Yup! everyone knows the default cars are too powerful. Except you?

I'd bother telling you about how the real 908 already had 2 huge aircraft grade turbos, and that fitting anything bigger would just destroy the engine and discuss the other things, but ... actually I can't.

Get real, or get lost :)

Explain to me how to "get real". I simply stated 3 facts in my post. And when did I say the default cars aren't powerfull enough?

Why not look at the real times?

A 908 did 3:19 DURING QUALIFYING. It's the second fastest lap time ever recorded (by hundredths of a second). And that's including times without the chicanes.

Anyone doing below 3:30 either needs to get their arse to Le Mans and sign up for next years race, or is cheating.

A sane laptime for a modern prototype is about 3:40. And that's only if you're really good at driving, and in good conditions.

GTs run about 4:10 these days. Just below 4 minutes when they had GT1 monsters.

I did 3:19 in my stock 908 and I wasn't cheating. From what I can gather the tyres they used are similar to Softs even tho they last much much longer.

And one more thing... where did you get those example lap times from??? If you'd watch LeMans this year you'd know the person that holds the lap record in the 908 Oreca Matmut, Loic Duval, posted 3:23.xxx during qualifying in the Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro.

P.S. feel free to buy me a ticket to LeMans and sign me up for next year's race :D because I'm clearly that good...

Also, I watched about 15 hours of it.

Again, QUALIFYING. And that was last year. Matmut had no 908s this year, nor did anyone. This years fastest RACE times were held by the audi (again) R18s... just under 3:40

Bit of a bore really, the TS030s were doing 3:45s, and without the speedy, unreliable, but fun Peugeots... *yawn*

A guy died though. Alan i-forget-someone in a Aston Martin DBR9. It was a wierd, somewhat gentle crash out of Tertre Rouge that didn't look like it would kill anyone. We were all surprised.

I'm still reeling from how cool this community is, when they asked his family if the Aston Martin team should pull out, and they said "hell no! win it for him!" :)

Sadly, some clod from the FIA managed to infiltrate the ACO stewards box and called a yellow for rain, so they couldn't.

Not trying to be rude. But that's kind of a vague statement. I have a 1G DSM drag car that makes over 1,000whp with a Garrett GT42. Runs 50+psi. The next step up from this turbo would be a GT45 or 47. They also make a GT55 and a GT60 which both can generate over 2,000hp. If I really wanted to I could swap flanges and run a GT55. Now if I tried to push the GT55 to it's limit this would definitely generate more boost than my particular setup could handle. However if I re-tuned the map in my ECU and increased the size of my injectors I'm sure I could generate more power. To a point. Once the motor started making over 1,500hp things in the rotating assembly would start failing. My point is that you cant say "any larger turbos would blow the motor". You might experience more lag with the larger turbos. Which would be pointless if it wasn't making a LOT more power. I think it would be better said that any larger turbos would not be worth running due to the lag they would generate. Plus there are rules and regulations which also play a part in the decision making of which turbos they will run. Sorry if I'm not articulating myself well enough. I've been awake since Saturday :-( I'm very tired
 
If you tried that, you'd crack the valves, rockers and probably everything else in the head. And possibly destroy a very expensive turbocharger too.
908s and all prototypes aren't an engine with some turbos slapped on, they design a whole engine package. Turbos, intercoolers, manifolds, etc. everything together. Slapping a different turbo on would at best, reduce power, or at worst, destroy it.

You must remember, these are engines designed for running 24hrs constantly at their peak. This kind of thing might work on your crappy nissan roadcar for a few drag races, it might even work for a F1 car, but Le Mans?... no. Forget it.

Peugeot have enough trouble with reliability anyway. That's why they pulled out this year (along with irritating political issues).

Seriously where do you get your facts from? Best Quali time this year was 3:22.346 by R18, not 3:40.xxx they were probably running those times in the damp conditions not when the weather was really good.

And I'm sorry they pulled out because of reliability issues? Hahaha maybe you didn't know but in 2011 all three 908's finished the 24h race in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. They pulled out due to lack of budget and economic reasons. Get your facts right!
