I had one "Do Not Want" - the slipstream effect. I don't think that FIAT 500s at barely 110mph should exhibit the level of tow the demo showed - it wasn't necessarily as significant as GT4's slipstreaming, but it is in excess of what occurs in reality.
And I had one major "Do Want". The AI.

Who'd have ever thought they'd hear that about a GT game?

Were there different settings that effected slipstream, because this video shows that the slipstream isn't nearly as strong as Prologue:

I don't recall there being an option in the menu for it - however, we do remember that different machines seemed to have different master attributes/settings.

In the FIAT 500 I went from 4th at Parabolica to 1st at the chicane - with the 5th and 6th AI cars coming right along with me. As soon as I was out front, I was dragging the pack along with me. It wasn't rubberbanding to the best of my ability to discern it - they were relatively easy to outbrake and I was averaging better corner speeds.

I may be on a video on my camera remarking "🤬 me, the slipstream is massive!"

We didn't see any evidence of weather, but in his discussion of the Course Maker, Kazunori did include "weather" as one of the available parameters.

In the tyre selection list, at least for the Nordschleife, there is the option "Regenreifen", wet tyres. I do hope it's there for a reason.

Hope you enjoyed your stay at Cologne and got to see at least a bit of the city.

That's a good call, and you're right, there was that option. 👍

We were planning on moping about Cologne a bit on Thursday, but the embargo meant the morning of Thursday was a bit busy for us and we spent a bit more time on the show floor.

Driver: San Francisco's pre-alpha looked pretty good and the hot Ubisoft ladies who were demonstrating it were no slouches on the game...

First off, thanks to all who posted videos and extra thanks for the candid and Translator-san shots. I found the cosplayer babes quite disturbing :D

I could never understand why people were bothered about skidmarks - until now.

The impacts are done nicely. Not so sure about car to car contact yet, but wallriding should be a matter of the past. In addition, depending on impact angle you'll spin like mad. So that's a nice punishment other than a lot of visual damage and looks quite spectacular.

Edit: I found it very hard to driver properly because of all the noise. You can only go by what you see, I have no audible clues about shifting and braking points, etc. Quite a challenge for me and surely for some others, too. Though I saw that the folks serious about racing did put in a far better second lap.

Can't compare it to GT5P, but the 458 felt more purposeful than the BMW 1, but then I played them in different setups (standard vs pro, grippier tires, etc.)

The wheels I tried were rather worn out and FFB weak, but I strongly assume that was done so folks who never had that experience weren't put off.

Have to try it on my own G25 ;)

Thanks mate. It's largely down to personal taste of course, and GT5 is very serious about depicting the cars. Replays are as always done very good. Some clever camera angles and visually "photorealistic".

But especially the Ring is famous for its changes in bright lit areas and dark shadows (depending on weather), and that wasn't that pronounced in the demo. That's what I meant by "dynamic lightning" - you don't come out of blinding light and dive into a dark corner you can barely make out. Again, that would depend on weather, etc.

It's of course all part of the signature artistic style of PD, which I do like a lot.

They have one pod in stereoscopic 3D, and there's an eyetoy camera on top of the screen. If I get lucky I see if I get a chance in trying it out.

Other than that, I noticed VirtuaTennis being in 3D. But as an spectator, you really don't want to look at the screen. Made me sick and gave me a slight headache after 5 minutes ;)

edit:

Oi, don't be too greedy ;) I was quite staggered by the amount of variety and choice featured in the demo. In addition, it's a lot o new stuff to try out. And Monza :D

So, better be off to the venue :D

are you a troll??

RAVELLRON
are you a troll??

Are you a burke?

Glad to see you safe and sound officer famine.
In your pre report you mentioned about good news regarding some of the comunitys fears.
What issue were you talking about?

Did you have ago on F1?

Before I forget.
Many thanks.

This may be a stupid question but would you do it all over again (Famine/Venari)? What would you have done differently?

What issue were you talking about?

You know, I forget. Everything's still a little bit buzzy :D

Things GT users are often disappointed by are largely out though - sound is improved, smoke is improved, horns and reverse lights work, visible damage begets mechanical damage, AI is waaaaay improved (Kaz believes the AI are equal to human counterparts - in the case of the majority of gamers, he may have a point). The biggest "down" is the lack of standard car cockpits - though they did try to implement the GTPSP variant, spending 2 months on it, after criticism earlier in the year (which is also good news - they listen keenly).

It's GT4 without GT4's faults, with improved graphics, more cars and a frickin' track maker. And 20-25% of the cars have a cockpit view, compared to 0%.

Did you have ago on F1?

No time - or space. Everything was miles apart.

I did play LBP2 and Driver: San Francisco. LBP2 is LBP but more. Driver: San Francisco is the original Driver with real cars and it looks like NFS: Shift.

We'd have liked 10 minutes more with Kazunori, for one or two more tech questions. Plus we got about 7 minutes' notice of the interview - we thought it'd be Thursday, but we'd have preferred Wednesday, then it went "2pm", "Actually he'll be ready at 1.15" and "You're here now? Good, he's available" over the course of walking briskly from the conference centre to a hotel next to it... Would have been nice to get it on video too.

Otherwise, it was all completely awesome.

With only 17 hp, or in general very low power, I think that changes in aerodinamic losses at around 100-110 Km/h should result in noticeable changes in attainable speeds. The same happens with professional bicycle riders: their top speed is noticeably affected by slipstreaming (at even lower speeds!).

Yes, the 'parting of the waves' when Famine was doing head-on crash testing with the NASCAR was impressive, second time around with closing speeds of around 500km/h they simply split like cattle.

Is there a possibility to see a vids from such a crash? Would be nice.

FIAT 500, not 500F.

In general, cars without significant downforce don't produce or take advantage of aerodynamic slipstreaming. BTCC cars will run line-astern for 20 laps at a time and only change places in corners.

So did Kaz live up to your expectations?

Did you snag an autograph?

Yes, no. That order.

Next time we meet, I'll get an autograph. I am wholly confident of both :D

wish we could get to know more about the changes in normal online races.. what will happen when people just hit other people in the race... just to get good in the corner.. just like we seen in gt5p. they always hit and dont drive normally.. wish we got some news about that

Ok, I understand. I was taking for granted that you were writing about the old one.
I hope there will be further improvements there, then.

Thanks Famine.

AI sounds good. It was in my opinion one of there weakest parts to a GT game. Sounds like they have nailed it.
B spec mode probably had a lot to do with it. If various personalitys are available in B spec. Why not randomly introduce them in races in A spec.

Oh and if it does come back to you. ( it usually does, on the toilet or eating cornflakes, that type of thing.)
please post.

One thing that I noticed on the GC was , that the field of fiew is wrong...
it is zoomed it and the outcome is = bader sense of speed

Big thanks to Venari and Famine for doing this 👍 [Edit:] And everybody else who chimed in with new info - Thanks 👍

It has certainly made the wait for November 3rd a lot easier - ........ NOT

This game is going to be so full of epic winning it's not even funny!...

Ahhh...you mean High Dynamic Range...the effect you get coming out of the tunnel at the High Speed Ring for instance. Sorry fella I thought you meant dynamic global lighting.

Thanks for uploading .That is the best looking Monza I have seen in a game before.Any comments about your experience.

You're welcome. Ehrm, well, one interesting aspect, which comes to my mind is, that these old cars have pretty awesome handling and well, the driving was definately fun and you notice that the physics improved a lot from Prologue.

Lotus Esprit on Nordschleife, me driving.

I just wanted to offer my appreciate to Famine, Venari, ItsHim, DonZonda, Alex p, and everybody else who visited the show and then took the time to convey such detailed first hand accounts of their experiences. I know how difficult it can be to stand in line for ages and finally get just a few minutes with the demo, trying to work your way through the settings (for some of you, in a foreign language), drive the cars, and trying to remember to test all the things you wanted to look for in the back of your mind, all with music pounding and people shouting in the background. There's always a sense that it goes by too quickly and there's one more thing you wanted to check. Or thirty seven.

This is the first chance many of us really have to hear what the latest build is like from one of 'our own' and through your words and videos, it gives us the chance to live vicariously and play along with you.

Kudos! Your efforts are very much appreciated. 👍👍👍:gtpflag:

Wow that is a great "Thank you" :dopey:

I was only able to capture these vids because I was there for some 4-5 hours and I found a pod with a time limit, where there were not too much people waiting, and when I drove, I just asked bystanders to film me.:D

Love to hear all of those improvements :). Especially the AI which looks highly impressive. The Standard Car cockpits is a let down but not really a big one for me and it's good to hear that they actually tried to do something :).

But just a small question for you, if I may: did KY mention anything about updating the exterior of the Standard Cars to make them smoother and a bit more detailed like adding some door handles that were previously only textures?

Thank you ! glad to hear that :)
