UPDATE FROM MAZDA

After rookie Syd Viscus secured his first podium in his seventh Gr.3 race, he sat down with us in Tokyo ahead of the ARL Open Wheel Championship round tonight to discuss the excitement, the ups and the downs, of the race in France over the weekend.

"We are ecstatic, first and foremost, to have the opportunity to prove what we can do in a premier championship series against stiff competition, and we are thrilled to see the progress from race to race." Viscus proceeded to thank his team, among others, for their achievements at the halfway point of the season. When asked to summarize the race, he had this to say; "Start was okay, quite bunched up for the first lap and we stayed patient. Mistakes from a couple cars ahead had us up to a podium place by the end of lap two, which we never relinquished. We managed to lead our first ever laps, then ran wide shortly after, moving us to P2, regained the lead briefly via pitstop but after our stop on lap 13 it was P2 again for the remainder of the race, and overall P3 from @aceboy127 and PApunk"

What everyone was curious about, though, was the actions of the Mazda on the last lap, in the final corners. "As I came over the crest, there was a back marker parked across the track, and ahead was my main rival of the series, buried in the wall. The option for me was clear, he had a consistent lead since my stop, he deserved the win. There would be no honour or bragging rights in taking that win, I very much prefer to beat @PApunk924 with no asterisks, no assistance, no excuses. Maybe if in multiple seasons I have no wins, maybe I have regrets, but not now, not today, today we are very happy with this result."

After Tokyo, Viscus will be on to Cali to duke it out in vintage machinery, something he says he is very excited for. "Those cars are awesome, that track is one of my personal favourites, its gonna be a fun five days in the sun."
