Gran Turismo 7’s Servers Struggle Ahead of Manufacturers Cup [Updated: Fixed]

Updated (8 June): Polyphony Digital has issued a statement to say that a server fix has been applied, with players on the forums reporting a better experience in both Daily Races and the first round of the Manufacturers Cup. The original article continues below:

poor servers right now 😬

It has been seen in a few videos of known GT7 content providers that the servers are becoming unstable. I am in the NA region and during the past week, the Toyota Gazoo races, Race C in the dailies, and etc. Have been suffering lag glitches, I have seen and experienced this when ALL of the players signal bars drop to RED one bar, all at the same time! and if it does not reset quickly, it will guarantee "unexpected error" coming up and you get dropped from race with LOSS of DR points.

I have gone deep into Polyphony Digital's code to discover what the problem might be, I think I discovered it.

<div class="topic-group">
<h2 class="name">Online Server Status</h2>
<p class="value">The server is operating normally.</p>

The issue is with the last line of code. I have spent a few hours coming up with two different patches:
primary hotfix
<p class="value">The server is not operating normally.</p>
alternate patch
<p class="value">The server is operating abnormally.</p>

With any luck PD will see this and update the code.

It's got to be software based if we have multiple servers in all zones ( NA, EURO, AISA, etc..) going redbar at same times....

PD will fix the issue if people stop playing. Once player participation drops, they have to address it. If you continue to play in sport mode with unstable servers then you are simply saying to PD you don't mind if the game isn't working correctly.
The reason I will not do any Daily Races until the servers work properly.

Where's the +2 when you need it? Give that person a cookie... or two!

Same thing here, Netherlands. Thought I was the problem, but it's bad. Got kicked out of race with an error, and other connection semenly lost, for then the cars to shift around into place again!
Yep, haven't been able to complete a race since monday evening.

The problem is you kinda have to enter a race to know whether the servers work or not...

I just got D/C from the first Manu race, but someone else reported it was fine. There's just no way to know atm.

It's so painful seeing how far Kaz/PD has fallen with GT7. It's like they can't be bothered anymore with the franchise and just doing the absolute minimum to keep it running. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut costs and moved the servers to a cheaper location somewhere.

I'm a hard-core Gran Turismo fanboy, was lucky enough to meet Kaz in Sydney 2020 (Shout out to Tidgney for getting me backstage for the whole weekend!).
We were both chain smokers, & I got to chat with him a few times thanks to my broken N5 level Japanese.
Back then he was super passionate both about the game, players and the Esports series (though he did complain about how much money they lose for each live event).
I'd like to believe he still is.

I know this much: GT Sport was budgeted to cost $50 million US, but ended up blowing out to about $80 million.
Can you imagine how much GT7 cost to develop? My guess would start at easily twice that, probably more.
A lot of people seem to think Kaz has free reign regarding the development of Gran Turismo, but Polyphony Digital is 100% owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Kaz is just the CEO of PD.
Everyone knows the head of SIE, Jim Ryan is all about $ & the bottom line. Kaz & PD don't seem to have the autonomy they used to have.

Herman Hulst, SIE 2IC, seems to be very active in the games development going by his Twitter feed. Plus you've got the Movie coming up as well.

The saddest part is during GT Sport & the GT Academy days, Kaz & PD communicated frequently with the players, especially the finalist regulars. Ever since GT7 was released, Kaz has basically ghosted the whole community. The very few people who do know anything don't say anything (I'm assuming NDA'S).
This total lack of communication between the playerbase and PD is ridiculous.

But because no one is talking, we don't know what the real deal is. I can imagine Kaz being the typical Japanese businessman & letting all the blame fall on him. But we just don't know... no one, Kaz, Jim or Herman are saying anything, so we don't know who to really blame or what's going on.

Everyone is in the dark, and the silence simply isn't good enough imo.

Sorry for the long rant. I'm just really disappointed to see the current state of a franchise I'm super passionate about. Even with all the improvements & updates since release, if I summed up my personal experience of GT7 in one word from release until now, it's this: Disappointment.

I personally don’t think it’s a Gran Turismo problem, but a PSN problem in general
I’ve been kicked off of PSN several times this week and I know it’s not my internet because I can still watch YouTube
Plus someone said in the Daily Races thread that the servers seem to be behaving themselves today, so idk

They are not, saw a live stream from EERIEISNT (Rory Alexander) and the bars dropped down to 1 red and in the end he got disconnected, with An Unexpected Error Has Occurred CE-210381 message.

I am reading about problems only from GT7, not other games. I don't know in other countries but in Italy we have server problems also during daily races.

Gran Turismo 7’s Servers Struggle Ahead of Manufacturers Cup

In a severe case of unfortunate timing, Gran Turismo 7’s online multiplayer servers seem to be experiencing multiple issues across all regions — with the start of the official 2023 Gran Turismo World Series Manufacturers Cup just hours away...
I had the same problem in France yesterday. Sony doesn t say anything, shameful
