Graphics card assistance needed

My old system had a P4HT 3ghz, and an AGP 7600GT and that seems to be a fairly good combo. AGP 7600s are fairly cheap these days, but for futureproofing sakes I'd get a new motherboard with PCI-E, a cheap Core 2 or Athlon X2, some DDR2 RAM and an 8800GT or whatever you decide on. It will be more expensive than just buying a new card for your current system, but it will be much much much quicker and will also be easily upgradeable in the future should you choose to do that. :)

sounds like i've got some saving up to do

I'd suggest getting:

EVGA 650i motherboard (or a 680i if you want to be able to run SLI...The SE version runs $150 or so)
Intel Core 2 Duo or Quad (look for one that is E6x50, any of those will be great)
EVGA 8800GT
at least 2GB DDR2-800Mhz RAM, I recommend Patriot's Extreme Performance line

Well, if you're going to go that route, you might as well drop another $500 on a second video card and $400 on a couple WD Raptor SATA drives you can run in RAID.

Or really get crazy and go for the Black Perl water cooled version of the eVGA mobo and run water cooling throughout. :)

thanks for the help guys you've given me a lot to go on. hell, this is turning out to be more of a minefield than i thought :nervous:

He'd only need to drop $250-300 for a second 8800GT. ;)

Poolio, if you need any assistance feel free to send me an IM/PM.

I just ordered a Geforce 6800XT 256MB 128bit AGP card. I know it's somewhat weak but I think it's already too much for my current PC, a Celeron D 2.53GHz with 1GB of DDR ram. That should be the last upgrade I make to it, maybe a P4 3.0 HT next year but I think it should be better to upgrade to a C2D already.
