Well this weekend marks the Italian Grand Prix. From a brand new circuit to a circuit with a long racing heritage, once the famous banked Monza oval.

We are now well and truely into the business end of the season. Kimi must win the remaining 5 races, and have some bad luck hit Alonso for him to win the drivers championship.

The constructors cup on the other hand is a much closer competition, with only a 9 point gap between Renault and McLaren.

In recent testing at Monza, Montoya has been the main man, fastest on all days that McLaren tested.

The only real change for this weekend is that Tiago Monteiro will be driving the new EJ15B chassis, which should be much faster than the old chassis.

This place usually throws up a good race, I can't wait!

Sounds like it's going to be a great race. Can't wait.

Last years Italian GP was great! could of been anyones day buti n the end it went to Rubens after having ot make an extra pitstop.

This years sounds liek its gonna be awesome, and after Turkey it will have to keep up.

Predictions based on no evidence wat so ever:

1st: Kimi
2nd: JPM
3rd: Alonso
4th: Button
5th: MS
6th: Fisi
7th: Rubens
8th: Sato

So thats BAR, Ferrari, McMerc and Renault having both cars in the points, they could change the constructors a bit...

I really think Alonso should be able to wrap it up here, as long as he keeps out of trouble and gets a nice quali spot he should do well. (i dont think reliability would be an issue for Renault, especially Alonso's Renault)

So heres to the end of the drivers championship.

wllimas did well in testing at monza and they have showed great pace at the Turkish grand prix so I won't rule them out from teh points , if they could quilfay in 10-13 range and have a good load of fuel

I dont think their motor is as powerful as the Merc, Renault, Ferrari and Honda. Maybe if someone messes up they could pick up the pieces but thats all in my view.

Not just yet - there's 5 races remaining, and Alonso has a 24 point lead over Raikkonen. If Fernando gets 10 more points than Kimi, that'd leave 34 points between them with 40 remaining from Spa, Interlagos, Suzuka and Shanghai. Unlikely, but it could happen.

I'm having a HARD time with this week's race and my fantasy F1. I'm debating switching Ferrari to BAR. I'm 27th in the standings and the highest rated american, I'm trying to get sub 25 by the end of the season.

If this race was anywhere but Monza I would have dropped Ferrari, no questions, for this week. However, one can't count Ferrari out at Monza. I think JB might beat both Ferrari's but MS and Rubens combined will score more points than JB. Sato doesn't do anything. Also given engine track records I put more faith in the Ferrari engine not to grenade than some Honda special deal like they usually have.

Otherwise the top 40 or so in this Fantasy F1 have the same team Kimi/Alonso as drivers and either Ferrari/BAR/Toyota for engine/chassis, Michelin tires. So we pretty much score the same...

So, based on testing results last week...

I see no reason why McLaren won't be 1/2 (Kimi then JPM), other than the Merc engine which I give a 40% chance of one car finishing and a 20% chance of BOTH finishing. Sad, but that is the state of modern Mercedes engineering.

I'll call it like this,

Kimi
JPM
Alonso
MS
Button
Trulli
Fisi
Webber
Rubens
Heidfeld
Massa
DC
Sato

I think with the Mercs and Honda there is a big ? if they will even finish.

I always love Monza. It should be a good weekend.

Well Alonso is one smart cookie when it comes to the track, i can only think of 2 mistakes he has made throughout the season, at the Canadian GP and the Hungarian GP, otherwise it has been a practially perfect season for him.

He knows what hes gotta do, the pressure is off him right now and is on Kimi, Kimi needs a win, Alonso does not.

But Kimi has the equipment to win. He just needs to hope that it holds together.

And BTW Kenji, McLaren have scored points in every single race this season (excpet USA). So the rate of at least 1 car finishing is 100%. :p

kimi will not win the race due to an engine change after practice. he will do good though.

ferrari will have great pace in qualifying but will drop off that pace mid race and end up finishing 7-12th.

my worrys for bar is their lack of straight line speed. they seem to like the wing a bit much. that said i expect button to finish in the points. sato, baring any moving chicanes and other bad luck, i think he will do well.

and jordan... i hope they do better with the new car. i like them. not a fan, but i like them.

This is the first race for Kimi's engine, I think it's fairly unlikely that it will have problems.

Ferrari are using the hard tyre compound they used in Turkey (the one they were going to use at Monza exploded during testing so they decided to bring a conservative construction). So qualifying will probably not be Ferrari's strong spot this weekend.

I wouldn't think they are dumb enough to use too much wing at Monza, top speed and acceleration is too important.

Woo, go Webber 👍 go kimi 👍

Williams seem to have carried their testing form to the GP :D

Blake

Wow. Webber is really quick...I hope that lasts.

Hurrah BAR beat Ferrari again, how come the Renaults didn't go out?

Williams are showing good potential for the race there mingling with the McLarens.

De La Rosa's time is just plain scarey.

Montoya got into the 1'19s in testing, and provisional pole last year was 1'19.5 (Montoya) ... it's not that scary.

Renault tend not to set timed laps in the first practice sessi0on, and there is really no reason to, the teams have been at this track all week. They've got all the data they need and most have already pretty much made their tyre choice.

i thought it was the second for kimi. my bad.

ferrari had better be fast or there wont be a race due to a huge mob attacking the track...

all i can say for bar is... uh... yay sato?

Pizzonia is replacing Heidfeld for the rest of the GP weekend. Apparantly Nick has a bad headache and would prefer not to race.
