Unfortunately, given that the slow creep of microtransactions has been building since GT6, it's fair to say that this isn't a Sony decision. It's a result of PD trying to make a game that'll serve - and milk - the fairly affluent hardcore PC sim crowd (think iRacing and other subscription services), while also serving the average gamer. While they were just offering cars or credits alone it wasn't too bad, you could ignore them and just play the game; with GT7 they're changing long-established gameplay elements and progression maps in order to push microtransactions - and all they've done is create a arduous chore of a game with what is essentially a class divide built right in.This may be more a Sony influenced issue than PD directly.
It'd be nice to think that PD had this all forced on them, but that simply isn't the case.
