I installed it last year and found the same results as in the test. I have always trto minimise autostart programs and tasks in windows. In the end nothing sped up as I already had a PC that was running as clutter free as possible. I ended up uninstalling it.
Maybe it helps ensuring windows doesn't try to do any auto update checking or antivirus software doesn't start a scan. As long as you schedule those for when you're definitely not going to be playing it shouldn't intrude. I found uninstalling Microsoft Office helped more than anything.
