They are working on a GT8 no doubt about it.
Although I agree with you that a 30th anniversary release for Gt8 together with PS6, especially an special bundle, would make marketing And financial sense.... I would totally get it..... Dec 2027 release ??
But realistically, for that specific scenario to happen, a lot of things must be aligned, not just PD, but Sony and all other games as well. Everything has to align !
I am not up to speed with all other games and future developments, but that seems a hell lot before Sony Entertainment would approve for such a move.
The next questions specifically for Kaz and PD:
- will they be ready to release GT8 by Dec 2027 ?
Do they have everything lined up ?
Release date announcement needs to be prep and ready by early 2027, if so they essentially have exactly a year to polish GT8 in 2026, by end of 2026. We don't even know what they are working on, what content there will be.
GT8 will have to be massive and be everything to everyone.
Gt8 cannot just be 10% more than GT7, no way.
GT8 cannot just be a copy paste of GT7.
GT8 will be a game changer, it needs to be, And if so, do you think it will be ready for release by Dec 2027 ?
A lot is residing on GT8 shoulder, and Kaz knows it, that's why they are mums about it... Kaz has learned from the past, and will not promise anything or reveal anything until they are ready to release.
And
Somehow I doubt they Re ready to release Anything anytime soon, except for this Spe III
Even if the PS6 is somehow ready for Dec 2027 release (exactly 2 years away from now), I don't think GT8 will be released at the same time either.
I don't know anything about the PS6 right now, too many un known, and I don't think Kaz is ready for it either, so I doubt GT8 would be even release in 2027 or 28.
GT8 would have to arrive later, if the PS6 comes in 2027/28.
In addition to it, I think Kaz would want GT8 to be exclusive and solely based on PS6, no more cross gen, which would make most sense financially for Sony, push for console sales.
(Although they have made it work quite well for GT7 on both PS4 and PS5, but the effort in design and technics is probably making them work twice more on their end, they probably have learned a few things they don't want to do anymore going forward for cross gen, therefore I suspect they will try to go away from the cross gen compatibility)
For this reason and because, as witnessed, there are still a lot of people who have yet or who have just jumped on the PS5 bandwagon, the release of the PS6 console is probably going to be pushed out to 2030 I think.
Otherwise you are forcing large population to feel they are yet again behind, when they just got their PS5.
It doesn't make sense to have it out even in 2027, or 2028...
It is still too soon., you will definitely create a great divide...
Some people are still haven't given GT7 on PSVR2 a chance and there are more life on it...
Otherwise you will continue to have that overlap of consoles, just like the PS4 - PS4 Pro - PS5 - PS5 Pro
I am thinking Sony would want to have a clean break, and release PS6 when most of the AAA titles and exclusives are all aligned to release their best and greatest on the next gen, that will certainly move a great deal of people.....
The PS5 family seems to still have plenty of life left to go at least 3 or 4 more years.
I could be wrong. I will accept to be wrong, but I doubt I am wrong here, from a technical, financial and timeline perspective, it wouldn't make sense to rush GT8 on PS6.
Because there is also the scenario that Sony is ok with frequent small release and update over the previous major step up clean break.
Maybe they have learned during this past cross gen erA, that they actually making more money by making incremental changes and version, alternating between Pro consoles and non Pro consoles, that this type of frequent revenue stream is better than major gen release (pS1, PS2, PS3, PS4)
But I digress
Coming back to GT7 and GT8
GT7 Spec III will allow them PD to buy themselves more time to work on GT8.
As I have said before, I suspect there might be a Spec IV before we jump to GT8.
Spec IV will either be the update to close GT7 and prepare us for a clean break before GT8 start.
Or
spec IV will be to allow for another cross gen (I would be ok with, but I don't think it will be the case).
My prediction:
GT8 will drive PS6 and PSVR3 sales.... 2030 ?! At the earliest.
It could be that GT8 would be the major push into VR.
It could be that PD is building GT7 to the max, release as many cars and tracks based on our wishlist, and suddenly, turn on the switch, make GT8 exactly like GT7 with all its content, but the major difference is that GT8 will have the bestest greatest VR headset, building on the VR2.
For those who have PSVR2, imagine the power of PS6, and an advanced PSVR3, GT8 would be so good ! .... Oh I am saving my money now
Sorry for the long post, crystal ball is talkative today.
