Google Chrome - Does the world need another web browser!

Google will launch its own web browser today called Chrome, apparently its been built from scratch talking the good bits from different open source devs including Mozilla.

Googles wants to focus on net applications with thier browser, probably offering seemless integration will all of Googles online apps. They are also going to trying and make it more stable, faster etc etc as with everyones broswer release. They say its going to be 'a fresh take on the broswer'.

There are not screenshots of it yet but its beta scheduled for release today at 6:00pm GMT... Maybe this is another step towards Google world domination!

Meh. I haven't had any problems with FF, so with FF I shall stay.
 
It all depends on how it will display pages. If it's the same as firefox, ie or safari then it's no problem.
But if it shows some things different it's going be extra work for webdesigners.

If they can get it right, I'm all for it. At the very least, I will give it a try. So far their promises are good, saying that it will be much faster than FF3 and Safari, and having it be open-source leaves for some very interesting customizations later on. Understandable as well, it will power the internet on the Google Android phones, and that should make for an interesting comparison to Opera and IE on the Windows Mobile phones and Safari on the iPhone.

We'll see, my interest has increased, I'll post a mini-review when I can get my hands on it.
 
Google Chrome is live - I'm using it now and so far I am impressed. I doubt Firefox users will be making the switch just yet, but page rendering is faster than anything I've seen before.
 
I didn’t read the comic, but my guess is that this is Google’s direct attempt at bringing web apps to the desktop. Right now there are several third-party implementations for Firefox and Safari to do this, but since Google has some of the most-used web apps right now, I’m sure they want control over that. This could be very interesting – I’m excited about what potential this holds over the next few years.
 
Just downloaded it, after a bit of a struggle! Like it, I think?? I like the small toolbar and the new tab recent pages pop up thing. Seems ok, no huge leap from FF but more competition cant be a bad thing. Although anyone else notice the scroll on their touch pad is now really really sensitive?
 
Im also trying it out right now, its quirky in a nice kind of way, very simplified and it does feel fresh.... almost like a mobile web browser but for your PC.

Only using 25K of resources per tab which is reasonable.. but the real noticeable thing is how fast pages render, I have noticed a drop in load times over Firefox 3...

Hmmm... still prefer Firefox and im sure after this is out other browsers will up their game...

I like the homepage features, like how it gives screenshots of your most viewed pages and the option to open certain websites in tabs upon browser launch automatically.
 
It doesn't seem to be much quicker than FF2 here.
What it gains in rendering the page, it loses in rendering bigger images.

I do like the extra space though that makes it ideal for 15,4 inch or smaller laptop screens.
 
I gotta say... I like Chrome. They really ought to add a spell checker though.

I just looked over this and will check it out when I get home. I wonder if they could use it on the PS3, since they seem to be making deals with Google. It would be awesome with its better memory usage and up-to-date Java apps. Plus, any updates would be quick and painless as it isn't a proprietary system to the PS3.

It's not XP blue, it's much lighter. I like it. But an option to at least pick a color would be nice.

Yeah they need to add middle scroll..

And I would have thought you could change the colour of the skin from the off but no, I guess thats because its beta, as you said XP blue looks so 2000! :sly:

I used it a few minutes ago at school. I liked it but scrolling is broken. I couldn't scroll back up with the wheel or by middle clicking.

The UI reminds me of something you'd see for Linux instead of Windows.

Some little usability tweaks could be made here and there, but overall it's quite nice... Still not enough to switch but the underlying technology is impressive.
 
I'm impressed with the UI... Simpler = better, and loads faster. It's just too simple at the moment with a few features I'd like to see, like smoother scrolling and spellchecker which doesn't seem to be there (and never has worked for me in FF either. :odd: ).

I'll defintiely be making the swap to it when it more features are added.
 
It's pretty good, although I really like the classic toolbar back integrated into maybe the 'tab' bar.

Incognito is good idea too, good for private uses. Also you gotta love the error messages which show up :lol:.

Firefox also has that, they call it the 'Awesome Bar'
