I did a search on this topic and didn't see anything. I was reading some gaming magazine yesterday (i think it was Play) and there's a blurb in it about a new Gran Turismo game that's gonna be just for kids! Even so, I"ll be in line to purchase my copy whenever it comes out. I'm wondering what it'll be? Probly MOtorsports Land will be in it. Also it said when GT5 comes out it's gonna finally have car damage!

I know exactly what he's talking about. It's current working title is "Gran Turismo for Boys". And has nothing to do with any of the current GT games. If it belongs anywhere, it's in the PS2 forum, until such time as the Admins decide to make a "General Gran Turismo" forum that's not game-specific.

No, not really. I was just pointing out this wasn't really the right place for the thread, being the GT2 forum and all.. no need to get bent out of shape about it.

No disrespect to you, technically you're right. But GT2 is my home. I don't post in other forums on this site cuz they're full of a hundred people at a time literally and i don't like their pace.

The magazine i looked at said “Gran Turismo for Kids” not “for Boys”, by the way. From my perspective this is all new. I never even heard of it! I did a search even tho i didn't have to and I got “No results posted” back. But honestly, is it really that big a deal? I mean, i can see if GT2 was full of a million posts a day like GT3 & 4 are. In comparis0n, GT2 is really slow and people know me here. No disrespect.

None taken. :)

At least you had a reason to put it here.. much better than the n00b mistake of plopping a thread down any old place they please.. hehe.

I heard about the version for Kids, I think it is a scaled down version of GT 4 with easier controls and handling. I also heard about GT 5 and the plan to have damage included.

Personally GT's my home, I always start there to check for new threads and work my way along.

You could have posted this in the Playstation2 forum also, it´s not that busy and I think it fits this subject better. I mean, I would never think of searching the GT2 forum to talk about GT for Kids. I only saw this thread because I use the New Posts link.

Well, i'll check that PS2 forum out, then.

Parnelli Bone - are you kidding? You only post in the GT2 forum because every other forum is always loaded with people?

The GT4 forum is the only forum "loaded" with people - the other forums usually have between five and twenty people viewing - not overloaded, but enough for a good conversation. (Which, when you think about it, is the point of a forum. ;))

The title "Gran Turismo for Boys" was the first title. it was changed not long ago to "Gran Turismo for Kids" due to public relations issues. The usage of "for boys" could be taken to imply that it's not for girls and that girls can't play or race as well as boys, so the title was changed to a politically correct name.

Does anyone else find this idea stupid?

The game is aimed at boys, seeing as about 0.1% of all women in the world are into cars. So what if the game implies that girls can't play it? It doesn't have a protective laser beam around it that zaps any girl that gets too close to the game - girls are perfectly entitled to play it if they want to.

Question. What would be changed in a game "for boys"? Would the workshops be like dumbed down or something? Instead of "Racing modification", perhaps something like "awesome colours that make your car go REALLY fast!" or instead of "full brake modification", "thingie that makes your car stop better"?

But the girls would get upset and go play with their dolly's instead.

Joking aside, I think the whole idea of the game is silly. Why do Children need a special version of the game where the handling and the controls are easier or the game play is easier so they don't get bored. I'm sure there are children out there that have enjoyed the GT series as much as the adults that play the game, OK most of they may be teenagers but do children of 5 or 6 need to play GT at all? What happened to using your imgaination and playing with toy cars?

But I would probably be better playing it than GT4 so go PD, create an easy version for us helpless adults that have to have large overpowered cars to win anything!!!!

I somewhat agree that video games are unhealthy for kids. Naturally, I didn't share this opinion when I was a kid and was playing videogames (and neither did any of you, I imagine). I think Sony's milking a cash cow here. Gran Turismo is about simulation, and dumbing it down will make it just another arcade game. The kids would be better off playing Burnout 3 or something (a cool game btw :D ).

"for kids" is without doubt better than "for boys", at least in America. I don't know how the sex classes match up in Japan, but as I remember there is a predilection for boys over girls, and this may be one of the reasons for calling it "for boys". There's no way that will float over here, though. It's politically incorrect as heck. :yuck:

A GT for younger kids is not a terrible idea for younger kids. As long as it is not more Mario Kart than GT. I hope the flip side a more professional GT(a la GT5 with damage more tuning etc) comes for us "big Kids" 👍

To appeal to my nephews, perhaps they should try...

"Tony Hawk's Gran Turismo for SK8TRs"?

I'm not sure what held my nephews back in GT1.

Parents found the concept of license test more offensive than the children did difficult. I mean, the tests are mostly a true learning exercise. Perhaps a "practise entry" option in higher levels would help. Or more careful attention to making sure the simulation races available gave you opportunity to practise for the next level. Getting your A license was particularly bad in that respect; Arcade Grand Valley wasn't the same as Simulation Grand Valley, and there were no opportunities to try out the Grand-Valley A-8 test in available B license races. Or abandoning licensing altogether. :(

But even after helping my nephew through his A license, I'd fit him up with a nice fully-modified Viper GTS (because he likes Vipers), which I thought was a shoe-in for the XXvxYY series, and he couldn't quite hold it together. And it he did hold it together, he was going too slowly, and I couldn't easily identify where he was going too slowly.

The trouble is, any video game can require an awful lot of devotion. I spent hours and hours on GT1 initially. If the game just doesn't inherently appeal, that effort will not be expended. And yet strangely, if everything comes too easily, that ought to be boring, too.

I should probably go and research the real details of the actual proposal (if there are any) before yacking any further. :D

the idea is not to dumb it down or anything. Its a game not focusing on the realism of the game, but on getting kids interested in the "pure" of cars and racing, as well as TEACHING them the basics of how a car works and the physics involved.

In other words, PD wants to inform kids of today so that when they become our age they know what the heck they are talking about and aren't just NFSU losers.
Kinda like when you think about the fact that at least 90 percent of all male sports car owners somehow got it into their heads that a 3 foot "wing" somehow makes their car faster?????

*can you see the bitterness here?* lol

Ideally it would perhaps need the ability to critique exercise (license test, perhaps) attempts.

Of course, even humans have a difficult time critiquing the efforts of young children without discouraging them with apparently harsh criticism, so perhaps that would be just too difficult. It would be difficult to get the critique to be accurate, let alone positive.

Are the ghost gold runs in later games helpful to young children?

So the effort perhaps would be in introducing the need for different concepts slowly. Perhaps have initial races which can be won without using the brakes. (But that's likely what we have already).

Ah, and perhaps for children there should be "exercises" which are independent of "unlocking" the game. That is, something like your B, A, and IA licenses (etc) could sit there for you to try and improve at, but they wouldn't be the requirement for entering particular races; they would merely be a means to help you improve isolated skills.

Perhaps a more extensive replay gallery of differing exercise runs with several different times for each run would show how one driver ends up going faster than another. But I don't think most children would find that interesting enough to work their way through. Let alone the fact it might be very difficult to produce such a gallery?
