ps. I'm reading the Gilles Villeneuve biography at the moment and it mentions his early beginnings at Mont Tremblant, so it's a nice bonus that i can visualize this thrill of a track thanks to GAS now 👍, thanks for including it.

It's kind of funny, I'm Canadian but I've never liked Villeneuve.

I just had my first Hypercar race. And it was around the San Francisco Grand Prix circuit, or as it shall be known from now on, the San Francisco Car Breaker. In fifteen laps, no less than five drivers crashed out, and almost everyone carried some battle damage. In my case, I bent my steering, ruined my radiator, destroyed my exhaust, and my Zonda was in tatters by the end of it. I still fared better than my team-mate, who finished the race without body panels.

Sounds like a standard street race to me! The AI aren't even close to great when it comes to racing them, but at least some of the mistakes they make give you the impression that they are not on rails...

I love the smell of a new game.

No Grid 2 though!
No DiRT Showdown either. I heavily disliked the direction CM took with the games. Never considered them being worthy of a spot in my modest collection of CM games.

We'll be expecting your post in the first impressions thread this weekend

I'll make sure to post in the 'First Impressions' thread on monday. Busy weekend ahead; attending wedding among other things.

@Hyland I am sure you are going to have fun :D Enjoy!
If the quick session in Time Attack I did in the Sierra Cosworth around San Fransisco is anything to go by, fun is guaranteed.

I forgot about Showdown, a good time waste but it isn't for everyone's taste that one. Grid 2 though is up there and IMO shouldn't be overlooked.

Dusted off the 360 to try out a copy of this. The controller handling seems a little squiffy in places but the race structure is great so far.

Trying to control your co-driver with the D-pad is like running A-spec and B-spec at the same time and the ability to extend races means this should take a lot longer to finish then GRiD 2.

wooohoooo! You did it! Good job! Now... go have fun :D
I've been playing since 1PM today and so far, the game is superb. I've done two season in the Touring category, ripped Mont Treblant a new one (also two seasons in the Open Wheel category) and crushed puny Ravenwest in my first Tuner season.

Looking at my statistics, out of 35 races, I've won 6 so far - with a win ratio sitting at 17%. Regardless finish position, it feels rewarding at hard difficulty. The AI is competitive, ruthless, makes mistakes and genuinely fun racing against. The game does really offer some fantastic pack racing. I hope this trend continues with future titles.

👍

Edit :

I didn't know general concensus was such, well I enjoyed it anyway! Livery editor is a big thing to me...
Those who enjoyed and were huge fans of the first one, GRID2 was a major disappointment. It detoured from everything that made its predecessor great. Thankfully, they're back on track with Autosport.

Argh, getting frustrated with the AI. I'm trying to do the GRID Masters' Trophy, but the field leaves a lot to be desired - they're all bashers. I was just doing a Street event at Okutama, and I think I got hit by every single driver at some point or another.

Shame Colin Mcrae rally didn't continue with the same concept, and they turned the series a bit juvenile after his passing.

I dunno, I think that it sort of followed Colin's own career. Colin retires from top-flight rally - Codies retires from top-flight rally games. Colin moves into more 'alternative' off road racing (like Rally America/X-Games and rally-raid) - DiRT incorporates more Rally America/X-Games and raid racing.

The series needed a star driver to take the helm, so they naturally chose the most charismatic (Ken Block). He bought his own brand of motorsport to the table.

Aaaand my game save just got corrupted. Tried deleting it and copying from my backup and still doesn't work. Wow. Just wow Codemasters. The exact same thing happened with Grid 2 and their F1 games and they still never do proper Q&A before release. Now I'm out of action until October because they will only release a patch once they're done putting out their cash cow DLCs...

Not buying another CM product ever again. Period.

You do know that these things come about as a result of a highly specific set of circumstances, right? Odds are that Codemasters figure out what was causing save file corruption in GRID 2 and fixed it for all subsequent releases. Whatever was causing the corruption in the F1 games would gave been likewise identified and fixed. Do whatever caused your problem this time around is likely to be something new.

True, but having the same problem again and again, game after game means they really need to rethink how saving is programmed into their games. I owned 20+ games on PS3 over 6 years and the only problems I have with gamesave corrupting is with CM games. It's ridiculous. If they're quick with their patches that's forgivable, because I understand that software sometimes do have bugs that escape Q&A no matter how stringent. Like with the latest GT6 update where changing wheels would freeze the game, PD instantly released a hotfix the next day. But in Grid 2 I waited 2 months just for a patch while they released multiple DLCs in the meantime.

That should give you an idea of their priorities. A company like that isn't worth supporting IMO.

@LeGeNd-1 I've played quite a bit with F1 games and put in an hour or 20-30 already with GAS so far, and didn't have it happening once (knock wood). Are you doing something specific when this happens, does the game freeze and you switch of the PS3's power?

Also quite odd that your backup save doesn't copy to your PS, can you explain what happens if you try to restore?

Nope, I haven't done anything out of the ordinary. I'm always really careful to save from the options menu, and wait until the saving icon in lower right screen to disappear before quitting the game. I can copy my backup to my PS, but it still shows the gamesave corrupt message.

Based on Grid 2, the gamesave is actually alright, but the game refused to read it for some reason. In Grid 2 it happens after the update for DLC, but I haven't bought any DLC for GAS so I'm not sure what triggered it this time. It's just bad luck who it happened to, judging by reports from the Codemasters forum.

I have done the impossible (and that makes me mighty) - I just finished a season of Formula A that Ravenwetr DIDN'T win. K&N were first and second in the drivers' championship and first in the teams', and I was third.

Has anyone had problems reading the small text on the PS3 for GAS (I'm running it @ 720P), and if so, have you found a solution?
