doing a custom dirt race with a non 4wd road car is just torture on a long technical track, a jump early on caused ai to pinball to each other causing a few yellow flags.
If you have the VW Desert racer it's pretty cool. I tried it a few times. I'm compiling some best practices from my F1 races. I think we have misunderstood how to set up the AI races.
 
Oh man, I had the BEST experience last night with Reggie. Sorry for the novel, but you need to know what happened.

So, the context, I was at Nurb GP and the front runners (Senna, Berger, Patrese) all got into it in T1. During the first lap, Mansell and Prost both ended up with damage and had to pit (on a side note, I wonder if the game recognizes these names. Mansell is always doing dumb stuff). Anyway, 5 of the top drivers were taken out, and as luck would have it, literally, JULIAN BAILEY was leading ahead of Jean Alesi.

Then, we had a power flash 😒. I had no choice but to restart the race, however, given what happened in the previous race, I disqualified the Mclaren and Williams teams as well as Alain Prost, and myself. Then, I moved everyone up the order with those DQ'd drivers removed. This time, Alesi was first and Bailey was second. Given the results of the previous race, I decided to invert Bailey and Alesi at the end of the race. Stefan Johansson in the Footwork ended up with his first point of the season, and he would start 11th at the RBR (this is important).

Since I use the previous race results for the following race's starting grid, this really shook things up. I set up the grid with the two McLarens, the two Williams, Prost, and myself, at the back.

Up until this race, no AI driver who started lower than 2nd ever won a race, and no AI driver positioned lower than 3rd during the race has ever come back to win. Stefan Johannson, in an underpowered Footwork, made some magic. As I've mentioned, I try to set these up like their real world counterparts, do the Footwork Porsche is down about 20hp to most cars, and down 70hp to the Ferrari and McLaren. It's only advantage is that the real car had one of the first semi-auto boxes in 1991. Even McLaren still had an H pattern box. So, the Footwork is allowed to use the "Normal" transmission. Still, not much of an advantage. I should add, the Ferrari also has the "normal" transmission, as the 643 had a semi-auto box.

Update - I tried to apply the same methods to the other car/race type, but Reggie's bad habits are more pronounced, killing all the fun. None the less, here is what I have found to be the important bits for fun races and this works for both Reggie and Sophy.

  1. Get yourself a random number generator. I use one that is literally called "Random Number Generator" and it can give you as many results as you need.
  2. Randomly set the anti-roll bars to a number between 1 and 10, and make them different front to back. I know, this isn't the best for handling, but that is the point. It makes each car different and creates this minor errors in the AI. Sometime they are loose, sometime they go wide, etc. It causes them to take different lines, and varies the race.
  3. Find an acceptable range for the Initial Torque for the adjustable differential, and randomly set that. For instance, for the F3500, the range is 5-15. Again, it's enough to alter the behaviour of the cars slightly.
  4. Performance points should be within 1% range for any car. If you have balanced your cars, go back and give them a little more or a little less, but only 0.5% more or less (1% total range). Again, it's enough for variety, but not a balance breaker.
  5. For the race set up, weak boost (obviously), real off track grip, real slipstream, heavy damage, and strong shortcut penalties. I also have flag rules on, and car contact penalties on.
  6. Give yourself rules (like no restart)
  7. Track the results in a spread sheet, like a season. A series of races play out differently than one might think.
  8. Lastly, for the F1 series, one thing that really changes things is the mis of transmissions. Some use the Semi-race (to emulate the H pattern 6 speed) while others have the "normal" to emulate a sequential box, and some front runners get the full race transmission to emulate teams with more money (Ferrari, Williams). You might want to use this strategy with other cars as well. Balance them first, then swap the transmission. I will experiment with this.

I started readjusting my DTM race set up this morning.

As for my 1991 Formula 1 season, the mid season shake up from the German GP changed everything. Senna could not catch a break and he tied for 2nd overall with Patrese. Jean Alesi won the driver's Championship, and Williams won the constructor's. Prost, who started off the season with a win, faded through the year, but unlike Senna, he did slowly make his way back to the front and finished the season with his second win.

As for me, in 1991, I ran with Ligier for the second year (random selection for an alphabetic list) and I finished 5th overall again. I've started the 1992 season with a new team...

I've tried a few times, but Reggie just can't match Sophy with anything other than the F3500. With the F3500, Reggie is WAY better than Sophy. With everything else, Sophy leads the way.

If anyone are looking to build as accurate a GT3 grid as can be, the GT3 Revival series have the cars. It’s set to debut with exactly 20 cars. Only the 997 Cup S and 997 GT3 R are not in GT7, but should be doable with the RSR swap for the 997 GT3 ‘09.

Fun fact, you can add the livery first, then add the widebody. You can't add a regular livery to a widebody (or vice versa) but you can change your car to a widebody and maintain the livery.
You can actually with a workaround!
 
I'm not good in high downforce cars. F1 looks intriguing but us normies can't deal with it. So i you guys want to present your settings for DTM/Touring Car Championships I'd be very interested.

This grid is simply amazing. I use it regularly and it provides a great fun challenge with Sophy. Thanks you, @Gingerale for sharing it!
 
Grid #1 of Clubman Cup Plus 2026 is complete. Each car is tuned to 700PP on RH tires. Most cars here make use of the engine swaps added over the course of 2025 and even as late as the previous update. Spoiler'd because it's 19 photos.

The two RX7s look so similar because the drivers are siblings. I like adding a bit of lore to my grids. ;)

Is there a way to force the AI cars (either chosen by Category or from my Garage) to use specific tyres? Almost always they use Racing hard.

Negative. That is a downside to the custom races. They use the tires they come with or RH. Normal AI will switch to rain tires if necessary.

Clean thumbnail! One tip btw, if you're editing/rendering in Share Factory, when you bring in a clip/your clips, set the volume of all clips to 200%. By default the PS5 recording volume is quite low.
 
Wonder if that has to do with my in game audio settings. I have engine sounds turned up, might make them louder in cockpit view.
Could've been my volume also that was the issue, I think it may have been. The trackside views sound pretty good volume wise. My apologies again.
 
Wish Sophy would make more mistakes.
I know right? Human aren't perfect and it feels so strange that Sophy is. I still haven't figured out what make Reggie different with these F1 races, but it does something better than Sophy.

There aren’t really any parameters set with Reggie. Like Reggie will try to out rake you and fly off into the crowd. Reggie will use curbs, etc. Although quicker, appears SOPHY paints too much in the lines. So, probably less stuffing up.
