Another issue appears with trackside trees, where the PSSR algorithm appears to struggle upscaling the texture of the leaves. You can see this here through the first turn of Deep Forest, as the trees on the hillside turn into a smudgy mess as the image begins to pan. Although such background detail is not something you would typically be looking at, it is strange enough to grab your attention as a small reminder of PSSR’s limitations.

Still better looking than Forza Motorsport's trees

Uhhh, it did show up in the marketing? Was even in Cerny's reveal presentation...
True, GT7 was featured in some video/marketing clips, and there were some ramblings about some features/improvements... but there was no statements regarding what it would actually bring to the VR table and I seem to remember GT7 disappearing weeks before the release date (mist likely when it became clear GT7 update will not be ready for the launch) leaving everyone guessing...
And most assumed VR might benefit the most, which both, the analysis here on gtplanet and the one from Digital Foundry confirmed, but Sony did not use/feature this anywhere (afaik).

I have a question for the PS5 pro player. For me the game is unplayable with ray tracing and PSSR, it has so many stutters and pop ups. I have now switched off pssr and then it works.
Don't you have that?
I don't read about it, is it my setting with a projector or is my Ps5 pro corrupt. Or does it just not bother anyone?

I've not had any issues like that.

Hmmm... thanks for the feedback.
I'll have to try connecting the Pro to a TV or monitor.
To test whether it's the console or the projector. (Unfortunately I don't have any 4k screens at home. 😅)
What I noticed yesterday, it's massive or almost not, depending on the distance... I'll have to make a note of that. 😅

I think GT7 still needs some optimization to take full advantage of the extra power of PS5 Pro. It really doesn't look like a big upgrade. Not even FPS are that much higher. I don't think it's a console problem and there is a clear lack of optimization.

Are you insinuating that there is a new version of PSSR that Polyphony has yet to to implement?
PSSR is getting a major update next year, something to do with machine learning (way over my head) apparently does a better job and addresses some visual artifact issues from version 1.

Not sure what you expect them to do with the frame rate. The game already runs pretty much locked at 4K60 or 1080/120 on the base console. The Pro does already boost the resolution in each respective mode.

I don’t really care about the shiny reflections so have been playing in the “prioritise frame rate” mode. There is a definite upgrade in resolution over the base console, for example dials that were a bit hard to read in cockpit view are now much sharper. I’ll try the other modes with & without PSSR but I don’t think they’ll be better for actually driving rather than photos and replays.

Anyone noticing that "raytraced" wheels and reflective materials look far worse/pixelated when PSSR is on than off? For me, the best combination is Prioritize Raytracing/Resolution, 120hz on and PSSR off. It looks the best and frames are well above 100 most of the time...

Only in the garage for me. Otherwise, it looks fine in the replays.

If you want the best image possible on the Pro, turn off RT, but leave PSSR on. The internal resolution for PSSR to work with is higher with RT off than on.

How do you know that the base resolution is higher when RT is off? In my opinion it looks a lot more jagged even with PSSR On or Off... but I'm not an expert.

Thread on ResetEra that lists all the resolutions for each PS5 Pro enhanced game.

That, and it just looks sharper to my eyes. I honestly don't see any aliasing/jaggies as well.

I had created a thread asking whether upgrading from a base PS5 to a Pro is worth it. I was linked this video and it answered my questions. Speaking just for myself, it is not, at least for GT7. I found the lighting technique in the interior of the car to look a little overdone. The thing that stood out is the softness of the image in PSSR. I prefer a crispness to the image displayed and just go with native resolution. Perhaps when the PS6 gets released in 2 years time the RT lighting tech can be more refined. As such, I am not the biggest fan of Ray or Path Tracing. For me, it doesn't really add anything of value to the experience and GT7 looks good enough.

Well, I said I wouldn't do it but I did. Apparently more money than sense took over. I even covered my ears to that little voice inside that whispered: "Don't Do It" but I did.

The result is, it's actually what I expected and the RT improvements were somewhat mixed with a little bit of a performance drop in a 20 car race at Daytona starting from the back. So I set it back to performance and it's a consistent 60FPS in 4K. But hey at least I got a shiny new PS5 Pro after trading in my OG Ps5 with a disc and all it cost me was $430 with the add on disc drive.

A man after my own heart. Where would I trade mine in?

Best Buy gave me $300 for my Phat PS5 with a disc drive. That promo I believe is still going on. On a positive note, the PS5 Pro is not as tall or appear as wide as the original PS5. It also runs a lot cooler.

I had that in a Daytona race starting from the back. It wasn't glaring but it was almost as if the frametime (ms) increase and I could notice a micro-stutter while turning. I turned off PSSR and it was back to normal for me. I am pretty sensitive to frametime as I usually have a benchmark app like GPU Tweak III running on my PC while playing racing or flying games. Also I just purchased a Pro a week ago.

It may not be worth it today... But it might be worth it if/when we find out that GT8 has some features that will only work on the PS5 Pro.
