Gran Turismo 5's most annoying glitch

I'm not big on being a complainer, whiner, crier, etc.. But this one glitch is a killer. You can be in any room, doing any kind of racing, or even be just driving around before a race, and for no good reason your tire audio just goes away. This may not seem like a big deal, but when you are having close racing, you want to know when your tires are starting to slip. Not only does it disturb judgement, it also lowers grip levels by a small amount. It is exactly live driving on a 2% surface area track. The only way to fix this glitch is to leave the room and re-join. Which kind of sucks when you are hosting a great room and it needs to shut down solely because of a petty glitch such as this one. This needs to be fixed, it is not just me experiencing it either. Months ago it would happen rarely, and I wouldn't think much of it.. But now it happens much more frequently, and I have many people I am racing with ending up with the same problem..
Anyone know any ways around this without leaving the room? Who else has had this problem..

Update: Problem seems to be fixed with the latest update.

Its a connection issue, either you or someone that just joined. Other than starting a new room, I haven't found a cure.

Happens to me from time to time, and I'm hardwired to the modem.

One bad connection spoils the bunch.

Makes me feel like Helen Keller when it happens.

My biggest grievance is that the power limiter on a few cars seems to be messed up. Take a Peugeot 207 and limit the power from 100,0 % - 99,9 and you will see what I mean. Huge drop in performance which seems impossible to explain. Also, the seasonal time and drift trial events do not affect maintenance aspects such as oil and dirt.

This is not a glitch so much as a very annoying bit of programming... the paint chips. ACK! I don't mess with painting cars very often, but when I do it's an exercise in patience and tolerance, because it takes at least a minute just to scroll halfway through my list of paint chips in the default view. Just as an example, I have around 50 "black" chips and they are scattered all over the list in groups of one, two and three. Why aren't they all in one place with 50 of this item available? Yes I know I could sort them by item name, manufacturer, hue, etc. and that helps little. The way the chips are listed is pure nonsense. I don't need to see indivudual paint chips "one white. one white. two white. one white. three white." Maybe it's just me, but this is extremely annoying.

An embarrasing programming flaw, same problem with racing gear items.

No, gt5s most annoying glitch is the black screen glitch. This, is a minor issue that would probably take a few minutes to fix.

This makes me feel like Stevie Wonder because I'm usually singing while I'm black-screen glitching.

I've also compared the feeling to Christopher Reeves. Drive like Superman all you want, without tire sounds you'll have no idea whats going on down below.

It's not exactly a glitch, but the most annoying thing to me is waiting up to 300 days to get from GT Auto back to the GT Life menu. Actually, all menu-to-menu transitions are like that. It feels like I am trying to play BF3 on a 90mhz pentium from 1995.

I'm tempted to say that I'd not have many complaints about the game if the menu transitions weren't so horrible; for me, the menu problems seriously amplify the irritation of the other problems I see with the game. All I can think while I'm waiting is, "This is outrageous...I'm going to die of thirst by the time this is done...WHY IS THE GAME SHIPPED WITH X, Y, AND Z ALL BEING WRONG?"

I doubt I'd have time for that thought process if we could get through the game menus in a reasonable fashion.

Agreed!

I can't drive with it gone. I don't race with music, I have to listen to the car to get my shift points right and hear what the tires are doing in the corners to adjust my line, etc. No tire noise = might as well drive with the game on mute. :yuck:

You say that like its a bad thing.:) GT5 will make a complainer out of most. Look what its done to you lol..Welcome to the whine side young padawan.

Yeah that bug can be a pain once you notice it. Besides not telling you when the tires are being worked hard it takes away from the little realism there is. I don't know if they will ever get online fully sorted out.

this came after 2.06 patch, you car also gets muted while driving close to other cars, PD needs to fix this with the following update or I'm done with this game for good

I'm not getting the muting when other cars are nearby anymore - maybe it's been fixed.

Apparently this has more to do with your sound settings in-game more than anything.
People have been changing to surrond or vice versa and playing with the environment options and it seems to work.
Personally, I changed to surround using only my TV speakers and it made an improvement.

I feel the same way, the menus are ridiculously slow to load, I usually start to go into a rage and keep repeating "hurry the f@%^ up while I wait for it to load. I even have the game data installed which is supposed to speed up loading times, I think was faster the very first time I switched menus, just one time it loaded fast and then it was back to slooooooooow. And all the other nonsense just adds to it, it takes forever to buy a used car, you have to click buy, then yes, then it has a stupid screen where your car drives forward, then it asks if you want to drive it, then it says congratulations you have another paint chip, then you press ok, then the game saves...... 5 hours later you can finally drive your new car.

Hmm. Exiting back to GT Life always take a big amount of time when your connection is slow, because the game always synchronises itself with the servers, sees if there are new gifts etc. So try to sign out of PSN and play the game offline for some time - does it improve menu loading times? If so, I'd recommend either upgrading your connection somehow or sign out whenever you mess around in the menus for a longer time (buying and tuning cars or such).

I'm not getting muting at all...

I don't as well. I had this immediately after 2.06, than went to sound options and changed to small theatre, done. No more sound problems since.
While I watch GT5 in full HD on a PC screen, I use my external stereo for the analog sound output. So it might be due to the differences between people's systems that some have sound problems and some not.

I still don't agree with GT5 doing this servers caper though. After all, other games use servers too and don't slow the game down to an unplayable mess. There should be a "Sync Servers" option in the settings menu. Would save a lot of grief. I have 2 PS3s (One in the living room) and when I want to play online I use the PS3 in the living room but it's still a hinderance.

For me it is when people can't see one or some of the cars on track, I hear people complaining about this all the time and have this problem from time to time myself. It seems like a major stuff up to me, the other night I herd one guy say he could only see three on track out of the nine that were actually there. Then the next race he could see all the cars again.

The difference might be that PD's servers are apparently all in-house. In Japan. That means appreciable latency based on the distance alone for Europe etc., then there are all the hops through the various routers, slowing things down even more.
Disabling the internet connection through the XMB does speed up some menu transitions, at least it certainly gets rid of the temporarily frozen cursor after transitioning. I don't know why GT5 has to phone home so damned often.

Speeding up / streamlining the menu interface, on top of removing / improving the connection checking, would be a great step for GT5's UI. Regional servers are another option, but that's a logistical nightmare in terms of (server, not necessarily game) updates etc.

For those playing with the surround mix on stereo speakers, you're missing half the sound field. Unless your stereo system can down-mix multichannel sources, all you'll be able to hear is what is in front of you in the game.

Lots of melodrama around in this thread - 'an unplayable mess'...seriously?

For me the only slight annoyance would be that the paint chip sample colours are sometimes way off in tone and hue from what actaully comes out on the example.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Doesn't really bother me per say, as I paint everything possible in Hemi Orange so I know what i'm getting into.

"Unplayable mess"... oh well.
Like Griffith500 said, it's a long way to Japan depending on your own location, especially if your connection isn't the fastest.

And there are certain games on PS3 which frequently give me error messages about server connections when going to the menus or at least ending up in unacceptable loading times, one of them being Need for Speed Hot Pursuit which should have a pretty big amount of servers around the world...
Not to mention TDU2, but that's completely Atari/Eden Games' fault.

This, it's the most annoying thing for me too. Then again, it's not up to PD fixing this, in most cases it's a problem with the users having incompatible connections types or other problems.

Seems logical as the output for 4 speakers is half missing when using a stereo. Still, I'm more satisfied with the small theatre option than I was before using living room, so I'll keep it until it gets changed/fixed. Also, I don't feel like I'm missing out sound when somebody drives in front of me, though I haven't spent much attention to that.

If I need to record how slow my game runs I will. I timed 15 minutes for Main Menu>GT Life and then it didn't even connect to the server, I know it's my problem for having a slow connection but it is not as slow as GT makes it seem.

Fair point - I withdraw the melodrama comment then.
