got pulled over today

i was late for work this morning and about a half mile from work i went over a hill and there was a sherif there, he instantly turned on his lights so i pulled over. he asked me why i thought he pulled me over and i said "i was probobly speeding", he said "i clocked you at 69mph in a 55mph zone" lol. i told him i work right down the road and was late for work and he went to his car for about 10 minuits, he finally came back and said i was honest with him so he will give me a break and he gave me a ticket for failure to obay a traffic signal.



the ticket i got is a way smaller fine and only 2 points on my liscence, the speeding ticket would have cost me over $300.00 and 7 points on my liscence so i got lucky lol 👍
 
Umm...

You've accepted a ticket for something you didn't do?
 
what was he going to do? argue that he didnt do that? i dont think that would have made the situation any better....but you can always go argue in court if youre feeling ballsy! the ticket is really just a court summons, and isnt official until the case is heard in a courtroom, so technically DG hasnt accepted anything yet.

I had the same kinda thing happen to me a few months ago, but for me it was 41 in a 25. But I got the speeding ticket...I dont know what the problem is, no matter how cooperative I am I always get the shaft. I think the cop thought I was gay, I was driving my sisters car at the time with butterflies on the license plate.

the same thing happened to me a few years back, I cam over a hill, the cop was coming the opposite direction, as soon as he saw me, the lights went on...I pulled over right away, he was going down hill pretty fast, so it took him awhile to turn around pull up behind me...when he came to my window, he said " Son, I appreciate that you pulled over and didn't make me drive farther than I had to, but why 135 km/h in an 80 zone ?" I told him I worked all night long and was just on my home to get some sleep. Since there was no one else on the road, and it was so early in the morning, he let me off but said " This is my new route, which means I'll be patrolling it every morning you get off work..watch yourself !

Nice Guy, funny when trying to be intimidating !

If I was the cop, I would have given you the ticket too. ;)

I am one of those lucky drivers, with a baby face that usually can get out of most tickets. I don't think I have ever gotten a real speeding ticket. I always get the same thing, not obeying a traffic sign. Cool with me, 75-85 dollars instead of the hundreds I could have spent.
 
im just going to send the ticket in and pay the fine they send back, here in NEW YORK you loose your liscence at 11 points, ill take a 2 point ticket over a 7 point ticket anyday. basicly the cop gave me a break, if i go to court and try to fight it the cop will tell the judge i was speeding and i will end up paying alot more money.

You know, it might sound like a pain in the a$$ to go to court , but what your saying is not true. A police officer would never convict themselves by saying in a court room that they lied and broke the law to give you a break. 99% of the time if the office gives a break on a ticket, and they get called to court, the office will not show up to court and the ticket gets tossed ( My Uncle used to work for a company that fought tickets for people )
 
Wow 7 points for a speeding ticket? In Michigan it's like 2 or something. Hell wreckless driving is only 6 in MI. New York must have some strict laws.

But when I get pulled over I'm just honest with the cops, I always say sir to the males and officer to the females, and I typically admit guilt. I've never gotten a speeding ticket though, only some stupid ticket for something I still don't understand.
 
i never get pulled over, prolly cuz they think they must be seeing things... "a civic that can speed? i must be dreaming." (keeps on driving)

ive passed cops (them going the opposite direction) going twice the limit before, i never get pulled over. The one or two times that got close, they just drove up beside me while driving and yelled at me.. lol.

You need a break from driving and a wake-up call.
 
Actually seen as the officer never entered any paperwork on your speeding and has probably got rid of teh evidence (Wouldn't keep it to make him look bad) if you really wanted you could contest it and get off scot free.

That's just my mind working overdrive though.

By giving you a ticket for a lesser offence - one which you DIDN'T commit - the policeman has broken the law. Quite seriously, as it happens. By accepting the ticket for a lesser offence - one which you DIDN'T commit - you're ALSO breaking the law in a much, much more serious way than 7 points on your licence.

Because speeding is bad and you feel that you accomplished something by not being pulled over doing twice the limit.
 
I have been pulled over so many times and been in a really bad state (which i don't do any more because it's stupid 👍 ), but I always got away with it. I don't know how. Coppers over here pull you over for no reason whatsoever. If they don't like the look of you or your car, they will pull you over. I'm not sure that they are allowed to stop you without good reason, but they do anyway 👎
 
A male mate of my sister claims he gets pulle dover when ever he wears his cap while driving.

I know smebody who has been pulled over for driving an E reg fiesta, he's like mid 30s.

Neither have ever been done for anything. It could just be police trying to look like they ae doing something. Perhpas these people resemble a gang or something. I don't know.

:p Okay, perhaps they resemble or their vehicles resemble that of known criminals in the area that are either on parol or are yet to be apprehended. Or possibly they have never proved these people (suspect criminals) are up to know good and hope to catch them on a drugs run.

It happens all the time; usually the officer isn't the one who gives you the break but instead it's the district attorney. I recently got a 26-point ticket pled down to five (careless driving 4, defective headlight 1). The officer didn't break any laws - at the end of the day, it's his discretion - but he likely won't show up for court and take the stand. With that said, I'd check the New York statute; in Michigan speeding is considered failure to obey a traffic signal and, as I said, it's officer's discretion on which one they give you. :)

The officer didn't break any laws - at the end of the day, it's his discretion - but he likely won't show up for court and take the stand. In the UK the officer would be shot out of a cannon into the heart of the Sun for this sort of thing.
 
M5Power, you should have lost your license, according to BlazinXtreme's explanation of the point system in Michigan. In Wisconsin, you lose like 2 or 3 points for speeding. You have a total of 8 points.

Here in America, gang members can plead guilty to manslaughter, a much less punishable crime, to avoid the obvious murder charge. He's doing the same thing. Agreeing to the lesser crime is part of our legal bargaining sytem.

He can be specific and say "exceeding speed limit, 69mph in a 55mph zone" or be more general and just say you "failed to obey a traffic signal."

There's no way he wrote you an illegitimate ticket; he could lose his job, and I doubt he'd risk that to give you a break.

Plea bargain. The prosecutor lessens the charge in exchange for the plea.

I was pulled over a month ago for going 81 in a 65 :ouch: . I still haven't gotten the summons or fee back.

i never said any of that, i said he gave me a break, famine said i got a ticket for something i didnt do.
 
2 AM one morning I pulled out onto this empty road and gave it abit of stick in my Skyline up to just above the speed limit, about 600m down the road a cop walked out on the road and yelled at me to pull up so I did, unfortunately they just chased and caught a loser in a 90's 300ZX twin turbo (Z33) so they were in a bad mod and when they heard my Blow off valve in the distance they were after my blood.

They claim I must have been flying and asked me how much rubber I lost off my tyres, I said " I didnt get any wheelspin at all" they just grumbled and asked how fast I was going, I said "I dont know". Later I said probably over because they were about to defect my car, so he said because I was honest he only gave me a undue noise ticket of $70 AUS and let me go. In Australia getting you car defected is a nightmare and cops do that alot of the time because its alot worse for people with modified cars than any ticket is.
