrown in as an after thought after the producers noticed the lead characters last name I assume.

The movie was entertaining, and lots of eye candy in the car department. I don't really think it warrants its own thread this long after it came out though.

I'd say the movie was average. Sure it doesn't hold the test of time, but that kind of movie never will. Never saw the original and probably never will. I love the cars and woman in the film, the plot was fine, the script was cheesy, but I'm not one of those movie snobs that pretend to have high standards by hating every movie they see either.

I did enjoy it in the theatres, all except that last 'jump' scene  imo that is what kept it from more than an average flick.

I'll probably be viewed as dumb here, but I prefer both the newer GI60S and Italian Job over the original versions. Agree though that the final "jump" was pretty cheesy. Of course, I will watch the originals from time to time simply for the awesome stunts.

It was cheesy, but even this Bruckheimer-hater liked it. It wasn't a modern classic or anything, but it was entertaining. I remember Gone in 60 Seconds & the Fast & the Furious fondly, due to both being released when tuning & street racing were popular. Just the fact that cars were also starring in these movies made them enjoyable to a lot of young men, I think. I do agree with Jump Ace on the bridge scene though. They were doing so good, then

P.S. I like obscure films, but the original, I didn't get it at all. The new one had many memorable scenes that will stay with me forever. For a casual film, that's an accomplishment IMO.

I'd go for the 350H myself.

The new one actually attempted to inject something into the plot... they added characters, subplots and the like. It's not high cinema, but pretty good for your dime-a-dozen action movie... without resorting to "Fast N' Furious" style stupidity (okay, it was quite stupid, anyway...).

The old one? It was great because basically it was a film shot as an excuse to drive fast and wreck cars. But apart from maybe half of that 45 minute long chase... it's not compelling cinema... sorry.

A chase without context is just a snippet of film... which is why even "C'etait un Rendez-vous" flopped up a premise for the clip at the end of the romp through Paris.

RE: The Italian Job: The new one is nice, but the old one was pretty good. Makes no sense (either geographic or plot-wise) to have the Minis end up on the track on top of the Fiat building, but the whole chase was so cheeky that the lack of logic was forgiveable.

And that (literal) cliffhanger ending...
