The only place I have seen regular problems is the first corner at Spa Reverse.

I have seen the occasional catastrophic pile-up, most notably around Paris, but nothing repetitive unless I restart the race, in which case an accident seems to be scripted. If I quit completely and re-enter, nothing happens.

AI is likely based on some random seed, to determine their starting actions and give them some sense of not being the same away from the line every single time.

I wouldn't be surprised if the random seed was reset when you exit and re-enter a race, but not when you restart.

Which will be why if people have issues in the first corner, they're likely to see them again on the restart, because the only thing that will be different is how the player car moves, which may not even be within perceptual range for the cars having the accident. Which would also explain why it's hard to bugfix every single opening scenario so that the AI don't crash.

And statistics would explain why some people are getting a horrendous run of crashes in the first corner. If you get enough people rolling dice, some of them are going to get huge streaks of snake eyes. It's unlucky for them, but totally expected when looking at the total population.

Still, it's an easy fix: Reroll the random seed on race reset. If you get one of the dud first corners, you can reset and have a shot at a fresh one.

It looks like even the pc version doesn't have remove steering wheel option or fov, seat position, etc. adjustments? I'm sure I'll grab this at some point, and I suppose I'll end up going bonnet view.... again.

Seems like you guys are getting plenty out of it though.

All platforms have the 'remove steering wheel' option..... but you need to have a steering wheel connected for the option to become available.

It seems that every AI driver has some kind of range of positions that they can comfortably run in for each discipline. The longer they are out of position, then the more likely it is that they will have an accident. For example, Razer's Diego Gomez tends to make bigger mistakes, and tends to make them more frequently the closer to the front he is. If he's in the bottom third, he's fine. If he's in the mid-pack, he'll probably leave the circuit at some point. But if he's in the top five, he tends to cause major crashes. Each time he moves into a different bracket, the likelihood of a mistake is reset.

@anim8r_uk Thank you, that's probably the most important one covered. But hot damn did the detailed adjustments I made to the view in Assetto Corsa bring a lot to the party. Would've loved to have those too.

^^ You can bet those are coming in future releases.

Apart from the blurry cockpit views, I think ALL other views are very exciting to drive from. Personally, bumper cam is my fav. Though the engine sounds are killer from cockpit.

Bah, Westley!

I've been re-doing a six race touring car championship, and after taking five wins, two poles, and the odd fast lap, I was in the box seat to take the title ... and then Arron Bloody Westley turned me around on the penultimate lap. Didn't even try to pass me - just went straight into my rear corner. Between a puncture and damage to my exhaust, I limped through the last two laps, and only just managed to salvage a handful of points.

And so, like Rick Kelly punting Craig Lowndes off at Philip Island in 2006, Westley took the title.

Surely the cockpit is blurred to simulate peripheral vision? I liked it personally. I really don't use cockpit view because in most games it's just showing off the complete fascia in focused detail and it ruins the illusion immediately.

@anim8r_uk: This might be a first, I don’t know.

This is an Online-specific problem: I have it with both my Lola B12/80 and Mini John Cooper Works Challenge. When I go to check out either car, the game tells me that the sale price is $0. So I try to get rid of it, but I can’t because of an Internal Error. And, after every race I finish with either one of these cars, the game freezes after everyone finishes.

Is there any way I can get them to work like all of my other cars? Or, failing that, have them both deleted from my save data?

I've sent this to customer support, so there may be some light in this if you don't have a concrete answer.

No flashbacks eh :D

I don't really like using flashbacks, like. Was racing in Dubai when one car stopped on the racing exit line. I drove clean into him with like red steering and other orange things and opted to finish the race like that :) although I got quite annoyed when it passed me out, and then even more annoyed when another messed up car tried pass me. I tried, aggressively, to keep him behind but eventually conceded my position :/

No, I use unlimited flashbacks - but I map them to an awkward button and don't use them. It effectively limits the XP bonus to 20% instead of the 33% or more I would get with no flashbacks, and slows progress through the game.

Shift 2's blurred cam is perfect. It goes in and out of focus depending on speed and corners. It's perfect; you still get to see the fine work done inside the cockpit.

The cockpit in GRID AS happens to be blurred for peripheral vision by chance; rather it's done not to drain resources. Since it's on consoles too, I think this was a good decision on Codies' part. Otherwise console gamers would have stirred up a storm about not getting a proper cockpit view, and the PC version getting it. At least that's how it might have played out if they had included a proper cockpit cam with functional dials.

If it were a PC exclusive, they would have done it for sure. But then again, dev time was very limited.

Good things are in wait - only a matter of time before GRID comes on current gen consoles with all the bells and whistles.

Season 45 and still no K&N :banghead:

On another note, I just discovered that re-doing the Championships with Ravenwest changes the marking on the posters and award cards. Shame there aren't a bigger prize for re-doing them all though.

And on the subject of shift-up-oversteer, I found that if you rev all the way to the limit (above redline) then shift, the oversteer is not as bad. In automatic the game also shifts on the limit, not at redline. What's the point of the redline then Codies?

I have been winning every championship for every discipline and I noticed that my upcoming team offers don't change that much but yesterday, I went back to the first set of events on the Endurance discipline and immediatly found K&N.

Have you ever driven an Auto IRL? The tacho usually stops just short of the red line.

If it bothers you, just go with manual.

I really don't know I'm afraid. Customer support is the best option as they'll take it directly to the correct department.

I'm on that right now; just got a reply from CusSup, and it goes like this:

Rob
This is a known issue and will be fixed in a forthcoming patch. In the meantime, you should still be able to play with your other vehicles.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Does anyone else have this problem, or am I alone here?

Nice, that gives me hope at least. I hate it when games make something completely random. I'm all for replay value, but that should come from fun gameplay, not making unlockables random.

No, I haven't revved a real life engine anywhere close to redline. I think you misunderstood my post though. The best shift point in-game is ABOVE redline. If you shift below it you'll get wheelspin when the next gear engages. And I have been using MT since day 1, but yesterday I tried AT and the game does shift ABOVE redline also. Which begs my question - if the cars in this game needs to be revved all the way to the limit (above redline), then there's no point putting the redline there because it's artificial (there's no engine damage and no performance gains). In GT there is no engine damage either, but the in-game AT shifts at redline at least.

I know Grid isn't trying to be a sim, but putting a penalty for shifting below redline (as you should IRL) is just weird.

There's a penalty for it? That IS wierd.

IMO, you should shift just short of the red line for optimal acceleration. In most not too powerful cars, the "acceleration efficiency" reduces as you approach the red line. So say, your car red line's at 7000 rpm, 6700 or 6800 would be ideal. It's only in the really powerful high revving engines that you'd want to hit the red line or go beyond it a little, before shifting.

I'm guessing it's one of those things developers like to be clever about. It's like GTA V's letter scraps, or MGS GZ's audio tapes - you could play through the entire game without ever knowing that they're there, unless you fulfil a very specific set of conditions first.

Yeah, shifting too early gives you wheelspin (unlike real life where short shifting is usually used to CURE wheelspin). It's particularly prevalent with some cars (Formula C, Formula B, GT-R GT500, 787B, Panspeed RX7) when shifting from 1st-2nd or 2nd-3rd. Try it yourself if you don't believe me. First corner at Spa is perfect for testing this. The only cure I have is to lift off while shifting, but even then the timing is a bit inconsistent.

It's a shame because this little glitch is the only thing keeping me from enjoying the physics 100%.

Season 45 and still no K&N :banghead:
I think I might stand a chance at unlocking them in my current season. I'm doing the second championship under Tier 2 in Touring - Super Utes at Mount Panorama, Minis at Jarama Reverse (Cup), and Cat-B Touring at Hockenheim Short B and the Red Bull Ring.

After the first round and the cup race, I got K&N's Alex Cote as my event rival for Hockenheim. I beat him in both races, and his team-mate, Stefano Bruno, in the second. Going into the Red Bull Ring round, five drivers can win the title - me (Razer), the K&N drivers, and the Ravenwests. I haven't done the races yet - 40 laps over two races is a big event - but I'm hoping that because Cote was my event rival in Hockenheim, I might be able to unlock K&N.

I'll let you know how it goes once I'm done.

Can anyone help me understand car classes in Grid? Because there are some which I don't recognize in real life.

Let's see:

Cat C Touring - WTCC, BTCC
Cat B Touring - ? Can't be DTM.
Cat A Touring - No idea

GT Group 2 - Blancpain Endurance Series, GT3, VLN N24
GT Group 1 - Super GT GT500
GT Ultimate - World Endurance Championship, European/Asian Le Mans Series, Tudor SportsCar Championship

Formula C - Formula 3
Formula B - GP2
Formula A - IndyCar Series

So there's two touring car classes which I can't trace into real life...

I believe Cat-B contains older-model DTM cars, from the time before BMW joined. Super Utes are V8 Utes, a support series to V8 Supercars.

Cat-A is Stock Car Brasil; Super Tourers are V8 Supercars.

And I believe Formula B is actually A1GP.

Right I forgot about the V8 Supercars/Utes series.

The thing is the Cat B cars are too similar to the production models. DTM cars are pretty much silhouette racecars with not much in common with the road cars. And it seems I haven't ever watched Stock Cars Brasil, hence I had no idea.

Will have to re-check about Formula B.

EDIT: I looked at Stock Car Brasil and now I have a question, what is that ADC Presteza? Is it even real?
