AHAHAHAH! That made my day. That should be the official "what KY thinks of FM3 gif".

And I just thought of what the spaces could contain...

1. A BD disc of the game
2. A BD disc of all sorts of special behind the scenes footage and a boatload of GTTV content (ie Top Gear, SGT, Video Option PD created content, trailers etc)
3. (I can't believe no one thought of this) The GT5 sound track on CD. It was really cool in MGS4 and it would be a great addition for GT5.

Can you imagine if GT5 was split up into 3 Blu Ray discs for each NASCAR, WRC, and road racing?

Though I think this idea is improbable, it might be the biggest game ever! Just imagine a full disc dedicated to each. It would be....mind-boggling.

I agree

Disc 1 - Dual Layer BD of GT5
Disc 2 - Behind the scenes/making of/GT @ the Nurburgring 24 hr etc
Disc 3 - Gran Turismo 5 soundtrack, probably on multiple CDs that fit in one case

This special editon would probably cost around $90

Do not be surprised if WRC and NASCAR come only as a tease on GT5 game-disc (few cars and tracks), while full actuall content of both venues - as well as some other licenced venues or whatever - become available only as a separate DLC for intrested players.

This is pure speculation from my behalf, but I see it as a most probable.

This is a very plausible scenario. PD has said over 20 locations. If you add together main stay original GT tracks and the already revealed tracks your almost at 20 locations already.

A NASCAR mode or a WRC mode with just two or three courses for each wouldn't be very satisfying.

Kaz himself said not all stock cars would be in GT5 from the start, hinting at DLC.

The Game on one Blu-Ray

One or more documentaries on a second Blu-Ray

A Detailed Manual that goes in to great depth about driving and tuning.
Agreed. 👍

Why not? 1000 car models ~30mb(or more) each, 20 locations, some cgi videos, uncompresed music. You can fill the 50gb easy...
I think your estimates are a little off. ;)

If each car model were 30MB, that would mean the models for 16 cars would take up 480MB, leaving only 32MB total for the track, game code, and operating system. I'm pretty sure the OS is about 24MB these days, meaning only 8MB left for the track and game code.

I'd be surprised if car models were more than 20MB, and 10-15MB seems far more likely.

definitly will ship for more than 70$, you cant expect 10 hours gameplay in uncharted to be the same price as 200/300h for GT5.
No, the standard edition will be $60, just like every other game. The collector's edition (which may be what's shown in the video…) will probably be $80, but could go as high as $100. (The latter seems more likely if amar's wind means buying the CE gives you a free pass for all future DLC.)

Speaking as a Software Developer - I very much doubt that a single car takes much more than a single megabyte.

That'll be me then, :)

If that is how the packaging will look it is probably the limited/collectors(whatever they call it). I don't know if the SLS will be on the cover though, it could just be a prototype to show Mercedes how it would look on the cover.

I just watch the picture in detail and could notice than only the first box has the GT5 logo, so I think is:

Disc 1: The game
Disc 2: Digital car's manual with the specs about everycar in the game, NASCAR and WRC pilots' bios and GT Museum
Disc 3: Behind the scenes about the GT5 Development

I guess I'm the only one more excited that they use haptic tools to design the game?
My uni project is using haptics, so its awesome to see that it is actually used somewhere!

Now that would be one very big manual.

Would all that info fit on a BR disk? If so it could be a possibility.

Just for comparison: There was a PS3 model, which had 10GB less storage on the built in Hard Drive than a dual layer BD. This pretty much shows the dimensions we are talking about here.

Considering you can fit an entire encyclopedia on a CDROM I don't think car manuals would have a problem fitting on a 50GB BD.

Cool beans! Then a complete manual on every car and track sounds reasonable to me! That would actually be very helpful to someone like me!

My take:

  1. Red Disc - Gran Turismo 5 [with all the trimmings: GT mode, Arcade mode, NASCAR, WRC, PTP, Drag Racing, Drift, etc.]
  2. Blue Disc - Bonus disc featuring interviews, making of featurettes and a detailed assessment of how the game came together over the past 5 years
  3. Black Disc - Extras. Keychain, manual possibly or some other limited edition content

And we don’t know for sure they ARE three discs. Might be two discs and a slipcase for a keyring, photos, souvenir book etc. In fact, I’m thinking the black one isn’t a disc case at all. Game’s in the blue one, additional disc video content on the red, and the black is the goodie pack.

Good thinking. 👍

I have to disagree with that. Yamauchi-san has been boasting about how great NASCAR will be in GT5 and I would think that WRC will be just as impressive.

Look at Rally racing in past Gran Turismo games - specifically GT4. It was more than anyone thought would be included beyond the regular GT Mode.

They wouldn't have fought to get the NASCAR and WRC licenses for such a long time, just to barely use them at all. :sly:

Did any see the part where Kaz was driving the SLS in the cockpit view on the Nurb? It was orgasmic to say the least.

I think the Disks are gonna be arcade for blue, GT Mode for red, and something extra/special for the black disk. It's like when The first 2 GTs were released with Arcade and Simulation on different disks.

Why are people still saying the red or blue will be GT5 when it's not only been pointed out but is clear to see in the screen caps posted that the black case has Gran Turismo 5 written on it. The other two cases have blank spines. to me that suggests that whatever they will be used for hasn't been finalised yet, that box was nothing more than a part of a promotional display or it could be a GT5 plus PSEye package and thoes empty cases could simply be acting as fillers in this instance where in the shops the PSEye would be there. That said, looking at it again it's a bit small for the PSEye perhaps.

If the standard game does come then I'd guess we're going to get a big manual like GT1 that came with a full driving guide and info on how certain car dynamics work. Only bigger than GT1's and that there will be two disks with the second being bonus content (video's and info etc, maybe an episode of TopGear bundled with the game). It could be anumber of things but the black case is definitely GT5 ;).

This was only in GT2.

If I pay for an episode of Top Gear, which is free on BBC everyday, I would swiftly break it in 1/2. That show is a train wreck!

ONLY the black one is the game! It would be ridiculous to split it when you have as much space as you want.
One is certainly a manual/book sort of thing.
Last one could be anything from soundtrack to bonus material,or all of it together, but that could fit on a dvd easily and remember how much more expensive a blu-ray is than the dvd,so I think only the game will come on a blu-ray.

IDK if anyone has already noticed this, but the SLS is already on that cover in that video. So unless that's not the final coverart or wasn't the game at all, the SLS is the cover car for GT5.

As a texture artist, I would LOVE to see how they got the texture files alone under a single megabyte. There's no sign of them being exactly low resolution, and I do not believe it's possible to re-arrange the skins to that degree whilst still keeping the cars that detailed....

Throw in some more skins for the lower LOD cars (usually about 6, each half the size of the last), as well as lower LOD models, and the size climbs pretty quickly.

I would much rather have that on the normal game disc. And being essentially words and some pictures, there is no reason it shouldn't be able to be.

This could just be a special edition case for the game, like the one BlazBlue had.
Blazblue really only had two cases and it came with four discs. If you preordered it, you get the artbook.
