I think this may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe GT8, or whatever comes next, should re-implement or utilize the car structure they had in GT2-4. That is; not every car is immediately viewable or purchase-able. Some cars you only get by winning certain events. Some you only get by reaching certain milestones. If you don't do certain things in the game there's a solid chance you never see a certain car. A part of GT's appeal to me is the mystique it creates with its car list. It's why eyeballing the Minolta 88C-V in GT4 with its "Cr.----" price felt so good, because you were like, "****, how do I win that?" If it just showed it to me day 1 and I could buy it I wouldn't care about it as much, but it took something to earn that car. I didn't wait for it to show up in a legends dearler. I didn't wait for a UCD refresh like in GT5. No, if I wanted it, I had to engage with the game, and that's something I think has been missing since GT4. I realize there's an argument to be made for being able to access every car from the jump, but for the CarPG that GT tries to be, I think this is one area where it can not just do better, but it already did once before, and personally I'd like to see some kind of return to that.
As long as I can obtain the cars some other way than with licenses or missions if I'm not skilled enough, such as a Championship awarding it. I'm a very meh driver, especially at licenses and missions.

I guess this is the reason the game now just lets you buy everything. Otherwise, the players who are below a certain skill level would get frustrated.

And I suppose they tried to replace skill-based earning cars by introducing the legend cars dealership and invites, where, no matter how good you are, you’ll have to wait 3 months or more to get the car you like. I hope PD agrees that this wasn’t the right solution, making all players suffer by default.

But what the best solution is to account for Johnny’s problem, I haven’t thought about it enough, taking all factors into account. It would be fun if we could all have a big brainstorm session and see what we can come up with.

This is a conversation which divides the player base.

I personally think that if you aren't skilled enough to win a car which is only available that way, then too bad for you.

I've been bad at enough games throughout my life to miss out on huge portions of content.

It's fine. It's incentive to improve.

But I'm willing to accept the world is a different place now. People don't like being denied things even if they haven't shown proficiency deserving of the reward.

It's fine.

What’s for sure at least, is that PD is trying to sell the game to an as big as possible audience.

In sport mode, players are divided into classes based on performance. Players progress to higher classes as they get better. Would it be a good idea if PD implemented this for the single player part of the game as well? Maybe that would be a good mechanic to make everyone still earn the cars, but at an appropriate difficulty for their skill level.

I'm of the same opinion about making cars feel special. My personal anecdote is how excited I felt doing events in GT2 because I wouldn't know what I'd win, and it's usually some esoteric rare trim of a car (400R "Preceiding" Model), or even something that I never knew existed to begin with. Like, what the heck is a Tom's Angel 101???

Sadly, I really don't see those days ever returning. It seems to me that modern games place heavy emphasis on competitive PvP and neglecting the single–player experience (the Pokémon series comes to mind). That being said, for a fair online competitive experience, every player should have easy access to every car in the game, and we see that currently in the form of rental cars in Sport Mode. With how long it takes to model a car for the game nowadays, I think PD would be heavily incentivised to use those super detailed models as marketing (as evidenced by how cars are usually the first part of an update we'd come to know of). All that being said, I don't see how cars can retain that mystique if every update trailer is effectively, "look new car in new update!", and how Sport Mode must aim to equalise player footing.

I suppose there's an argument to be made for owning a car and customising it as opposed to simply renting one, but I don't think the magic of the good ol' days will ever return. If anything, owning a car is more of a pain as you'd then have to worry about car maintenance, to say nothing of the obscene amount of credits some cars cost...

Anyway, sorry for rambling; this has been on my mind for a while now.

I've thought about this also. It will add "career" feeling like the old GT games. As long as they don't put the best cars on long endurance races I'm fine. And they should make another way if it's too hard to unlock like long endurance or gold licenses.

This! Making something "just take a very long time" is the least creative and inspiring way to implement difficulty.

That's why it baffles me that they've hardly touched the Missions section of the game. It's the closest thing to stage-based incremental challenges that they've put on the game.

Had a bit of fun customizing a Honda Stepwgn today. Much like the Citroen 2CV, it feels like the Stepwgn has a respectable amount of options even if you don't opt for a widebody. This includes both cars having a more subtle rear wing option that still has a rear downforce setting option, as well as a very flamboyant one that seems more fitting for a time attacker like the ones seen at Pikes Peak. I wonder if the latter option on the 2CV would look a bit better if I went for a widebody?

Something I've been thinking about that I feel doesn't come up a lot whenever GT8 speculation like these last two pages happens:

Kaz is pushing 60, is not hurting for wealth, has been doing this for 30 years now, has other interests besides video games and cars, and the video game industry does not look like it's going to be a particularly fun industry to be a part of in the 2030s (not to mention the big sweeping changes to the landscape of the automotive industry that this particular game also relies on).

I don't think it's that unlikely that the next game is, maybe not the final one with Kaz around at all, but quite possibly the last one he's properly hands-on as the day-to-day producer with.

Well said.
And i think we are about to get what we want with the power pack... Doing the power pack is very exciting... I thoroughly enjoy that sort of thing and we could have a similar but extensive version of it.
I haven’t bought the power pack. I may not as the game is wearing off on me. I think it’s important for them to have that type of stuff from day one. Updates can be for cars and tracks in my opinion.

I personally think they could do away with licenses, circuit experiences and missions. Revamp the payout so you’re getting paid for your time racing for the most part and get rid of those “big three payout races”. Make it all equal or close to.

I don’t mind the idea of some cars can only be won by winning a specific race or championship. As long as it’s not too difficult or have a way to dial back the difficulty to earn it. Some game I was playing I couldn’t get past this one part and finally it just reduced the difficultly so I couldn’t move on. I’m good with that. Nothing worse than a game that feels damn near impossible. There was a game I played dark souls or something it was called, can’t remember, but I couldn’t make it twenty feet in the game I just uninstalled it haha
