sweet.

Just in time to **** up my college life.

edit: oh, this needs to be moved to the GT5 forum.

I don't see that happening. 2007 is too early. The only way they could make that deadline (end of 2007) is by having around 50 cars and 10 tracks. It will take them about a month to create 1 car since the cars will be a lot more detailed.

GT4 was well over schedule, GT2 was out 2 years after GT1, GT3 was out 2 years after GT2. It's very, very possible. Anyway theres that other thread on this in the GT5 forum that needs filling.

Oh well not necessarily... not to forget that they could just increase their programmers...

Also keep in mind that the '100 times more detailed' doesn't necessarily mean just the cars. It seems that they are planning to incorporate a lot more trackside detail (ie. pit crews) and that could account for a lot of that.

Most of the textures and car models done in GT4 were first done at high resolution with a much higher poly count. I would not be shocked to see PD reuse these models with a little improvement on GT5.

I think it's entirely possible, that well see it Holiday Season 2007. Or a few months later, since they have proved the game will do well on or off the holiday season.

I dont mind when it comes out as long as they dont rush it quite simply, good things comes to those who wait...

Like GT4 eh, or not as the case may be. GT4 was very good, but not worth the 4 year wait.

oh goodness...let's not start this again :P

GT4 was good for what is was, and was on limited hardware.

despite anything anyone who has ever complained about it has said, if PD were to take the visuals down a notch in order to put in damage, better AI, or even those stupid little reverse lights everyone thinks are *so* important, you would have been turning in your beds at night trying to figure out why they would make it look worse.

Fact is, they already pushed the limites of the PS2, and GT4 wasn't going to get any better with any extra "features" as far as damage ai, or anything that would be processor related.

As far as game modes, I agree, they needed to have autocross, point to point races, and better race structure. But that's my opinion.

Heard about this on another site about 4 or 5 days ago. I hope online mode comes with it this time.

Also I hope all the tracks that get raced on by BTCC cars are in the game.

Yep, but I don't think it's good enough to warrant a 4 years+ development.

Woo..
So the con thinks GT5 is going to be GT4?

Considering Gt4 was GT3.5 and all.

I beg to differ, I do believe that GT4 was a true successor to GT3. I wouldn't go as far as to call it "GT3.5", just because it's unfair.

The game could not have gotten better visually, online was not possible (and will not happen, regardless of what PD say's, there is no way we will ever see GT online with PS2).

Their focus was on car history, and performance. Not so much car customization like other games focus on. I for one, given my taste, appreciate it, because I'm a car enthusiast, not a poser, as most people on this site are. I appreciate all cars for what they are, and learn to understand them and use them. Posers, on the other hand, wish to drive fast cars because they think they are "cool"...yet they have never gotten behind the wheel and truely expereinced speed.

I autocross regularly, twice to three times a month, and do solo track runs at the Heartland Race track about once or twice every two months. I know what it is to lose grip on your tires, etc. Most of the people on this site, however, do not, and they pose as experts, criticizing the game for things it lacks, when they have no knowledge of the topic outside of the videogame itself.

So, while most of the people on this site wish to talk about "physics" etc, they only judge physics by it's difficulty, since most of you are under 16, or even under 21 for that matter, and unable to afford a car capable of experiencing such forces. I have put much money into a 4 cylinder car, not because I couldn't afford more at the time, but because I have a passion for tuning, and challange. I would rather drive something less capable and get great times for what I have, than drive something powerful.

With that said, GT4 allowed me to do that, GT3, however, did not. So, I feel GT4 had a completely different focus from GT3, it was more similar to GT2, but with more emphasis on history and driving ability (via the Driving Missions and much improved license tests).

That's my $1.45

I could definelty see gt5 being out at the end of 2007, though I think it would be a revamped version of gt4 with a few add ons and maybe online mode.

Off topic

What do you drive, con?

I drive a 1993 Honda Prelude.

I have completely rebuild the engine, rebuilt most of the suspension (though I have not yet installed my Tien Flex performance suspension, for reasons of location, and I refuse to install it until I get my next car so I can garage this one). Engine rebuild consists of:

Higher Comp Pistons
New Water Pump/Oil Pump
New valves/springs/seals
Adjustable Cam Gears
Port Matched IM
Light Weight Flywheel.

Engine Bolt ons:
Greddy Header
Greddy SP Exhaust
Test Pipe
AEM Short Ram Intake (with K&N Filter)

I have removed the A/C and PS from the car, as well as stripped down most of the sound deadening material from the inside (the carpet remains in the car though). I also have performance motor mount inserts to give better traction from gear shifts, it prevents wheel hop and loss of traction.

In the future I plan to redo the body (I bought it for a low price, it was riced out, and I plan to return it to stock). Also I will eventually rebuild the entire valve train using JUN components. Following that I will have a limited slip differential installed on my transmission as well as a high performance clutch.

That's about the run down of it.

Why hasn't this discussion been continued in the other thread? :dunce:

GT5, 2007? ah that will be 2008 then.... always gets pushed back!

Anyway last thing I saw on GT5 was a video that looked a lot like GT4 but with around 22 cars on track.... I think Improved AI will be on the cards for GT5 to be honest, yes graphics will be good but physics will be at the heart of the improvments.

Does any of you think PD will accelerate the programming of GT5 after a possible success of the XBUG360 ??.Anyway , I suppose GT4 will be completely dethroned by PGR3 in the graphics category.

No, If PS3 comes out spring or summer 06 then holiday 07 is perfect for a release. But GT5 needs some kind of innovation and not just 1million polygon cars and 100million polygon tracks. But you can not trust PD to deliver any promises untill the game is complete. I'm still waiting for the drag race mode fom GT2 and drift mode from GT4.

Thats a lot of work you've done, what are your goals?

Well, in the near future I'm going to rebuild the engine once again, with even higher comp pistons (right now I'm running 11:1, but I want to bump it up to 12:1, JUN pistons, but I'll never be able to drive it on pump gas again, which is why I'll need to get another car). Eventually I'm going to get the car gutted, caged, and replace a lot of my body panels with CF (pretty much this will only be the doors, which are going to cost me a pretty penny).

My wish is to compete with some higher powered cars in Solo II (autocross) and try to set some track records for 4 cylinder engines at the Heartland Racetrack in Topeka KS (the SCCA headquarters for the USA).

The next car I'm eye'ing is actually a newer civic, not for race application, but for gas mileage, I'm even looking into hybrids.

But I'd say I still have another 10 grand to go before my car is where I want it to be, so I'd say another four years and I'll have it complete and stuck in the garage used only for track application, I've got my fingers crossed, so hopefully that's how it'll turn out.

Just a note on hybrids.. be sure to look at the price vs the mileage. Most people don't realize that you pay so much more for a hybrid, that it can actually take several years before it actually becomes "cheaper" to drive. Yeah, you use less gas, but you spend a few extra thousand to get there.. got to make up that difference somehow.

In the long run, it can often be cheaper for you to get a "normal" car, even if it has less mileage.. the extra gas money is offset by the lower price of the car.

I don't care when they are going to release the game. As long as they make the game good and how we want to play it that's fine. I can even wait till 2010.

I have a question: what would you describe as 'innovation'? I imagine most people would immediately say "Damage" (something GT5 is supposed to have) or "Bodykits". But those have been showcased in other games already, is that considered innovative? Despite what you may think about PhotoMode, that is innovative, nothing like it has ever been seen, as far as I know.

And while we're on the topic, what innovation has PGR shown? I admit I haven't played the games, but they seem to be much of the same with improved graphics.

Why don't they make the AI learn over time to how you race, and when there not racing the AI watches by the side. Or AI have there own scouts to watch how we race and then report back to the AI, which allows them to get more info on how we race.

If only you understand exactly how advanced that is, and how extremely difficult that would be to code. AI is not that far yet. In games at least. Without an extra billion dollar budget, we'll never see AI that learns, watches and observes.

Forza might make you "think" that it's possible, but all forza does is take you through level's of AI that begin poor and improve over time through accuracy on race line, not driving skill.
