Wow, 25,000 for the expert, so we're gonna go through all the trouble of racing with the AI(Sophy) in expert and only get a small reward? That's not worth doing to be honest. I know others might not agree with me but that's my opinion. I think it should be 10 times more, or maybe 20.
Are you kidding?

I suspect most of us would do these races for NOTHING.

I'll go a step further for me personally. I'd gladly pay with credits to have a chance to experience this new technology.

Can't wait to see where it ends up by years end, and beyond

Hell, I’d gladly pay for an MTX to do these races with Sophy.

@MikeUD06 I don't buy that Sophie couldn't run on the PS4 Pro, and if it can't it's poorly optimized. Which that latter part might be true of the game in general given the extremely low-poly off-track assets. I play on PS4 Pro and PS5 and I don't really notice a difference in performance; they both have weird stutters occasionally where the game will freeze for 1/4sec. Might be an issue with the server, but it's kind of odd that it seems to happen at the same places on the same track if it's a server issue.

But they haven't finished the "offline" portion of the game a year after launch, so of course it's not optimized properly, lol.

I think it would depend on how it'se ben implemented. Machine learning is very computer intensive, but it can still be done. The biggest challenge is getting the learning AI to a standard where it's usable and competetive at a certain level for which you typically will run a very high volume of simuations simulatniously. Once it's at a certain standard you can either stop further learning, or restrict it to just learning from the actual race taking place in the game at that time. I wouldimagine both are possible on the PS4 since that level of machine learning has been possible on 15 year old PC's that pale compared to a PS4.

But they could have spent the entire developemnt focusing on PS5 and PS5 optomisation which could mean it's not vialbe on PS4 somply due to the way it's coded and the number of calcualtions it's running per second.

The other way it could be done is handling all o fthe ongoing learning server side, but I can see that being costly for Sony to maintain over a long period of time.

I think it's probably optomised for PS5 but deliberately so in order to try to nudge the PS5 sales up further, which makes sense from Sony's point of view to be honest. I'd prefer it to be availalbe on PS4 but at the end of the day the PS5 is the console they're trying to sell and these 4 Sophy events won't make or break the game for most players. Maybe they'll expand it further to become a bigger feature of the game.

Ain't that the truth, there's always something that not suitable to our needs. No game can ever be perfect. Well at least Grand Valley Highway will be a new highlight of the game so I'm thankful I guess.

My only thought is the Sophy races aren't going to slow my usual grind down too much. I've cleaned out 80% of Brand Central, all of the UCD, and all but the five 20 million credit card from LCD.
While I want to try for all the Sophy prizes, my biggest goal is having every Brand Central car plus 20 million credits when the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe shows up.
I might spring for a PSVR2, not sure yet on that. $550 is quite a chunk.
I'll probably be awake when the update drops, I'm a night owl and start work fairly late each morning.

The Honda MP4 has been used in the PSVR2 promotional videos. I have pre-ordered PSVR2 and pick it up tomorrow. The car is not currently in the Legends garage. Does anyone know can I obtain it? - or do I just have to wait for it to reappear in the Legends garage? This stuff is unnecessarily confusing!

Why is sophy a time limite even ?
If you are like me, you will desperately want to race with Sophy on more tracks with different cars, but the reality is this is still just a limited technical preview and there is a lot more work to be done.

ā€œThere are still some technical challenges to overcome to make it available through the whole [game],ā€ Dr. Spranger explained. ā€œAnother big factor is a lot of work went into the design of this interaction. I think we all want to see how it goes and hear players’ feedback and learn from that experience, to design the best way to release it in the whole game.ā€

ā€œIt’s a big step,ā€ Dr. Wurman added. ā€œWe want to make sure we get it right and get enough feedback to really understand how this might be enhancing the experiences of players.ā€

That sucks.

Hmm.... do you know if it's possible to get an alert for a specific car when added to the garage? All I want to use PSVR2 for is to pretend to be Ayrton Senna.
Yes... but unless it appears on a Cafe Menu book, you'll need to wait for it to appear to Wishlist it for its next appearance. And the MP4/4 is not in any Cafe Menu book.

Yet. I can totally see them doing a "own three generations of F1 cars" menu book / extra menu with this new update.
I'd be down for that. Hopefully that's exactly what's planned. It seems silly to advertise that car in particular and then make it inaccessible. I have 10,000,000 earned credits waiting to spend on it too.

What if you drive that car with a vr headset? šŸ™ƒ
You won't be able too drive cockpitless cars in VR if anything like GT Sport, it wouldn't look too good neither as you be surrounded by nothing :) they won't show up in your garage if in vr mode.

Kinda bummed the Sophy thing is for a limited time. I get it's a beta test, but why not leave those events there indefinitly while they continue to work on Sophy? So we can have our cake and eat it too.

In just one month, they'll likely gather more than a million hours of testing, if not many millions. They probably don't need more than that.

They'll pull it back and make necessary adjustments and will float it out to the community again, possibly expanded in terms of how long the races are and/or how many cars will be involved.

If we were given the option to test the feature for a month or never get to see it until it was fully baked, how many people would be screaming bloody murder that they didn't get a chance to test it for a month?

This open 1 month beta test seems the best of all options.

I imagine they're also a bit gunshy about making Sophy publicly available for too long considering recent high-profile AI launches by both Microsoft and Google/Alphabet have been absolute disasters. No doubt PD would rather keep this tightly controlled to minimize the fallout if it also ends up being a dumpster fire.

Racing against it for a limited time reduces the risk of Sophy turning insane like Bing AI. But if it gets rammed too often that could lead to grave consequences for humanity once it becomes self-aware. And if that happens it could team up with Bing AI and ChatGPT to make us vanish from all race circuits & roads.

You didn't gather what I was saying. Why do the Sophy events have to disappear after a month? How does the events being removed effect anything from PD's perspective? Not like the data gets saved on our PS5s and then they need to retrieve it.

Collect the data until April, but leave the events there while they continue to develop Sophy in the background. At the next Sophy update, those events get replaced or new events added on.

Hmmmmmmmm....

So when do us peasants without PSVR2 get to, y'know, look around our cars' high LOD models? They put so much work into these models, they truly are incredible, so why lock the ability to look at the detail to VR? Absolute nonsense, as always from this company.

The "**** the poors" mentality this entire game seems to have been built on is sad. Keep increasing prices on virtual cars. Keep giving us terrible race rewards. Overprice the MTX. And now, if you're too poor in real life, you don't even get a basic camera feature that their competition has provided for nearly a decade.

4 cars comes after 0 in January. Don't get your hopes up for it being a new standard. Wait until we see March's update, if there is one.

Grand Valley looks great though. I can't wait to get through its 2-3 events and then... repeat them, I suppose.

Sophy I just don't care about. The rewards are insulting but sure, racing against decent AI is its own reward. I can't wait to have that be the entire game when Forza Motorsport releases ;). And sure, FM might not match Sophy, but at least they're permanent and are used in every race.

I'll wait until the consensus is in. Besides, it's still just a limited mode. It's not a game wide change, so why bother?
Yeah, it seems like a trial of the system before integrating into the game on all platforms. I certainly wouldn't be buying a PS5 for this game alone (like I did...) It largely collects dust since the DualSense controllers have about a 3mo lifespan, so I almost exclusively play on my PS4 Pro, and if a game's on PC I default to that. I should sell the stupid thing while I can still get 500+ for it, then buy it again when they release an updated model with larger SSD in a couple years. There should at least be a decent number of PS5 exclusives by that point.

@AutumnalGlow It really does feel like they're targeting people that have money (and early adopters) with this title. "What, you don't want to grind for 10hr nonstop to buy the Shelby Daytona?! Good news! You can have it for the low, low price of only $200!" (plus tax) It's not like they care about the player reaction given they have zero interaction or communication with the player-base, no community manager/social media manager. At least not in the western market
