Would it be just the game like we have now or would it include some extras?

To me that means a new patch + DLC (maybe) coming before 9th September.

Do they press new discs for Platinum releases? Id imagine the most to expect is a patched up dics on level of what we have today.

I think the platinum edition is just a re-release. Like you see with some other games "playstation classics" etc...

I don't think it will include any new content, or even the latest patches. But how would I know? heh. that's just my guess.

What they do in the US a lot is right away reduce the price and slap a Greatest Hits sticker on the existing copies and then eventually produce new ones with the actual red cases. No added content or patches. We will see.

@Darren: the announcement is old but the date, if accurate, isn't.

They usually don't change any of the data on the disc for a Platinum repressing unless there are things like game-breaking bugs present. Usually the reprints will have monochrome disc art and manuals to keep costs down though.

edit: yeah you see the thing where the original pressings are discounted to match the Platinums here in Yurp as well though from a consumer (my) point of view it doesn't look like they put off pressing the Platinums until the old ones are gone, more like stores don't order the Platinum re-pressings until they're out of normal copies while stores that have sold all out will already have the Platinum editions.

Yeah I think you are right. They get the platinum/greatest hits copies out to the stores that need it and the ones with backstock do the stickers.

Platnium editions
Are not old BDs they are freshly pressed BD with brand NEW BD IDs and they have new shipment IDs as well on the BD printing.

Because it only makes to much sense.

It's not hard to figure out that GT5 Platinum Edition will ship with version 1.11/1.12 software.

Only speculation I see that's warranted is the Seasonal Races being available offline. Personally, I see it happening.

Platinum/Greatest Hits version of games are usually the original game just repackaged. You and others may be thinking of Game of the Year editions of games that come with DLC but that's usually through download, not on the disc.
And using the words 'only makes sense' when talking about GT 5 can be very dangerous. :sly:

So, in other words, your guess is as good as mine.:ouch:

I would say mine is a little more logical but sure, my guess is as good as yours. :ouch:

I would wager quite heavily that the Platinum release will come with at least version 1.09 or 1.10.

Having new customers doing the install would be one thing, but having them do the install *and* download some 1.5GB of updates straight away would be an absolute nightmare and create (another) terrible first impression: even worse than the one we got nine months ago.

I'm sure Sony wouldn't want that again.

Pretty good chance considering when they released the greatest hits version of GT5:P, it came with Spec-III update.

Also, that date looks pretty close to when they might be shutting down the GT5:P servers. I hope shutting it down will make enough room on the servers for leaderboards in GT5.

It will have the latest patch, as of pressing, but it won't have any additional content, bar maybe those chromeline or stealth cars... due to the game having no additional content, bar the chromeline and stealth cars.

Id be interested if it includes the stealth cars I dont have.
I got the CE, and the stealth F1 with my preorder, but I really want the stealth SLS.

It may bring about a spec 2, but that would normally be about it for a platinum. They usually don't come with dlc, unlesss it was free.

Ps, those move editions were updates, not dlc.

Giving a game Platinum status usually means it has reached it's sales peak and now is leaning towards stability, in other words : The game is already old by industry standards.

It can also point out that a newer product is on the pipeline, it could be a DLC pack, another title or just nothing. Sony reduced the PS3 asking price too, maybe it's just some more agressive pricing policy and they're reducing the price of premium titles to go along with it.

The fact that matter is : Despite the decent sales figures, GT5 hasn't accomplished it's goal as a console seller. It will be quite hard to build hype on the community for the next game since Gran Turismo is not the benchmark anymore but hopefully, PD can excel again and give us a game as good as GT4 was when it came out. Here's hoping.

It wont have sold consoles in the Americas regions alone of the Back of GT5. Thats because they never planned the marketing to be that way in those areas.
In other areas GT5 was pushed to sell consoles including the Signature edition and Console bundles in SCEE and SCEJ. Not just the clearance 160GB old models but it was the 320GB model.
Other Platinum titles are replacing GT5 bundled with the 320GB model the 160GB has gone out of stock finaly on most sites. So there may have been a price cut but you can't get the 160GB brand new on most sites in the UK.
