I'm starting to think the silhouette posts don't work very well in terms of PR for updates. At least for GT7, maybe they worked better for GT Sport's content.

This isn't the first time the silhouette reveal has caused tons of consternation and rage, and then Thursday shows up and the mood shifts to "actually, these are pretty neat (maybe not the CUVs)".

Am I missing something with the hype of the Z Tune? I just survived a test drive of it in the time trial and it might be the worst handling boat I've driven yet in this game. N-One is definitely doing the heavy lifting this update for me!

Well, you can transform the Skyline in so many ways. It's Tons of fun!
 
I figured this would be a good place to ask rather than create a new thread;

This article seems to imply that ratings user-created content were automatically transferred from GT Sport to GT7, but it's a bit confusing. My ratings have indeed carried over. I made a custom helmet in GT Sport that I would like to use without redesigning from scratch, should it just already be in my inventory? I have not played GT Sport in four years. Would I have needed to do something to manually import the design? Surely that isn't even possible anymore considering online service has ended. I'm not at home right now, but I'm hoping my old helmet is just in my collection in GT7.

Same impression here, at least on the driving side. Heavy and sluggish.
It does looks great in all the liveries that people make.

It didn't help that the highlight race for the car takes place in Fuji. It really did feel rear-happy when you exit a corner.

Last night, as I was watching again the 1.61 update trailer, Youtube suggested me the same video along others like this one :


With a few exceptions I'm not really into Youtube, nor e-Sport players, so obviously even less into both at the same time. Yet this time I decided to watch them. And I was thinking to myself something like "Hey, it only took 3 years for the worms to realize the apple was rotting!". lol

However I don't consider them to be primarily responsible for the situation. It was Kaz who first threw the worms into the apple tree with GT Sport, and since they are hungry. They shyly start to understand that the apple wasn't grown for them to begin with, yet they stay miles away from having a real answer to the issues GT7 faces.

It's good that they are finally trying to find solutions, but I can feel that they are out of touch in many ways. The fact that Kaz spends much more time with them (thanks to GTWS) than with “traditional” players doesn't help matters.

Great video! It's honestly baffling how tone deaf PD are considering that even one of Gran Turismo's biggest content creators (afaik) is highlighting the same issues we've been mentioning for quite some time yet they just don't seem to care at all. I don't think it's unreasonable to demand up to date cars for a racing game. Otherwise what's the point of buying a new Gran Turismo if it shares 90% of its car selection with a game that's several years old?

I watched it and i thought Steve actually came up with a decent head canon as to why these last few updates have been as they are.

If they're going to continue with the online focus into the next game, then it's probably prudent to 'save' all the newer racecars and wait for them to be unveiled as part of a new look Sport Mode. Meanwhile, they are clearly stocking up on workaday cars, because they will be needed when we start a new single-player campaign in order to avoid a repeat of the Café Menu Book linearity.

That's my take, anyway. 🤞

Thing is, if you start thinking of GT Sport as "GT7 Prologue" in so much that they were always going to share content and that many, many things would be ported across, including players' online progress, then it still kinda holds together.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not on this "GT8 is coming soon" train of thought, but in these days of diminishing returns visually, it just makes sense to use these updates in order to expand a future/hypothetical vehicle roster.

I mean, it's not a particularly racing game-y car, but it is a very Gran Turismo car. The only real problem with it is... there's only seven kei cars, and it's the first "normal" one. We need the Alto/Carol (mmm, Alto Works...), Cervo, Minica, Mira (TR-XX!), Opti, Pajero Mini, Pixis, Tanto, Terios/Rush, Wagon R, Vivio (RX-R!), and then mad **** like the AMI, Datsun Baby, Fellow/Fellow Buggy, Sambar... Oh and of course the AZ-1, Mazdaspeed, and M2 1015 :D


Just as a little fun fact, there is a specific, Japan-only model of an incredibly unlikely car designed to meet the Kei car regs that I think a lot of people would be very okay with. It has a version of the 660cc turbo Suzuki engine which, despite being 80hp, is actually still eligible to be a kei car under homologation rules (a weird situation, but there we go), and slightly narrower rear bodywork to get it into the 1.48m width restriction - already being short and low enough to qualify...

In fact, speaking of Suzuki, the Ignis, released in 2019, is a plausible variant. At the time, I said it was quite a satisfying car. I wonder if it'll be in the hopes of having it in some future GT7 update, given the right number of SUVs/Kei Cars. This Ignis supports both segments, and maybe I wouldn't mind trying it in a GT.

Unless they get pretty discounted by the Used Car Dealership, here are their prices:
  • Toyota C-HR: 26,000cr
  • Mazda CX-30: 29,000cr
  • Peugeot 2008: 29,000cr
  • Nissan Qashqai: 39,000cr
  • Honda CR-V: 46,000cr
For reference, the starting amount in GT7 is 20,000cr.

Also still a bit surprised we haven't had an Extra Menu for the category yet.

Definitely sounds plausible. The days of a classic Gran Turismo career mode are probably over. At least I don‘t see PD returning to the formula of the older games.

New cars trend more expensive than they ever have before, not unreasonable to assume they'll bump the starting amount. Even GT6 had it at 30k before harassing you with a Honda Jazz.

My thought is more - if they were the starters, unless you have a personal attachment to one of the others, why would anyone take anything but the CX-30 from that selection?

It's the fastest stock, it's fully upgradeable, it's one of the cheapest so you'd have early-game tuning money, and it also probably looks the nicest. It's just clearly better than everything else.

Kireth is Gran Turismo poison. That guy has the WORST takes on just about everything. Take everything he says with a truckload of salt.

I tend to agree with your premise, though. GT Sport brought in a dedicated race car fanbase to the franchise (Mostly only interested in racing cars, and GT3/GT4 at that). This contingent has been ported over to GT7. All they want is race cars (and as I said pretty much just GT3 cars, and a few others). a sequel to GT Sport would have been better to satiate that group. Instead, they're all over here complaining about things that were ALWAYS present in previous GT games (prior to Sport). They view vehicles like the Honda N-One, The Suzuki Carry, the Unimog, etc... as pointless additions... when in fact they are perfectly in line with GT historically. Not to mention they are all a ton of fun with the right mindset. As you said, many of them are seriously out of touch with the franchise. It's partly Kaz's fault, but that doesn't make it any less annoying.
