I actually bought GTA:IV in order to save money - it will virtually guarantee that a) I spend less time in the pub b) I go home for lunch more often (and hence not get ripped off by the ridiculous prices at our staff canteen (don't get me started...)) c) my mates are now more likely to come to Glasgow to see me (and play GTA:IV) rather than me having to go through to Edinburgh to see them (and go to the pub and spend loads of money in overpriced Edinburgh bars that think they are London bars)... OK, so it's a £40 initial outlay, but the projected savings for the month of May alone are estimated to be in the £50-£100 range.

You know it makes sense.

Wow, you make a good point.

:D:tup:

...and I just got the game right now! I just checked my pigeonhole at work and there it was... so in just under 50 mins, I will be going home and cranking it up :)

(plus, I got mine for under £38 )

Great justification TM. Sounds like you should leave work early so you can start saving money right away. :)

I really hope your first experience with GTA: IV is better than mine. Good luck.

 The laugh is that not one but two of my workmates are down the round as I speak trying to buy the game from local game shops!

I'm sorry to hear about your problems, though... and I have a launch 60GB PS3 too

Still, if it doesn't work, I shall calmly switch off the console, count to ten, run a hot bath, and relax...*

Ohhh.... Best of luck to you. Most of the issues reported are for the launch 60GB PS3's. Just be ready for the freezing and understand it's not the PS3's fault.

I had to watch a BR movie last night just to calm my nerves after my attempts of 'fixing' GTA: IV. Lossless PCM 7.1 audio helped, ALOT. :)

You treacherous leech, benzoboy! What happened to teamwork?!:lol:

TM, you're a genius.

Got any rationale on why I should blow off this economics paper?

Ha your future is much more important than a video game, Zrow. Just like I had the game all day yesterday but didnt play it once because I was A.) hanging out with an especially cute girl, but more importantly, B.) had a Calculus Exam to study for. haha.

We just did a unit on Soviet Russia in school, and it's amazing how many references there are! Perestroika, Comrades Bar, etc...

I just checked my Amazon order again to track my package. I realized that I placed the order exactly 1 year ago today.

Does anyone play this on an SD TV?.... if so, how does it look?
My brother's friend says it still looks good, but at nighttime it's a little too dark and can't quite see the details.

Ha. As soon as I hit reply, my UPS guy knocked on my door. I'm installing now. Also, I'm guessing that this game is adjusted for super-bright TVs. I just turned off game mode during the install screen and the background pictures went completely black.

Hey guys, don't cross the street when you're on the phone. I was just talking to Michelle while walking the crosswalk on the airport and I just got CREAMED by a police car. I laughed so hard though.

 It's the random touches they put into the game that'll do it for me.

The getting hit by a car constantly while crossing the road gets rather annoying after the fifth consecutive time.

The highway pileups are great! Unless you're crossing the highway on foot...

The damage model is sooooo much better now :)

The problem with the PS3 game is that it has more jaggies and an unpleasant blur, like vaseline on a camera lens. The 360 game has some jaggies but nowhere near as bad as the PS3 game and the picture is much sharper..

I thought it was just me! The whole game is blurry, to the point where I paused it and looked for a "sharpness" slider in the options. I'm playing it at 720p and the text is as sharp as can be, buit the blur on the gameplay is enough to distract me.

Forums aflame over GTAIV freezing

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players alike reporting crash problems with Rockstar Games' latest; publisher keeps quiet.

Last month, the launch of Rockstar Games' Bully on the Xbox 360 was marred
by a bevy of crash bugs and other glitches. With this morning's heavily anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Rockstar finds itself dealing with still more troubleshooting trouble, as online forums are buzzing with reports of crashes.

Combing through crash threads on the Xbox.com forums, Sony's official message boards, GameSpot, and the NeoGAF forums, it seems that the issues are affecting PlayStation 3 users more frequently, although gamers with both systems are reporting problems. Reports of crashes on the 60GB version of the PS3 hardware are the most common, and tech support advice like deleting and re-installing the game doesn't appear to address the issue effectively.

As of press time, Rockstar has not responded to requests for comment. A representative with Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive declined to comment on the issue.

Anyone having problems like this? Im nervous because I have a 60GB :nervous:

oh and..

Midnight GTAIV sales see stabbing, mugging

Police say one man apparently waiting in line attacked a passerby, while a teenager elsewhere was beaten up for his copy of the game.

Midnight launches aren't always the gaming industry's proudest moments. The PlayStation 3 release in particular was riddled with launch-related crimes, including a mugging, a store robbery, a launch line hold-up, and a shooting.

Grand Theft Auto IV went on sale in stores around the world at 12:01 a.m. this morning, and already reports of criminal midnight launch madness are starting to filter in. BBC News is reporting on a pair of incidents, with news of a stabbing outside a Gamestation in Croydon and a mugging by another game store in Lancashire.

According to the news service, a 23-year-old man was attacked by a knife-wielding assailant as he passed a line outside the Gamestation. The victim was treated for several stab wounds and has since been released. The attacker, who police said appeared to be waiting in the line of about 50 to 100 people, was not apprehended.

In the mugging, an 18-year-old was robbed of his copy of the game and beaten as he walked home from the store with a friend. The victim was taken to the hospital with a broken jaw and a broken nose.

Police are asking for witnesses in both cases to step forward.

Seems like some even copy the game when queuing to get the game!

Just don't turn on your TV in your apartment....you'll be laughing for hours, especialy like the parody of "the rich and famous" amazeing where they keep there toy dogs LOL
On a darker note, had 2 freezes in a total of 7 ish hours play, 60 gig PS3 not launch machine, quick reboot saw it run fine on both counts, I have noticed I cant go online...."game server busy try again later" this happened all yesterday, I'll try again tommorow.

GTA made an appearance on the daily show last night, with one of the correspondents actually reporting from liberty city.

On another note, I have a fairly early 60gig and the only problem I have had is where the game acts like it has frozen, but either because I hold the ps button or just after a couple seconds it comes back fine. I think it has happened twice now, both times I held the PS button for a couple seconds and it paused the game and brought up the ps menu.

Also picking up the game was actually nice, the local game crazy had drinks and chips being passed out along the line, and since you got a number when you arrived, you didn't have to wait in line until right before your number had been called.

EDIT: also I went online for the first time today after several "try again later" messages, a quick game of free play before work was all I had time for but it was BRILLIANT!!! This will eat my life

I hate the control scheme on the ps3, man. It's terrible. I switched to classic, but there's no way to reload on classic.

Guys I have a problem. I can't auto-aim at all. My friend says to hold left trigger down all the way and all it ever is is just free-aim it doesn't lock on to a person AT ALL. I looked at the controls menu and there is no option for auto-aim. Any ideas? I'm doing terrible at multiplayer just because of that reason. I have to free aim everything.

You need a target before you can auto-aim. You can't just auto-aim on non-hostile people.

Like GT said, best off playing it during the day or in a well lighted room as it's rather dark at times.

Can you guys gimme a summary or some information on the sexual content of the game? I'm afraid of letting my cousins get there young hands on this game. :p

Like in multiplayer where people are shooting at you? Yeah it doesn't auto aim on them either. Yes I've made sure it's on games where auto-aim is allowed.

how do you chat in mp for ps3? I have a playstation eye which should work instead of a headset. (it does on Warhawk anyways)
