This could mean that when a track is in Premium mode, that only Premium cars can race there, allowing for extensive damage and other premium features.

That makes no sense. Why would the track have any effect on the damage model of cars? We saw in of the e3 videos the ford focus rally car hit a guardrail., which didn't move. If the track had movebale parts, I would understand.

Yeah it's a bit extreme to claim them as GT2 models. However, the ones I saw from the video are CLEARLY, without a doubt, touched up GT4 models. Take a model from GT4, add a few polygons and make the curves more rounded (even this idk about...the closeup of the R8 looks horrid, the nose is not well-rounded), then throw on some higher resolution textures and port it into a graphics engine running HD and antialiasing, and you have what we're seeing in the standard cars video. Too many people think that less jaggies and better textures = different model. Those are NOT changes to the actual model, only the graphics engine displaying them and the textures wrapped around them.

@Sasuki - Wow, thanks for posting that model. Peoples' responses to it really show how little everyone knows about 3D Modelling hahaha wow.

I think PD has bigger problems than buildings.... Like 800 of the cars look like crap!!!

That's more your problem, not theirs.

In the gaming industry there are 4 categories of artists

3dartist
Rig artist
Animator
programmer

1- 3d artist makes only the models
2- Rig artist prepares the model for animation by aplying joints to every piece that will be animated
3- The animator apply animation on the rigged model
4- Programmer makes all the physics (Driving-Damage-collusion)

So doesn't that prove that just being able to do one model in a day isn't the same as getting the car game ready?
Nice work btw.

Yeah their just counting the bucks.

Don't take this part personally, but would you rather the game came as advertised, only minus the standard cars? There's no changing what's happened, so it's probably best to get over it!

Homage, fine; Padding, probably; boredom, eh? cover-up ... ??
Kazu himself admitted that the premiums are probably better suited to the next generation of consoles - is it still a cover-up, then? Stop with your sensationalism, please - you're sounding like a ten-a-penny journalist now

Oh, and 🤬 the backlash!
I doubt he would have been laughed off the stage - I saw some FAIL moments (at least in my mind) that still got an inanely enthusiastic applause... Different strokes, and all that.

EDIT:
How did I miss that pic of the main menu? Looks good! Especially like the idea of "practice" as a separate mode, almost; and it looks as though the tuning is all under one roof, together with wheels, wings (assuming these two return from GT4), oil change and car wash!

200+ premium cars should be the game as advertised and they should say as a bonus we have included 800 cars from the previous GT game, with increased visuals. Saying we have 1000 cars isn't telling the whole tale my friend, is misleading as 20% of those cars are actually in this generation of visuals(going off that video I saw) and the other 80% are somewhere just above xbox in terms of visuals(that might a stretch). So i say they state it blatantly on the packaging, or say it in press conferences. I'm just going off what I witnessed off that video about standard cars and I can't believe how low the level of detail is for those cars. If that is how they really will look, then they should up the amount of vehicles per race using standard cars, no non-sense physics, no perceivable slowdown. I mean give incentives that make having those standard cars worthwhile. You release Prologue and everyone is expecting that level of detail, so when they announce 1000 cars, why would you think that you'd be getting such a bad ratio of new cars to old? Even when they announced premium and standard, I guarantee that you didn't think that the standard cars would be so far below the premiums in visuals did you?

Hit the nail on the head, even if it is just 1 big block of text :) .

For me answer is - do not mix them in game.I mean 2 game modes - gt classic and gt premium for example.I don't want to drive standard car against premium and vice versa.

That would be terrible if it happened, but it might.

The separate game modes idea seems like the most logical to me, and I wouldn't mind at all. I cringe at the thought of a race with 8 premiums and 8 standards....

I don't see a really large difference between standard and premium cars, could anyone post 2 high res pics where you can see that? I thought the standard cars looked just fine in the trailer, it's still better than anything else on the market.

GT5 Premium > NFS: Shift/Forza Motorsport 3/etc > GT5 Standard, imo. I'm disappointed that it turned out like this with the Standard/Premium fiasco, but oh well. Graphics is not everything. I just hope that the updated physics apply to these cars as well.

More than 40 tracks with over 100 layouts (including all versions of Nurburgring – which nobody’s ever done before). That enough for you? :)

The standard cars look like they're somewhere between GTHD and GT5P-level quality externally, which is fine by me. 👍

I cannot believe that you think you can strut in here with some average looking model that you made in one day and even begin to think that is all that is involved in the production pipeline of a premium car, or even intimate that just because you can do it in one day, PD should be able to also. Now you aren't stupid and know what goes into making a premium car. So why would you even bother to make such a naive and ignorant suggestion?

I cannot believe you think that's what he was saying... he was just showing what one guy at home can do in a day. Sure it would take longer to do everything but when we have a team of pros with access to all the specialized equipment for this stuff and the crank out 200 premium cars in 6 years while he does this in one day?

The ignorants here is not coming from his post...

BTW, dreamcast sucks :p

You shut your mouth!!! You shut it right now!!! :)

That sounds good :-D

I will agree that the 1000 cars thing is misleading. However, as I said, they have been touting this standard / premium thing for nearly a year now, almost as long as we've known about 1000 (ish) cars.

What would now be "horrendous," is if this 40 tracks (100 layouts) turns out to have a similar split of standard / premium... but only because it hasn't yet been mentioned.

They've been touting the standard/premium "thing" for months, but it was always in the context of cars that would have damage vs. cars that wouldn't have damage. There was never any suggestion that the "standard" cars would just be GT4 upscales--with no cockpit--hence the outrage.

They look worse than the cars in Shift? oO
I can't believe and imagine that without any proof, are there no high res screenshots of some standard cars? I searched but I couldn't find any.

But like you said, graphics are by far not everything, that's not the reason I'll be buying the game :)

Graphics is not everything. I just hope that the updated physics apply to these cars as well.

Why shouldn't they?

Yup, the cars in Shift look fantastic. And they have interior view.

GT5 Standard = GT4 (in short).

And the physics are probably upgraded on the old standard models, as well. But you never know with PD.

And btw, about reverse lights, they will probably only be on premium cars.

People are jumping the gun here LOL

Wait until we have some clear screenshots of Standard cars before saying what looks better than them.

That video on the GT site just wasn't good enough quality to tell. Even in HD.

Agreed.

I wish people would just wait until the actual game comes out. All the fighting and arguing on here... it's saddening, somewhat. I mean, it's just a video game after all.

I actually thought of leaving once or twice ever since this cockpit fiasco. I don't take the game too seriously, but I still registered here ages back because I do indeed love it, and just wanted a bit of discussion about it. But all this arguing... it's nuts, guys.

Are you sure that wasn't just the mass assumption of your fellow GTPers, based on dodgy translations from Japanese?

I honestly can't remember. I'll admit, it never occurred to me that we wouldn't get cockpit view for all cars, though I had thought that some cars might just be ported from GT4 and touched up to include cockpit views. That said, it's not so big of a blow as some are acting it out to be. "Outrage" is almost certainly unjustified; disappointment, yes - but for that you've only yourself to blame! :dopey:

Standard cars will have the same mechanical damage as premiums, so it's probably safe to assume that they will use the same physics model. That means there is absolutely no reason not to have them share the track with premium cars; screw their superficial differences.

Yup, the cars in Shift look fantastic. And they have interior view.

Yeah but how many cars were in Shift? 67?
I suppose if GT5 only had 67 cars they would all have interiors..oh wait 200 of them do.

Are you sure that wasn't just the mass assumption of your fellow GTPers, based on dodgy translations from Japanese?

No, based on the last 4-5 years of screenshots, videos, and demos showing only premium cars. I've never seen a game company spend so long pushing a game feature, then RIGHT before release, they drop the bomb and say "oh btw, we've only been showing you 20% of the game. Here's a small clip of the other 80%, which is nowhere near the quality you expected."
