At this point, all I can say is that the game better not be delayed till summer. That's ridiculous! There is no excuse for that! PD has had nearly THREE years to get this game right, and now they need another 8 months?!?! I looked the other way when GT2 was delayed over and over. When GT3 was delayed, I said "Ok, well at least the game will be good." But no more!!!! This kind of delay is utterly unexusable. Why give Electronics Boutique and Kay-Bee toys a release date of January 6?!?! I have read on many sites that KY had promised a January release date! How can they (PD) continue to be behind schedule on EVERY SINGLE GT game?!?!? Why give arbitrary release dates to your fans that you have absolutely no intention of making?!?!? I am also weary of hearing people say "well, I hope they take their time and get it right when it eventually does come out." That is not the issue at all! They have had ample time to get the game right. They promised the game by a specific date for god's sake!!! Now they want to reneg on their promise because somebody (KY) couldn't get the game done in 3 years!!

Please don't misunderstand. I am only so mad because I love this series so much and just want to have the game in my sweaty little paws. I am, however, truly disappointed in the professionalsim, or lack thereof, that PD is displaying. There is absolutely no excuse for 3 GT's in a row to miss their release dates (GT2, GT3, presumably GT4). Somebody should be accountable! We the fans of this great series, should let it be known that these ridiculous delays will not be tolerated. I am personally writing a choicely worded letter to KY and PD in which I detail my utter disappointment in them. If enough people voice their opinions, maybe we can avoid such inexusable delays in the future.

If not, I'll sit around, twittling my thumbs, in anxious anticipation of the greatest racing game of all time!

Many Many games miss deadlines, and when they finally arrive they are still a load of rubbish.
Be thankfull every single GT game has been an innovation beyond anything else that is available.
GT was an unequivicle, unexpected success, and Sony soon stepped in to use it as a marketing tool.
At the time of GT2 Sony were so desperate to outdo everyone else, that they they forced PD to put out a product that really wasnt fully developed, or thoroughly tested! and although the game was a huge success and featured A massive advance in gaming depth, KY was not happy with the final product.
After the massive success of GT2 Sony once again needed this flagship title to be upgraded in preperation for PS2.
And the PD team set about creating GT2000, which was essentially meant to be a game about the size of GTConcept, to showcase what PS2 was capable. As developement progressed KY wanted more time to fully evolve the project into more than a glitzy Demo for PS2 into a fully fledged sequal, which led to us getting the one year late GT3 which completely blew away the competion, even if the Ai was a bit lame.
This time around KAZ has been looking to make the racing game he dreamed of making since he made his first Toon Racer (whos name evades me), He has so many ideas he wants to incorporate, and improvements in terms of Physics, graphics, AI, Cars, Tracks and game modes including online.
Now with a stroke of luck PD have managed to evade the Pressure to release the product too early, quite simply because Sony who need GT4 To Be a show case Title for online, it simply isnt cutting it, and Sony know its not good enough to release yet.
Other contractual agreements now mean we will get the teaser trailer for GT4 around Xmas and Jan 04....the release dates advertised on some sites(i Believe), then sometime around summer 04 expect to see GT4 the full package....with or without an online component, who knows, but i would suggest if its not a great experience it wont make the Game, And i believe 8 months is enough time for them to figure this out.

All In All I think the Extra developement time, will really pay dividends to the whole product this time. So be Patient!
And let your patience be rewarded.

Oh come on give PD a break, they are using this extra time to make GT4 perfect and without it we may end up with a game that is not perfect and full of problems which I don't think you would like. Just think of the amount of cars are in GT3, GT4 is set to have at lest 5 times that amount, imagine how much work that is modelling 500 odd cars, getting the handling right, and getting all the sound bites, its hard work and does take time.

Just be thankful that Kaz is the type of person who doesn't put up with second best, it has to be perfect which results in an excellent end product. I just wish more game developers would give their games that same treatment, and maybe the world could be free of crappy games. Just wait it out, I am sure it will be worth it in the end.

I felt that way too majin up until I realized PD is trying to do with GT4. I think they would have stuck to the late 2003/early 2004 if it wasn't for the online mode, but knowing what perfectionists PD are, I'm grateful they're thoroughly looking at the problem and hopefully we'll get the best GT yet.

IMO i wouldnt care if they ditched online intill GT5

gran turismo 4 is indeed and will be the greatest game ever so far from what i see and if they need more time to make it better... fine with me :)

i was just looking on amazon.ca, and it shows Gran Turismo 4 is available for pre order, how ever the date shown for delivery is december 31, 2010, which is impossible so i think it was just a typo and it is really december 31, 2003...why would they put it for preorder if it wasnt coming out until may or june or whenever, so it is most likely coming out on december 31 or early january :)

heres the link for gt4 at amazon.ca

will gt4 Prologue play with the ps2 flip top and swap magic mod.

Well, I can play Prologue with the flitop and swap maigc 2.0. However, I'd wait til the full version is released in japan, then get GT4. Prologue is too short, and you'll only want more.

Well, I bought the GTP Prologue Ed. I don't have it yet, but it's on it's way. I have a slide card to play it with. I don't mind buying other GT games. I'm really a GT fan so I already have GT1, GT2, GT3, GTC2002, GTC2001, and now GT4 Prologue, and soon to have GT4 when It comes out. :D Gotta have 'em all.

Can we stop this specualtion on the release date, everywhere has a different date. God I would love it to be out early Jan but it's so unlikely for that to happen.

the most realistic dates is febuary and the other is april (from scee) now i dont think we need to disscuss this release date stuff anymore

Online code is not hard to do, and it won't have to be regional set for sake of lag.

Papyrus have made netcode solid enough for 8+ 56ker connections to play without noticeable lag/warp, so i think 6-10 broadband connections would be extremely extremely easy to do without any noticeable problems, and at higher rates. Nascar 2003 is even more streamlined, enabling full field grids to race without warp (full nascar grids!) over broadband connections.

I severly doubt polyphony are being held up on the netcode, when it's probably been worked on for the last 3 years anyway (maybe more).
