GTPlanet, welcome to yet another thread of mine.
If you follow college football, you know that some of the greatest rivalries are Ohio State/Michigan, Army/Navy, and USC/UCLA among others. If you follow the NFL, there are Minnesota/Green Bay, and the latest of them, Houston/Dallas. College basketball, you have Duke/UNC for example. Baseball is well underway, and Yankees/Red Sox is possibly the biggest rivalry. But other than sports, this one is about car rivalries. You see, when one car is built, it can be designed to give other car makers a chance to compete for dominance. But in this thread, which cars have produced some of the greatest rivalries in the world? It can be two cars, maybe even three, or four or more. If they had scores to settle and it's been a long-going battle, welcome to this thread. Now I'll start, so I want to make a small note. For those around the world, maybe there are car battles you may know on your side of the world. Please note, this is a discussion of car rivalries, not between two different racers or race teams. Okay, I'll start.
I think one of the more significant rivalries here in America has to be Camaro vs. Mustang. Horsepower-crazy Americans know that they been duking it out for quite some time. Chevy and Ford is still one of the most highly contested battles in automobile history, if not American automobile history. They've gone from SCCA Trans-Am of the early days, all the way up to the tracks NASCAR run. Personally, I've been more of a Chevy fan. Didn't really see myself as a Ford person. I got much respect for the Mustang, but I've always thought the Camaro looked more like a bullet going down the road, especially the ones of 1994 and after. The Mustang (no offense) was a representation of how American brutes should be. The Mustang was more boxy and powerful. The regular Mustang, the Boss 302, Mustang Mach 1, all the way up to the Mustangs of today. It's still a great shame that the Camaro had ceased production, but I think that the Camaro and Firebird made for sweet American cars. They can still turn heads. These F-Body GM cars were the creme de la creme of "kicking butt and looking good doing it." The Mustang, however, is all-business. It is a cool machine with a burning hot engine. Chevy and Ford will probably never end as long as these two still make hot machines. I would go out on a limb and say that Chevy vs. Ford is as big in the automotive world as Ohio State vs. Michigan in college football.
Talk about some of the world's biggest car rivalries and tell us about how deep their rivalry is, what may have started it, which you like better, or whatever else you want to talk about. See you later!
