Uhh how about no, you're wrong

Wow, 5 track days? Tell us Herr Schumacher how should we be racing this? I am assuming you are #1 now in GT Academy since with your 5 track day experience, and comments like above you should decimate all.

Not only are you wrong, you have no clue as well. One of the principles taught at every major racing school is the use of rearend rotation. How you do that is by managing the slip of your rear tires, which is tough with race tires but can be done, its when you really are on the knifes edge, and what separates the men from the boys. However when driving a car in a low grip situation (ie a 370z on crappy tires) you can manage some rearend rotation using the handbrake to lightly brake the rear tires to start a tiny slide, then use throttle management to push the car through the turn and hold that slide.

But you knew that already, with your 5 track days under your belt you're an authority. :sly:

Beautiful write up, I will toss you a premium membership later tonight when I get off from work.👍👍

Autocross and road racing are two very dissimilar racing genres.

And it still doesn't matter, if you are doing time attacks and use the e-brake to get the car into a controlled slide (people do this in rallyes, hillclimbs or really small tracks in real life often) in real life, you wouldn't get any trouble, unless you lose the control of the car and hurt some people, but that can also happen with a "normal" spin or whatever.

This thread is completely out of control and apparently everyone discussing this topic is an expert in their own minds.

Thank you G.T.Ace. We are all merely stating the obvious.

Well the OP is complaining about a subject that is used in real world racing that should be disable from a racing sim. This topic isn't out of control, the OP is uneducated in this topic and others are just trying to fill him or her in with what is true.

Well the rules doesn't say anything about the handbrakes so I guess we are allowed to use it. It would be very easy for them to have put on its official rules, no handbrake allowed but oh well. Like some of you said in here, if you are given use it. It would have been nice of them to have given the host a option against handbrake, it's not hard to implement it still. Yes it's too late now for this but not too late for the whole game.

Really, you think you would get kicked out for using the e-brake during an autocross? Do you think that heel and toe is cheating online? Should I stop using techniques I learned during autocross just so you can keep up with the pack? Why do you think the e-brake is only used for drifting? You probably should do more research on the topic at hand. 5 track days huh? What are you driving on the track?

LOL. An autocross is not what i would call a track day. If you are faster in real life using the ebrake then I suggest you work on your driving techniques. It may work on the tightest hairpins autox hairpins but not corners like in the gt academy.

this is what I drive on the track

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Show me real world racing where people are using the hand brake around 2nd gear corners to be much faster than not

I don't understand what is wrong with using a part built into almost every car racing or otherwise. There is no reason to make it illegal, disable or remove it. It is the "real driving simulator" isn't it?

As I said, everyone is an expert in their own mind. This is the internet and as far as I know you are Yannick Dalmas and the OP is Harald Ertl arisen from the dead, and both are bound and determined to prove that they are correct.

NO need for videos, just upload the top runners and will see the red handbrake light indicator. Oh no don't get me wrong, I am not against either but for a competition this big, it would have been nice to have done something about it.

I don't see what's wrong with using all of the tools in the shed. Racers should find any advantage and use it! Ask Earnhardt, Schumacher, or even Vettel. Without using the grey areas they would not have been as successful. Or am I missing something here? Thanks for telling me about the ebrake stuff, I'll try it out tonight.

Almost every race car has a handbrake?????

as if it wasn't already clear enough that you were talking out of your ass

Ah, a BMW owner, that explains a lot

Me? You really have no clue at all and your need to post your E30 BMW on a track like its some badge of honor that justifies your BS proves it even more. Take a look at a pair of rear AP race calipers, or Brembo, etc, they ALL have hand brake provisions. Take a look in many touring cars, GT race car, prettymuch any other type of race car excluding a NASCAR stock car or anything open wheel, you will find a hand brake in full working order. Do they all have it? No, some drivers have no desire for it, and in series that use full slicks its near worthless. But it IS available and many drivers use it in race series where full slick tires are not in the regulations.

Where could i get a hold of a few of these videos to look at? Im from the UK so unsure if i can get hold of the video of a US Academy video myself.

So are you. You are complaining about something that is on a stock 370Z. Also, on tight corners the handbrake can be faster and often is. No sense disabling a real world technique. If you don't like to use it, don't. Others will use it because it is A.)faster, B.)an actual technique. I too have been to track days and while I don't use the handbrake, many people do around tight hairpins.

I was asked my track experience. I responded that i'd done 5 track days.

You blew up on that like I was trying to say i was king of the world when when i was just answering a question.

The asker of that question responded doubtfully and asked what i drove. I posted a picture of me on the track

you blew up on that like I think i am king of the world because i own a $2500 car.

First of all, there is seriously something wrong with you and i suggest that you see a doctor/shrink. You have serious anger/imagination issues.

Second, hardly any "racing" calipers incorporate a hand brake function. Mainly just the small crappy ones that would never be used on a real race car anyways.

there is a difference between a tight hairpin and a second gear corner. I'm not complaining that its there, im complaining that its not realistic. I suggested they remove it because it would be a lot faster than redesigning the physics to be realistic.

You might have a point in this post. But it is completely covered by your retarded thing against BMW owners. Someone asked him what car he tracks. So he posted a picture of the car on a track. Seems like that is what was asked for... Idiot.

I've downloaded the #1 top time on Rome and Tsukuba in my region, he used it twice to slow his car slightly in a corner to slow down without losing front wheel tractions and maximise his speed through the corner, this ain't cheating or an exploit. At first I tought people complained about the same bug as Forza, where you can apply the handbrake over the brakes, giving you a virtual extra set of wheels, to considerably reduce brake distances.

May I ask where the OP-nickmp0wer is ranked at the moment in the competition ?. I would have thought that since you have some real life Experience of being on a race track, that getting into the top 30 or however many make it to the next stage, would be something you could do quite easily.I am not saying the use of the handbrake is right or wrong TBH,but I dont agree with you calling it a flaw. There was the ability to use the clutch in GT Academy 1 and a mix of both people made it to the next round, people who used it and those that did not.My advice would be for you to get your head down and work on getting through to the next stage, dont worry about the handbrake saga as that will sort its self out by stage two.

Good luck with the competition.

I didn't register, but i agree with the OP. The handbrake would not be used under these racing conditions in real life racing.

hey, last night i was 13th at tsukuba, the only one I've tried thus far. i am sure i am way down now, especially as people are becoming aware of the ebrake haha. I will post my time and place after i have another go, I think the time was 1:05.830. Thanks for the advice

Hmmmm never saw a WTCC or BTCC car like the bmw 3 series, or any car from those classes do a handbrake turn. Never saw a peugeot 908 hdi do a handbrake turn.
Now i think about it, i never saw a car do a handbrake turn unless it was drifting or, rallying. Because it can be done, doesn't mean you should do it.
It isnt really that realistic because a couple times on tarmac and your tires are worn out.
Even if the tires are comfort tires, a handbrake turn is never good for any tyre.
That's why they don't do it in real life ;)

The handbrake is a cornering exploit in this game, and not in a realistic manner at all. The reason it helps is because lift-off oversteer is weak, which makes rotating a car into a corner unnecessarily difficult (understeer). There's nothing hugely wrong with the way the handbrake behaves on its own, but it acts as a "fix" for other flaws in the physics engine.

For those of you seeking "proof" or a video, I lack the capability to provide it, but I would highly recommend you go try it on one of the license tests you found most troublesome -- see if it's easier to get gold using a few taps of the handbrake to help make the corners (not too much, just enough to tuck the nose in). That's how I noticed this problem.

For an event planning to stick the winner into a real racecar, the fact that you can place faster times using an arcade-like exploit is rather ridiculous.

Exactly. After having watched it, I am even more sure that the OP needs to calm down. He didn't use it maliciously and only used it twice. Also, both times he used it, it was used to keep from locking the fronts and to decrease speed a tad. This is absolutely nothing to worry about, nor was it the reason he was fast.

Well you at least explained why it could be called an "exploit".
I never experienced this in the game so far, so yes, that is kinda stupid although I wouldn't say it's a huge issue.

I think it should be patched in the second round, third, etc rounds. Leave this round as it is. As long as you put in some reasonable effort and are actually fast and know how to driver, making the top 128 should not be that hard. Also this should be in the GT Academy section.

Your condescending tone in all your posts regarding how a hand brake works and how it is used in racing is why I responded as I did.

You've completely dismissed anything anyone has said in this post about a handbrake actually being used in racing and real life.

And as for your comment about no racing calipers having hand brake provisions, you're wrong. There are plenty of non "small crappy" ones used in race cars all the time that have them. Heck the 4 piston Brembos on the back of my car right now have them. Or buy a Porsche GT3 cup car, its not even street legal, and has a handbrake. Do a little research before making a comment like this.

You might have a point in this post. But it is completely covered by your retarded thing against BMW owners. Someone asked him what car he tracks. So he posted a picture of the car on a track. Seems like that is what was asked for... Idiot.

You are correct I apologize for the comment about BMW owners, it was out of line. The posters condescending attitude towards anyones opinion other than his own got the best of me.

I really would like to see a vid of this to see what people are raving about (don't say download a replay as i cant connect my PS3 to the internet) Is somone just tapping the handbrake in order to turn in sharper?
