Giving a game Platinum status usually means it has reached it's sales peak and now is leaning towards stability, in other words : The game is already old by industry standards.

It can also point out that a newer product is on the pipeline, it could be a DLC pack, another title or just nothing. Sony reduced the PS3 asking price too, maybe it's just some more agressive pricing policy and they're reducing the price of premium titles to go along with it.

The fact that matter is : Despite the decent sales figures, GT5 hasn't accomplished it's goal as a console seller. It will be quite hard to build hype on the community for the next game since Gran Turismo is not the benchmark anymore but hopefully, PD can excel again and give us a game as good as GT4 was when it came out. Here's hoping.

GT4 is very much more worst, it didn't work at all on my PS2 (slim model) GT4 is the single biggest mistake in gaming history i've seen. If it would work, i'd probably rated it as one of the better PS games, but i won't find out how good GT4 actually is i'm afraid, so -imo- it can't get more horrible than GT4.
But if they would upgrade GT4 till GT5 level (that is enhance the graphics & give cars interior view) i'd be happy but i guess i'm not a big enough audience for PD to get payback on such investment -LOL-
Beside my disappointment wit GT4 (sorry i had to mention it) i think your right tho.
And my best guess would be that GT5 wasn't ready when sony decided it couldn't be postponed any longer and PD was forced to finish GT5 in such a hurry that the quality was dodgy and the content rather small.
Imagine having no internet and buying GT5 ! That says enough.
Those things can (& must -imo-) be addressed in any future edition of GT.
I'd rather wait a bit longer and buy a game with the quality GTA or HalfLife have, perhaps PD should expand there workforce to achieve such. Or else we could be waiting for several years for the next PD game which has GT3 quality, or the next GT could become like dukenuke'm:scared:
Anyway you look at it you can't expect to keep everybody 100% happy, but you can't sell products like what GT5 was either, and i hope PD/sony learned from it and give GT the QA that it deserves.
Greetings stano666:)

Another Wednesday has been and gone With only 2 weeks till the supposed release date.
The big sites still don't have it listed.
That leaves only one more EU distro "update wednesday" left.
Normal copies still sell for £29.99 brand new with these top sites.

Anyone know if the Platinum version might have any of the updates on it?

I don't have a land-line so my GT5 has not been update once. It's a fun game, but it'd be interesting to see what updates are in store.

^^ I believe it will be already patched on disc, (it would at least make sense) not sure which release though.

Wow, never heard about that problem before, perhaps someone here are the boards would be helpful but still, GT4 was by far the best PS2 game to me.

I don't think that GT5 is an unfinished product, many improvements were made from GT5P to it, mostly on physics and graphics engine and I believe these modifications are worth the price of the game.

jagdrag77, I am not sure - but I believe you can update your game if someone sends you the update files on a USB stick.

I really wish I didn't spend £130 on this game, money like that is hard to come by for someone my age.

I should've left all the extra items that just sit under my bed, and bought this version.

It's actually not possible to patch games via USB sadly, only system firmware.

You were a victim of the hype. Hope you learned the lesson :sly:

I certainly did.

With the cash I would've had left I could've got DIRT 3 and F1 2010.

From all my games the more expensives were two which were 30 euros each. Release day buys are pointless to me, money doesn't fall from trees unfortunately:grumpy:

If the Platinum version has a few updates, or even just the first one, would I be able to play my current save file on the new updated game?

I'd hate to start over again.

15 GBP =25 USD?

If I knew that it were going to be this cheap, I should've waited until this year to buy it:yuck:

I don`t believe you, you would not have waited.

I bought it for 50 Euro`s, well actually i got it as a present. But knowing what i know now, even if the game was 100 Euro`s. It`s worth it!

I picked up a copy of the UK Platinum Edition of GT5 today (Got it a day early).

I can confirm that it's the same identical disc that comes with the original version. No updates.

So that kills that speculation :P

Perfect timing just before forza comes out me thinks, GT5 will get mentioned a lot again when forza is out and with a price tag of £15 compared to forza's full RRP might have a change a stealing some sales... or maybe it's just a coincidence and i'm reading too much into it.

what are you smoking mate? GT5 is a million times better than 4.

And let's hear your thoughts on which game is the latest benchmark. And dont give me forza. I have heard that one before

This...this is a joke....right...?

That is so ridiculous. Hell, I think I would have bought the platinum version if it had the updates on to save me updating when my PS3 dies. What a nightmare for all those new customers, going through that update cycle.

I think the update size is a lot less than individual ones added together. You just get upgraded straight to the latest version.
