Gran Turismo 2000?

Can someone explain to me what Gran Turismo 2000 was please. I think it was supposed to be on Playstation 2. I found the intro on YouTube...

Now for some strange reason everytime I watch this I straight away think "Gran Turismo 2 with a HD cover"...

And then there is this video. It's not GT2000, but instead a PS2 demo that PD released in 1999... (Watch between 0:10 to 0:16)
Now apparently what they did with this demo was take the Gran Turismo 1 intro, which was on PS1, and then uprate it to PS2 standards. IGN explains it better...
"Gran Turismo - In this rather straight-forward demonstration, Polyphony Digital has ported over the code from the original Gran Turismo, upping the texture resolution considerably, resulting in an almost photo-realistic racer. This was shown to illustrate the ease of moving PlayStation code onto PlayStation 2 with considerable enhancements".

So can anyone tell me more about this GT2000?

PS: Also, does anyone know where I can get the full GT PS2 demo? (The uprated GT1 intro video thingy)

Gran Turismo 2000 was the initial name for GT3, it was basically a working progress of development from GT2 similar to what GT4P, GTHD and GT5P were to their respective full titles. 99-2000 was when the PS3 was released so they thought they would tie in with that and it was planned as a launch title but you know PD... it was delayed till 2001.

You could baically say that it was Grand Turismo 3 Prologue but was never released. Working with GT2 physics and uprated graphics. The final GT3 was in essence the same only with new 3D models which took ages thus the small number of cars.

PD would have called the final game Gran Turismo 2000 if it wasn't for the fact that they realised the the series didn't need a flashy reboot name and that the next number as it were would appeal more to the loyal fans and so now it has stuck.

I have a few bits and bobs on GT 2000 somewhere like an old magazine article, let me know if you want me to dig it up.

An interesting look at the early builds of GT2 and GT3 are the demos released for them. The old GT2 demo I got on an Official PS Magazine disc back then had an arcade/GT selection menu like GT1, and a rather different-looking GT mode menu with (unselectable) cars such as the Ford Escort that never made it to the final game. The GT3 demo from early in the life of the PS2 had physics reminiscent of GT2, and retained the loud blow-off valve effect too, which disappeared by the final release.

Attached because I'm too lazy to host it myself: a screenshot of said GT2 demo's main menu.

Yes, dig it up please. I want to know more dude.

:cheers:

I think I have found evidence that GT2000 is an uprated version of GT2. Listen to the engine sounds on this preview and look at the cars...

So, the engine sounds sound the same as in GT2, including the AI sound, and then the cars have blacked out windows, again exactly the same as GT2.

There is more proof in the Intro movie of GT2000...

Some of the clips in the intro are just Hi-Res clips from the GT2 intro. For example, the clip of the White 70's Skyline spinning at 0:42, and don't even get me started about the yellow Impreza at 0:46!

Craig HP,

Ive dug up the old magazine article (from 2000!) its 3 pages long and ive uploaded it to my GTPlanet gallery, I hope it helps give you more info on GT2000. :)

Heres the link...

Thanks Robin. Just read them, even the magazine said it was an upgraded version of GT2, which is also what Robin said. And that makes me think, I wonder what the Palm Strip would have looked like in High Definition? Still, thanks again Robin!

:cheers:

hello to all;

First thing I'm sorry for my terrible english :indiff:
I'm a Gran Turismo collector and I've got a copy of GT2000, all information given by Robin are correct!
This is a very interesting demo, is better than Gt2 and worse than Gt3... in this demo you can only ride a Lancer around Seattle (time limited), and you can choose between "drift" and "course" style of guide.
If you want to see a picture of the disk take a look at my collection at:

http://alexbrasil.byethost13.com/media/collection/

take a look at "pic 04"👍

Welcome to GTPlanet alexbrasil! :)

Your pictures..... WOW just WOW! :eek::eek::eek: You are like a GT superfan! Are you linked to the industry by any chance seeing as youve managed to obtain some pretty rare demos, press and test copies.

How come you haven't been on gtplanet till now! :lol:

Did you also notice the downgrading or graphics from GT4 prologue to GT4 (as shown in my gallery posted previously) would love your input as you probably know a lot about the games!

Welcome to GTP alexbrazil. I've just had a quick look at your gallery, and I must say you have more disc's than a flipping ice hockey team. Nice one! :) 👍

PS: You're English is actually pretty good. If you need help with anything just send me a PM! :)

Awesome collection alexbrasil 👍.

You even have the BMW version too :drool:. If I remember correctly, BMW version has something special that is better than GT4.

I have that version! I remember ringing up BMW pretending to be interested in buying a 1 series! :lol: Can you remember what the special thing was? Maybe the track was higher res than the final GT4...

Robin

Thanks to all for the welcome! this is the best forum to talk about Gran Turismo. Trying to answer some questions, I'm not linked to the industry of cars or games, all the games that I have I found on internet, yahoo Japan auctions, ebay and trading with other people.
Talking about the games, in the BMW demo (like gt4 prologue) the graphics of the track was much better than the final GT4, was amazing to drive around "New York" and see all that buildings so detailed.
If I found some time I'll try to put new pictures on my collection soon. Thanks again to all.

Alessandro

That would be great, thank you :).

I wish I can remember what makes BMW edition so special. It is mentioned during argumentation of GT4 physics.

Man, I want all of those:drool:. Especially the books and reference manuals, and the tin case version looks cool too. Is the L-screwdriver used to open the nuts(I don't know what it's called)supplied with the case? That's awesome alexbrasil:tup:. I wish I were you.

Hang on to those and in 10 years time if you sell them you'll probably have enough money to buy one of the cars in GT for real :D.

If you have all of this then I presume you're a pretty good driver then aren't you? Do you actually use your collection to play? Because in the photos all of them looked like they have been kept locked up in a sterile, temperature and humidity controlled vacuumed room, and you can only touch the cases with special gloves :lol:. Meaning they all looked brand new.

Wonder what Kazunori Yamauchi will say if he sees this, probably something along the lines of "You're granted unlimited lifetime access to the GT development factory for your commitment, dedication and contribution to the series.":)

Once again,:bowdown: to alexbrasil.

Hello LeGeNd-1;
My collection it's not closed in an sterile temperature and humidity controlled vacuumed room... until now :lol: I just try to keep all my games cleaned! I'm not a maniac collector, I play/played all my games, I remember before the release of GT4 when I get my first gran turismo demo (Gran Turismo BMW series 1), I played that demo thousand of times.
Answering your question, the Gran Turismo Concept Press Kit Edition is really a great Press Kit (there's not a playable demo inside, only press information) the box is metallic and to open you need to use the "L-screwdriver".👍

Alessandro

Even more reasons to envy you :drool:.

What sorts of info does the press kit and other booklets give you? Infos on the game's spec or tips on tuning,driving style,etc?

I got my games off a second hand game shop, so the discs are quite badly scratched (thankfully it's still playable like new) and the booklet that are suppossed to come with the game standard are missing 👎. I would really want to own one (the booklets,I mean),aside from fanatism,it's to add to my 'car books collection'(I'm a car and book nut,you see:)).

In these press kit you always found lots of High Res pictures of the game, the cars in the game, the Kaz's biography, pictures of Polyphony Inc., pictures of Gran Turismo Logo (different dimensions)... in poor words, all the necessary to write an magazine article about the game.

Thank you very much Robin for those scans :)

alexbrasil, your collection is brilliant. These are the only ones that I've:

The one near to the BMW Demo, in CD-R, is just the Prius Trial Demo, I couldn't get it on original :nervous:. This picture looks like **** after your collection, really. I'm trying to get some demos through internet but it's quite dificult in fact, and expensive for shippment to the island where I live, the bad point of live in a paradise in the atlantic ocean haha, but let's see if I found anything and I'm lucky...

In fact, I've the BMW Demo just by luck because a shop give me it here in my island. I was really very lucky that day I think, I didn't knew it exist, the guy just give me a demo and I was it could be just a normal demo of GT4, I was even going to tell him "not necessary", but wowww, when I see it was the BMW one... *_*

Thanks for share your pictures with us :dopey:

Hello Aero-R;
Your collection is great, I started just like you, with the normal versions, also Gt3 Platinum... and my first demo was the BMW series 1, so, you are starting better than me, because you have the BMW series 1 Dealership (without time limited on Nurb), so keep going:tup: and we'll be happy to see your collection growing! :)

Yeah but on eBay I don't see any auction for demos or anything else, so I can't found the rare ones :yuck:

Do any of you have the nike shox, tshirt and GT4 box set? Would love to see some pics!!
Hello Robin;
In this pictures, not from my collection, you can see the nike box, about the game; only the front cover is different from the normal version.

I don't know why the links are not working (poor free server...) later if I had time I'll put the pictures on imageshack
sorry for that :(

Let's try again!

Alessandro

Those links take me to some google blog thing?? no pics?

Alex, I guess that would be highly sought after for you as you seem to have everything but that nike kit! :sly:

Re-edit the last post... yes Robin, this kit is amazing, but man it's so expensive, I've seen it on ebay a couple of times for "only" 300 € too much for me :)

Alexbrasil, what a fantastic collection! :drool:

I truly envy you! Thank you for sharing it with us GT nuts on here!:bowdown:

There were my friends thinking that i was a hardcore GT fan after i won my copy of GT4P a month early after visiting Beaulie motor museum here in the UK, but you have blown me out of the water!

I've got everything that's officially been released in the UK (apart from the 1-series demo and platinum versions) and i still love them to bits.

If anyone could give me an idea about where's best to track down the series soundtrack CDs i would be most appreciative too!

Robin, I remember the article you posted on GT2000 too. It was in Play magazine right? Oh how many days i spent just looking at the pictures and soaking in their detail and infromation. Funnily enough whilst 8 years have passed, i'm still doing that with GT5P at the minute! :lol:

Roll on 28th March eh?

Hello legroom;

I just take a look at "Beaulieu motor museum" site, wow that museum is fantastic! every time that I have been in London, great part of my time I have passed visiting the museums... amazing, sorry for the off topic :)
Great part of my collection came from UK, there is a lot of "material" there :)
About the sound tracks of the games, I never found on stores, but ebay is your friend, just type "gran Turismo Sound Track" or "Gran Turismo Music" and you'll find all cd's.

Oh my god alexbrasil, that collection is awsome i envy you sooooooo much! Yeah i played a GT2000 demo at a friends house (it was a copy) and didnt think twice about it. Oh and alexbrasil could you like list all of the GT's you have by any chance?

Finally got round to taking a picture of my collection.. Its relatively small compared to yours alexbrasil! :) Click on the picture for the full size..

Gran Turismo 3 A Spec - NTSCJ
Gran Turismo Concept Tokyo 2001 - NTSCJ
Gran Turismo 4 Prologue - NTSCJ
Gran Turismo 4 BMW Virtual Drive - PAL
Gran Turismo 4 - PAL
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - NTSCJ

My copy of GT3 (one of the first released) came with a Reference Guide which documents all of the cars stats and has a brief writeup on each. Apparently its quite rare.. Sorry about the blur..
