Not played yet but a bit confused that folks are saying there's a nicer, more natural feel to the grip, especially on FR cars, but times are slower?

Thinking about the Catherham swap right now. Beyond the Jimny swap, I could see the RC213V from the Honda Project 2&4 being added at some point. If the Jimny swap makes it an "impromptu" Seven 170, then maybe the RC213V could be the "impromptu" Seven Fireblade?

RE flashing Sophy icon
It appears that now I have to do a complete race to get rid of the flashing icon were in previous updates it was enough to just click on to acknowledge the update.
Am I therefore forced to do these races just to tidy up my home screen or am I missing a way to delete them ?

Well well well - they added cars to the Sophy list!
Surprisingly, they removed some as well. For example, the Nissan 300ZX can no longer be used on the Nürburgring, but before the update it could, and Sophy drove it pretty well.

I assume it's due to the fact that having more stability and control doesn't necessarily make you faster and more agile, among other reasons. For example, when the Huracán GT3 was one of the fastest* Gr.3s, it was also one of the most difficult and twitchy.

Unless it's a car that was incredibly unstable and difficult to drive to begin with (an old muscle car with 1000+ BHP and no downforce, for example), most cars will probably have slower lap times after this update.

*Can't remember if it was in GT Sport or GT7, but it was among the fastest Gr.3 for a while.

did someone try rally? imo it's unplayable now lol. master s-2 test is just a joke (as well the new circuit experience on barcelona rally) car oversteers like crazy. even on -2 sens on controller. maybe it's just me ofc, but feels like cancer.

There are the physics change on a side, and the changes of some suspension and downforce values in the other side. It is the later that result in slower lap times.
As an example, they totally destroyed again Gr.1 cars, or at least all of the Hypercars which are now 20km/h slower in the straight lines and 5 seconds a lap slower at Le Mans. They just can't help themselves from twisting reality to shoehorn these cars into absurd performance boxes. That is one of the main reasons why I will always prefer the addition of road cars over race cars in GT7.

Changes made to the physics are really good as a controller player. The downside being all my setups are to be thrown away, as are all my custom race grids....

The Caterham Museum is nice, even though it lacks many photos from the early decades. Their renewed activity in 2013 is quite rich in informations, their closer ties with Alpine are even mentioned (they both went back to Le Mans around the same time : 2013 and 2014). Yet, surprisingly, they overlooked this :

Hate to be that guy, but street cars are the very foundation of Gran Turismo, including ones you'll drive "exactly one time". 🤷🏻‍♂️
as someone who's been playing since 1998 I am well aware of the foundation of the franchise. I'm also aware that since at least GT4 people have been complaining about having 15+ Nissan Skyline/GT-R variants but can't get a modern GT3 car in the game.

When progression made sense and there was a robust and planned single player mode street cars were fun and neat to try to get as fast as possible while still being controllable.
Now that progression doesn't really exist and the single player mode is designed to funnel players into online play instead of being a satisfactory solo journey street cars are far less relevant
I'm mid way thru the Le Mans Powerpack endurance driving the 2 chili Mercedes and thankfully the update didn't kill the save progress. There are some obvious noticeable differences having driven the same car for so many hours:

  • Braking distances have shortened noticeably, so much so that I need to find new markers to know when is best to brake
  • Oversteer has reduced especially on corner exit. It just feels like regardless of tyre choice, you have more grip. The handling is more forgiving.
  • Mid corner traction feels the same to me
  • Tyres appear to wear slightly slower than before. I can do an extra 2 laps before pitting on softs.
  • The car tops out at 221mph on the straight now, whereas before it would get to 228
  • Overall lap times are about 1.5-2 seconds slower
  • The AI now OBEYS the blue flag by moving to the right. They won't slow down but they do get out the way and seem to drive less aggressive which is accurate under endurance race rule.
  • The AI is definitely slower and not driving as well, especially around the Porsche curves. They keep mounting the inside kerb. This could just be due to loading a save from before the update. If you do the race fresh it might not happen?
  • The RS50 wheel feels heavier under hard braking and at very low speeds, and understeer vibration has been increased noticeably. It's not night and day but it's there. Feels better imo
I loved all of that except the blue flags. It's only F1 where a blue flagged driver is required to move. For WEC/IMSA/SRO/Nurburgring a blue flag means "faster driver approaching DON'T MAKE SUDDEN MOVES". It's always the faster cars responsibility to make the pass it is never the responsibility for the slower car to facilitate the pass

Nor to brake-check right at the apex... 🙃

Looks like the controller sensitivity has finally been fixed, so setting it to 10 makes it actually sensitive.

AND HALLELUJAH - the add cars to Sophy after a year.

All the hypercars from the last update, The Suzuki Carry, the Honda One, The Porsche GT3R, and the Ferrari 298, and the cars from the Power Pack!! It looks like all the cars released since Spring are now available with Sophy! I haven't noticed any that are not available.

Here's just one photo I took of Sophy eligible cars. Sadly, the new cars are not on the list as far as I can tell.

Tried Fisherman's Ranch and it felt fine in a Gr.B. Nothing out of the ordinary. Then I tested out Master S-2 and while it felt different, it wasn't that bad. Was within 4 tenths of my record time before the update and over a second faster than the gold time.

Now what really changed was the snow physics. Was doing Master S-5 and had much less grip than before. I could no longer just throw the car around to slow it down and hope the 4WD pulled me out of the corner. Doing so would just make the car slide out to the outside, and crash into the wall. Snow is definitely much slower than before.

To put things into perspective, I went from a 1:39.5 to a 1:54.5 on Master S-5, 15 seconds slower.

They Nerf'ed all the Gr3 cars. So they may go through turns a little better but accelerate slower with lower top speeds.

SOLVED !

Honestly, most racecars in the game are too fast anyway compared to their real life counterparts. Slowing them down is a good thing.

I have to mostly disagree here, Group C being the only exception as whole. If GT3 are faster that's only because they come to the game without BoP been applied.

I believe tyre rolling resistance has increased, that could explain why times are slower.

The really altered the Sophy settings. It isn't all good news.

The Suzuki Carry is worse with Sophy support than it was without it. It's like it completely ignores all of it's upgrades (tires, brakes, suspension). They stop REALLY early in the corners and tiptoe around them, as if nothing on the vehicle has changed. I think this is going to be an issue with all the modified cars. I need to test more.

Also, the boost settings have been changed. Strong boost will allow you to pass everyone really quickly.

Edit - Looks like it's only the Suzuki Carry that's broken. Everything else seems to work ok.

Front turn signals on both Toyota can be modified using the Livery Editor.

This quickly becoming one of the better updates this game received not because of the new cars, but the physics adjustment is big and much more noticeable this time.
Handling across the board just became much more natural and predictable, cars that were previously undrivable for years now finally competent and now even have really good handling almost to the point of being competitive.
Chaparral 2X VGT for example is now less likely to overshoot the corners with its insane amount of understeer, it can still happen but now I feel like I have much more control over it.
Did anyone noticed that they are adding back the smoother shifting transition sound where they left it quiet for quite a while until now that they got many cars with smoother (also slower) and more realistic gear changes, I'm really enjoying slower manual road cars now as upshifting and downshifting are much more natural.
But my god PD what have you done to my fully tuned Xiaomi SU7 Ultra?
It got buffed quite a bit and now is mind-blowingly quick out of the corner and it actually drives rather stable now.
While I do notice some my old favorites are now suddenly no longer as stable and not nearly as sure footed.
2007 R8 now much more tendency to get its tail going sideways more like SLS AMG, whereas prior to this it has always been a pretty stable balanced thing.

Just got on the without reading GTP so I could get a blind experience.

I really like this so far. I’m on a controller.

So far it seems like you get more initial bite, more like a wheel, so rapid changes of direction are easier. Only tried two cars right now, 296 GTB and the SF23 but you get the bite.

I wonder if this was meant to be GT8’s physics and they put them in here as either a test run or a legit update since the service may be extended. The cars feel more alive to me but that might be because I felt the sensitivity which I had pre-update (7) was a little too high for me now, or maybe I’m just not adjusted yet to the controls.

Good impressions right away, though. Haven’t noticed progressive slip yet but again, only a little running. I actually felt like the rear was looser (but that doesn’t mean snappier), that could’ve been the sensitivity thing though.

It feels like pad players now have the wheel benefit for turning at high speed and perhaps initial turn in as well. This is really good, I think!

EDIT: Seems like the wheel needs to return to the middle for at least a little time before the initial bite returns. Going from lock to lock doesn’t give the same bite.

You may be feeling the controller sensitivity. I did the new Catalunya circuit challenge, and you really notice that the controller reacts better. Setting it to 10 requires subtle movements on the stick.

Anyone else noticed the WTC 600 at Tokyo (cash grind race) has been changed?
Fuel Consumption Rate changed from 3x to 1x
Tyre Wear Rate changed from 12x to 14x

On a different note, pretty sure I just got my first engine ticket for completing the daily marathon... long hope that continues, especially as the seasonal menu is a crappy 4*.

The physics change is very profound. First impressions. Cars seem to have a ton more weight now - also when bumbing each other? Grip is very different - you can loose and gain grip again and again. Feels more like rubber tires now. Suspensions do seem to act funny in extreme conditions like crashes and jumps, but might just be the weight. I really like it so far and so does my 245 turbo brick that used to be near undrivable. To be continued..

I liked that change, allow for more cars to be eligible and experiment with since this event are notorious for many players resorted to meta cars.
Now I want more longer races with 1x fuel consumption as some EVs are now actually useable.

The 155 2.5 v6 without bop, it's much faster, it has almost no understeer, you can feel its lightness

So I tested out the new Torque Distribution on the two Ioniqs, and I think it's bugged? Both of them accelerate slower if the setting isn't at 50/50, and it's especially noticeable if you put it on 0/100 (RWD) or 100/0 (FWD).

0-100 km/h test:
  • 50/50 distribution does around 4.9 seconds;
  • 0/100 distribution does around 7.5 seconds;
  • 100/0 distribution does nearly 10 seconds (!!!).

Seriously, try a standing start on Special Stage Route X with a 0/100 or 100/0 distribution, and you can clearly see the difference between your Ioniq and the AI's (which is on 50/50). Best leave it on 50/50.

Edit: Should clarify, there's zero tire spin on standing starts regardless of distribution setting, so the time difference can't be due to loss of grip.
