What could the customization refer to?

I hope there is a livery editor. Fair enough i won't be able to create anything decent but i know there's a community out there who can, and i'd love to see them on the racetrack.

I hope the body kits and race conversions are copy of real ones even if there not called the same e.g
body modified murcielago looks likes a lp 670-4 sv, even if its not called a sv I think it would be nice if the body kits made it look like one and then if I race modify it looks like a rsv.

When I used to play Forza the editor was my favorite feature (didn't like the racing much) I had cars I spent hours on designing. GT is a different animal thou, with 1000+ cars to drive and the fun of just driving in GT games I wouldn't really need it. Thou it would be a very appreciated feature.

This one, we have seen in a replay from Nurburgring and was also seen in the E3-trailer:)

I love this gif, and what it represents.

Yes, that was a T400R:)

Here's my theory

The tuned Tuscan and tuned Cappuccino (GT5P) are examples of how a racing modified car will look like in GT5. As you can see they have some major modifications and also have decals which I think will be included in the racing modification package. With racing modification you won't be able to choose parts separately, you can only choose a whole package.

The tuned Corvette, 111R, Viper, Evo X from GT5P are examples of how I light modified car will look like. You will be able to add splitters, diffusers, spoilers, replace front/rear bumper and sideskirts.

Some cars in GT5P also had carbon fiber roofs. I think you can buy replace stuff like that at the same place as you could buy a carbon fiber hood.

But as I said, this is just my theory/dream:drool:

Actually, I agree that the Cappuccino probably is representative of a race-modified car - it's got all manner of bits on it, that the other "Tuneds" don't have, including that Tuscan, and it's referred to as "HP / Tuned", whilst all the others were just "Tuned".

The Cappuccino has much larger wings / fenders, and larger wheel arches, as well as the new bumpers, skirts, rear wing and mirrors and what looks like a hard-top roof - the side repeaters and front badge are missing (the latter might be because of the carbon bonnet / hood), and the front indicators are smoked.

I'm not so sure if the Tuscan is race-modded - it's got a new front "bumper" and a rear wing; I can't explain the side-exit exhausts (replacement sills / sideskirts?), or the decals (still), then there's the mirrors - but the bodywork is otherwise wholly intact / stock. I can't find good pictures to compare, sorry.

Don't forget both tuned Mitsubishi Evo's in Prologue, which also seemed to be far more visually modified than the other tuned-cars.

Although this may also be an example of the bodykits we're getting perhaps.

I like that they removed the front license plate from the tuned cappuccino! I never noticed that before.

Edit: but I guess they dont remove all of them like the Evo above, But it is offset like a tuner car though (or maybe thats how it comes).

I can't help but feel that we're going to unfortunately see many paid DLC for custom body parts/bodykits, as they're the pure essence of "extra content".
Additional new cars will probably be free (a few new ones would be included in spec updates like with Prologue, I suppose), though.

Hopefully a livery editor and car mods. I know some people say a huge spoiler and sideskirts don't fit in gt racing but some do. Ground effects are used a lot in gt. And face it, this is no longer a gt game only. With drifting, NASCAR, rally, karting ect. Drifters are gonna wanna pimp their rides out.
A track editor may be asking a lot but a simple editor may not be impossible. Even if its just a huge open paved area where you can create your own coned time attack courses would be cool bit I'd much rather have Spa, Magnum Cours(Sp?), Monaco, ect added(can u tell I'm an f1 fan? Lol)

One thing I find is often overlooked, FM was created to encapsulate car culture; to reflect what real world people are doing to their cars and to allow creative people to express themselves, like the tuner market does. The racing side of it was the 'job' and the customization and car selling was the part of the game they wanted to offer. There's been straight GT clones (Sega GT being the most obvious) and it was pretty much a slavish copy, but Forza has offered something beyond the racing.

In comparison, the cars in GT have always been treated like museum pieces, collected by people and largely remaining standard throughout the game.

See I really like that part of FM3. Building cars was a big thing for me in GT4, and I think it's really what held it's value. BUT I think that is what made FM3 so boring, is the fact it felt more like a job rather than a hobby.

If there is a livery edittor I am going to make on of my cars look rusty as hell.

Like ol' Rusty, eh?

An excellent example (gotta love pictures after all), that goes along with what I posted a page or so back.

Looking at those Evo.s, and the Tuscan, it seems there is no solid distinction in the "stages" of modification.

This would tie in with the mention of a "racing modify menu", where, presumably, different aspects of the "racing mod" conversion can be chosen separately.
Either that, or perhaps the racing mod now is a non-visual thing; purely mechanical?

If the bodykits available would not differ visually from those on the race-mod ( which I somehow doubt ) then the outside appearance could indeed be somewhat similar apart from details such as differently placed exhausts, etc. and maybe a livery option.
But I do think ( or hope ) the interiors of race-mods are completely different with added rollbars, stripped interior, different dials and steering wheel, etc.
You know, how a pure racecar looks and should look inside, whilst simply adding a bodykit would mean the interior obviously remains the same.

That is a really good point.
Bodyparts such as spoilers and wings would most likely only offer a cosmetic difference compared with other parts of a similar but different design. That would not affect the game progress in career mode or - more importantly perhaps - the balance online.
Unique cars and tracks available only for purchase online would do so, eventually.

We could take this even further. For instance editing/creating Your avatar, ingame and online, changing the looks, architecture and perhaps location of Your garage? Like that PSN Home-thing. A virtual reality parallel to GT5, SIMS style.
I never cared - nor will I - enough to get a life in Home to dress my avatar or decorate the flashy studio apartment with no kitchen or bathroom, but how has that worked out for Sony so far? Good enough to try and make a buck or two on those who want to change the cosmetics of their game?

I can't imagine Kaz adding wings and spoiler, which cause drastic changes to your car aerodynamically, but making them purely cosmetic with his passion for realism. If they cost money maybe they will just make them single player only but I kinda doubts They will charge you for aero packages.

Body and aero parts are the only things i would care about really. We already know you can paint your car different from stock. so thats good.

so if it includes a livery editor i would also be happy becuse then i can make my car 100% personal.
but i am more of a racer so i dont really care that much, but it is definetly a big +.
I dont expect it to be in GT5. But maybe GT6.

Well, from the screen we got from TGS we know we can paint body car, rims and there's an icon showing an engine...I hope it is not merely a tuning parts icon, but something like "engine swap" like Forza3 allows to do. Also, I'd love to have a simple livery editor, since I'm pretty sure we cannot import images and logos from our PCs or edit our liveries with Photoshop...But, you know, adding a few stripes here and there would be nice as well.

Why are people still discussing livery editors? KY said they would be nice for GT6 but wont make it to GT5...

isnt he a guy with surprises??

Yeah but if he says something won't be in the game then it wont :).

If he said 'No comment' then there would be a chance of a surprise, but I'm pretty sure he said a livery editor won't make it to GT5.

track editor is already confirmed
body panel customization i think will also be in there because of an icon i saw in a screen shot that showed bumpers and skirts with a highlighted colour
livery customization is a maybe....

Yes Kaz has said that there will be no Livery Editor, but much as we had in GT2, some cars just had simple livery's. There maybe premade liverys for certain cars in GT5 that might also be found in the new Race Modification area. :)

no livery customization will be in GT5, according to Kaz himself

No, I believe Tomoholic has it right. The last direct remark I recall him making is, probably not for GT5, but if not, perhaps for GT6.

I should add that the Livery Editor is most likely going to be in GT6, along with a more comprehensive Track Creator. But Race Mod will most likely give us a few livery selections to choose from.

There will be stickers and decals, but no custom liverys

numbers, windshield banner etc

actually i think thats what the "race car" image under GT Auto stands for. i dont think its for making your car a race car. but i can be wrong. but some mods should be in there like putting on flags and stuff.
I really cant wait for GT5!!

Before we got that picture with an image of the icon Kaz mentioned that the Race Modification feature would be returning for some cars.
