Until a few hours ago, this was being advertised as Grand Theft Auto: Sin City - hinting at a Las Vegas connection... (if you do a site search for "Sin City", this is still the only result in PC & Video Games...)

31st December 2004 chaps...

(love the customer review - asshat).

I'm not sure if this is the next Grand Theft Auto..., 3 January, 2004

Reviewer: illmatic56 from Saarlouis, Germany
...but it seems as you know it.
Have you been informed by Rockstar or Take 2?

Ok, but now, the Customer Review:
I haven't played it (but I hope I'll be able to do it as soon as possible), but I played GTA 1, 2, 3 and Vice City. I heard the Renderware engine will be better than the one used in GTA Vice City - better graphic: more fun!
So, buy it, I know what im speaking of!
Grand Theft Auto forever!

That's the one. What an oaf. Reviewing a game he hasn't played - and will not be out for nearly a full 12 months!

Amazon offer some kind of prize, randomly drawn, each month to people who have written the first review of an item. It leads to this kind of tripe.

Anyway, most important point...

GTA5 looks like it's going to be set in a city bearing a striking resemblence to Las Vegas...

Good or bad? I remember Las Vegas from Driver 2, and it all seemed fairly dull. But I expect they'll be putting their own tilt on it quite severely - as they did with Miami/Vice City.

I thought that it was already established that the next GTA is unoffically GTA: San Andreas, and that Sin City was a rumor made up by some noob.

It's a rumour Amazon.co.uk are taking seriously...

Go to their homepage - https://www.amazon.co.uk/?tag=gtplanetuk-20 - and search for Sin City...

It also appeared as news in an electronic gaming magazine (I don't know if anyone outside the UK has teletext - a text news service on your TV - but that's where it appeared) in the UK.

(and it's not April Fool's Day any more :D)

The next GTA is not going to be called Sin City.

GTAGaming.com:
We have received word from Rockstar. The title of the next GTA will not be GTA IV: Sin City. They did not specify the correct title but if we follow logic then we can conclude it is San Andreas.

The release date is not correct either, but is close to the predicted date.

its not named vicecity or refering to any other games... you never know, if he did a longer revew he might of put the words "sin city" in there, so techniquely Famine can keep this the way it is.

Technically, anyone can say anything they feel like, but so what? It don't prove nothing and it don't make any rumours more or less true.

Duck!

Yep. It's all along the same lines as "Is xxxx going to be in GT4?". But it's "of interest" and reported in three different places (and it isn't April 1st any more - this was reported the day before I posted it).

Let's just hope it comes out and is good.. :D

But the next game wont be called GTA 5 because vice city wasent the 4th game.......it was more like a prequel to GTA 3....so the game will be GTA 4

Well duh! If I make a thread saying "Look, the title of the next game might actually be "GTA: Sin City" - even after the initial denial", I'm not going to be thinking it's actually called GTA5, am I?

Why would they call it GTA4 anyway? If I remember correctly (and I came to the GTA series with VC, so I might not have remembered correctly), Vice City was the FIFTH game in the GTA series, after GTA, GTA2, GTA London (which few people actually count at all) and GTAIII.

Still, we'll all find out when GTA4/GTA5/GTA San Andreas/GTA Sin City comes out...

they have registered several names under the GTA franchise - and none of them have numbers. Check this link...
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/462/462261p1.html

January 12, 2004 - While everyone else was running around doing some last-minute Christmas shopping, Take-Two Interactive registered 10 Grand Theft Auto-related trademarks on December 17 and 21, 2003, including both GTA: Sin City and GTA5. If you have been following the news on GTA recently, you probably already know this.

But there is more to the GTA trademark story than first revealed. More than three or four GTA-related name were registered in December. Eight of these trademarks were registered on December 17. The ones you already know about are GTA5, GTA6 and GTA: San Andreas.

However, several more were registered, including five more trademarked names, GTA: Sin City, Grand Theft Auto: Sin City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and the entirely unheard of Grand Theft Auto: Bogota and GTA: Bogota.

It gets even better. Four days later, on December 21, 2003, when even fewer people were paying attention, Take-Two Interactive also registered another one entirely new prospective title, GTA: Tokyo and Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo.

It's clear Take-Two has long-term plans for GTA, this we knew and expected, given it's the most popular series on PS2 and arguably the most influential game in this generation of systems. And, without using too much brainpower, we knew that the franchise would continue moving from town to town, both exciting and smart.

With so many names trademarked at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office web site for the series, it's likely that two things are happening: 1) A few of these names are red herrings to keep fans guessing as to the next locale, or 2) they're names for games appearing in the long-term future. We tried to contact representatives at Rockstar, but at press time we have not had any official reply. We'll have more on the GTA series very soon.

Who gives a **** what number it will or won't be?

As far as I'm concerned they can call it "Grand Theft Auto 17 - The Smell of Fear!" as long as it's got the kind of gameplay, weapons, missions, vehicles, etc. that I've come to expect from GTA3 and Vice City. It's still a year off so it's not exactly keeping me awake at night, but I'd like to see a GTA game next December that improves upon Vice City in the same way that Vice City improved upon Grand Theft Auto 3.

KM!

i want to see a game that improves on vice like GTA3 did on GTA 2. somthing totally different so its not too much the same

they should focus more on... like better graphics because they focused too much on gameplay in GTAVC so this time the graphics should Kick! but i doubt it. i've seen screen shots of an early version of San Andreas looked the same just the cars were glossy like real cars and buildings were incredible but stuff like the characters was still the same

All this talk about what city GTA is gonna be named after got me thinking, why only one city? Different cities like in GTA1 wouldnt surprise me at all. (you can actually make use of the airports now).

Edit: just read that ign articel, GTA : BOGOTA, talk about a funny name.

Oh God, let's not let this thread turn into one of those in which you state what you want in the next GTA.

Oh come on Acidman! You know you're just dying for someone to post a laundry list of things like ninjas, X-Ray vision, hard core pornography and time travel that they want in the next game.
