£700, no disc drive, a bit of reflection and the ability to make my games even blurrier with upscaling. Yummy! I think I will pass.

This upscaling fad has been nothing but a horrid excuse to keep games unoptimised whilst making them look lower resolution than a game that came out 20 years ago. More of that is the last thing I want.

Thanks Famine. I'm also searching for confirmation of an SSD expansion slot. It would seem like a foregone conclusion but nothings for certain at this point. I'm sure the proper specs will arrive before preorders.
i am sure it will have ssd expansion slot it would make zero sense without it

From a purely personal point of view I'm glad it's that expensive, because it stops me from considering it when I shouldn't be anyway.

There's nothing there I need, but at £500 I probably would have caved and bought it. At £700 there's way too many useful things to do with that kind of money so I can skip it without being tempted to buy something I don't need.

I personally never buy the Pro versions of consoles anyway.
The target audience here is the real hardcore (or "Pro") gamers that already have that kind of money to spend.
I'd imagine the majority of big YouTubers that have a PS5 will switch to the Pro, for example.
The next console that will be aimed at a wider audience will naturally be the PS6, sometime in the 2030's

Don't worry there'll be a 16k label on there that'll get removed eventually.

Gran Turismo 7 was maybe the most stunning demo of all, because it added two new modes. 8K gameplay on an 80-inch screen made me wonder how this could be used for sim racing setups with massive displays. Ray tracing, finally added into GT7's gameplay in another 4K mode, made crowded races with cars feel even more real. I was so hypnotized by looking at car finishes that I kept crashing.

so if the Pro can handle 8K and 4K60 raytracing then for sure it can handle 4K 120fps without RT

And they choose NOT to get a PC? Strange folks.

And what exactly is your problem @Nielsen?

High quality AI upscaling often delivers a better image than native 4K, ie trackside fences, foliage etc. PSSR, like DLSS before it, is a complete gamechanger and will be able to run on unpatched older titles.

Whether people want to jump in right now, at this price point, is another matter. But the technology being delivered will be a significant improvement.

This new version is advertised as including Astros Playroom... I had that included on my PS5 day one, shows how out of touch Sony have sadly become. Their PS4 era feels so long ago

It's the new AstroBot that was just released on Sept 6 2024, not Astros playroom

So the graphics modes they're trying to get rid of will still exist, it'll just shift up a resolution/FPS rate.

Every piece of technology is a gamechanger or significant improvement if it's used in it's 100% ideal perfect scenario with no downgrades. Unfortunately, I have never seen it implemented in a manner that to me, makes it worth any of the time and effort that has been put into developing it. It always looks like crap.

Lol okay that's dumb. I guess I just heard Astro and assumed the new one because anything else would be stupid.
As Astro's Playroom - which is basically a DualSense tech demo, but a game - is bundled with all PS5s anyway, I assumed it would be included with the PS5 Pro. It doesn't seem dreadful that they're confirming that.

I love Astros playroom! Even played rescue mission in VR with my son. Just seems silly to not include the most recent, technically improved release with the shiny upgraded console you just unveiled to help justify the larger price tag.

I was playing Astro's Playroom yesterday as I had only completed the first level. My focus was solely on GT7 at the time I got my PS5, so I didn't take the time to appreciate it. Seeing all the news around the new game, I decided to re-install Playroom and complete it.

I genuinely don't think I've had a more fun gaming experience.
I wasn't going to get the new game because I felt I wasn't really a platform gamer anymore, but the Playroom has completely sold me. It almost feels insulting to call it a demo it's that good, so what Team Asobi could do with a "proper" title is quite a thought.

I'll be getting the new Astro Bot game as soon as I can now, and I highly recommend other PS5 users go back to Astro's Playroom if you're unsure about getting it yourself. Maybe you're like me and don't think platformers are normally your style, but end up having a blast.

But alas, this is the GT7 news/discussion thread so I'll not go into further detail.

You seem to be referring to upscaling in general terms, of which there are many subpar types.

Hardware based AI upscaling has the twin benefit of being much more performative, ie running at an internal resolution of 1080p-1440p. But delivering a final image that is as good, if not better, than native 4K. Unlike the introduction of the SSD or RT hardware, a dev does not need to specifically cater for PSSR. Like DLSS on PC, PSSR is plug & play, the technology will improve as Sony roll out more refined versions.

Nvidia's dominance of the PC GPU market is not because they are delivering 'faster' cards. It's down to their AI tech, which is why they gatekeep it to their latest cards, when it could run on older ones.

Hopefully the replay ray tracing quality is the same during gameplay for GT7 in the PS5 Pro. I wouldn't like to see it downgraded in order to achieve 60FPS, unlike Forza Motorsport or other titles

This. Native vs upscale is a night and day difference to me.
