chance to get a fully-paid route in professional motorsport for free..

Or..

Pay for some content for a game which is 1.5 years old..

Are people seriously thinking this is a choice? I take the chance to get a fully-paid motorsports drive! Why on earth would you rather have some more content to buy instead of a free chance to win an amazing opportunity?

not everyone gets the chance!

GT Academy is the dream - and it creates well over half of Gran Turismo's worldwide publicity. I'm pretty damn sure we wouldn't get licenses such as Ferrari or Lamborghini if Sony/PD/Nissan were not organising things like GT Academy. The whole image of Gran Turismo is greatly enhanced by GT Academy, especially when one (or even all!) of the graduates do well. It gives GT a kind of authenticity and a link to motorsport success. If you want manufacturers to include licenses or even bend over backwards putting their models in old or new, this is the kind of thing that must go on.

I'm not surprised that once again people are mis-understanding a piece of software as equivelant work on something else. Creating the GT Academy software does not mean we are losing a DLC pack. Just as creating 10 Nissan Skylines does not mean we are losing 10 Ferraris. GT Academy is good for everybody.

Turn10 gets those licenses and more without organizing a Forza Academy. Also it only got *some* notoriety in the latest dubai 24h coverage, but nothing more that's *significant*.

And it does mean that. Working on something means not working on something else, even if it means one ferrari.

Having a driver in the 24 Hours of Le Mans isn't significant? Having a six episode show on SPEED Network isn't significant? Am I missing something?

But it doesn't, you can't work on another Ferrari if you don't have the license for it or the budget. You guys like to over-simplify things way too much, assuming that because PD are working on *something* must mean they have the time, manpower, money and ability to instead work on whatever you want instead.

It doesn't work like that.

Turn 10 also doesn't have quite the same number of licenses that PD does...

And several major motorsports media have published articles on the progress of GT Academy. Drives in the LMS and at Le Mans are pretty significant.

Do you think GT5 sold more due to those? That's just some advertising directed towards people who won't buy a console, a wheel and the game just because of it.

In 2012 dubai 24h the announcers mentioned GT academy and the game like every 30 minutes, which is a bit of a step forward but nothing more.

IDK why some GTP users refuse to acknowledge the fact PD is way behind the times, and that since GT4 it's been losing badly in terms of sells and game quality.

I assume you are currently working on a major gaming company, or you are just making things up.

Simply put, what PD's competition does is to outsource some work because they don't have the manpower, just like PD doesn't. I'd prefer using all the money that went into GT academy into paying another company to model the 800+ remaining standard cars.

I don't see how making a couple of cars in DLC is going to sell more copies of GT5 if we're going to use that as a reasoning against GT Academy...

Not game copies but it's still money. First DLC pack sold more than 1,000,000 copies total, which goes into paying salaries and hopefully not having to wait 6 more years to get a new game while its competition does it every 2 years, and its new games aren't mostly reused material from 2004 like what "we" get.
Also those are a part of GT5 XL.

And I just edited the other post.

That would be the worst marketing job ever. 'Hey I an idea, let's market to a large group of people who won't use our product.' Of course fans of autos and racing are the people who would buy that stuff.

That's exactly why they do it. I guarantee there were people watching the GT Academy on SPEED who like what they saw in the game and bought it because of it. Same with finding out about it through races. I also guarantee there are IRacer's and other sim racers who have bought or will buy a PS3 and GT5 to give winning GT Academy a chance. But again it's marketing that Sony wouldn't do unless they got something out if it.

Ok im Threw with GT5 (joking lol...) Forza newest Car Pack have 2 of my Favorite 2012s and one Oddball!!!

2012 Hennessey Venom GT
2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (will just be interesting how it performss with 400hpfrom the new V6!)
2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 ( wont be that much of a performer but its a car i wanna customize!!

Im sort of gettin annoyed with "GT Academy" It does nothing for those who just wanna enjoy the GAME... or who want to drive thier Favorite cars... I bet inJune- July T10 will have the Rally Cross Dart with the SRT Viper for DLC.. I BET!

Guess it worked superbly considering GT5 sold a lot less than older games in the franchise, and also in comparison to current racing games since GT4. It simply doesn't work like that.

Most probably Forza4 got more sales just by having JC and a proper usage of the TG license, which costs easily less than 10% of what's been spent on GT academy and sponsoring teams over the years.

Finally, my problem with GT academy is that PD is wasting money while they haven't released a top notch game in more than 7 years.

While PD and Kaz were fooling around with that and other events, its competition stepped up. Now it's safe to say GT5 doesn't achieve a podium finisher in anyone's list really. It isn't the most fun to play by any means (which is the point of a console game), it isn't a simulator and it even struggles being a good simcade, doesn't have the most content especially if you only consider what meets 2010-2012 standards (less than half the tracks and 1/4 cars), fails hard in various technical aspects, among others.

Just ask people what they'd prefer. A new GT academy event or just one new DLC pack with only 4 cars.
I haven't seen a single person complaining about too few GT academies a year or few spots in the live events, that their favorite racing team isn't sponsored by PD/Sony or that they demand Kaz to participate in GP2.

We're getting way off topic but I will just end with differences in sales between GT5 and others in the series have nothing to do with GT Academy.

GT Academy for me, even though I know I've got no chance of winning it! It's free and will include a new set of free cars and a minor possibility of a few other treats whereas DLC has to be payed for. The Academy therefore provides a new aspect to the game and new cars. It's a win-win situation and all for the best price!

Where has it been said the GT Academy download will give you free items in your GT5 data?

Anyways, I chose GT Academy. Already enough DLC for me.

In the press release it states that prizes won in the Academy trials can be transferred to GT5. Well i'm guessing (along with 99% of the active members on here) that it will be a new batch of Nissans from a Leaf Academy up to the GTR Academy and possibly a few new surprises. It's an 8 week event after all!

From the news page article; "The announcement also confirms that “rewards” or “gifts” earned in the GT Academy 2012 game can be transferred for use Gran Turismo 5."

The concept of GT-Academy is a stroke of genius on more than just a marketing level, it used to be (and still is) that becoming a racing driver involved more than only raw talent, it required huge finances or at least a willingness by others to grant you an opportunity to show it (unlike, say football or tennis).
Theoretically now that gap or luck-factor has been made significantly smaller (you still need the hardware, read a proper wheel to even make a chance I guess) and therefor people who wouldn't have otherwise, through a karting career at a young age, can become a professional racing driver.

That may not simply change the impact of videogames or the sales of GT-games but, on a small level for now admittingly, change the face of motorsports, as it now includes racers who probably wouldn't race if it weren't for GT-Academy.
Yes ofcourse it only makes a few really happy (hello, it's a competition) but it breaks the boundaries of motorsport only being for the 'happy few'.
So far the bleeding obvious, which I thought needed to be said, but which explains that GT-Academy is here to stay and thus logical to expect the next installment.
That it coincides with a lack of DLC for a few months is unfortunate (although maybe not strictly unrelated) but I think choosing between them is a false and irrelevant proposition.

Personally I look forward much more to new DLC since I'm a mostly talentless DS3 user who won't stand a chance in this competition and even when I somehow would set a winning time, my, ahem, physical condition would without a doubt ensure I'd fail miserably in the next round (doing push ups and running around? pass).
But that doesn't mean I complain about GT-Academy, even though I'll admit being bored by articles on previous winners on how they do and what they've won (simple solution, don't read them), those lucky bastards. :grumpy:

Mr. Avens, please tell us more insider information!💡

Those are known facts you can search on google. Furthermore, we all know GT5's massive flaws.

And there wouldn't be a need for insider information if PD acted like turn10 does and kept the community updated every single week with major releases every month.
They just announced they will be having 2 DLC packs on May: Top Gear, which is one of the mostly asked things here just right after filling the gap GT5 has with Forza4 (around 400 unique premium cars lol), and 30 porsches, which is the single most.

Yeah, that's GT5's problem.. they aren't more like Forza.. :dopey:

Guys, although this sounds temptating and it was confirmed that the GT Academy mini trail will have unlockables for the main game, I highly doubt the prize will be nothing more than a Nissan Leaf with GT Academy badges (which is cool since I like the car). This could mean that the only thing that we might be getting soon is an update that will add this "prize" to the main game.

If to this point PD hasn't bothered to add DLC (which is money for them), adding other new material for free is HIGHLY unlikely.

Why do people keep thinking and hoping that one of the downloadable prizes will be the Acura/Honda NSX in a competition held partly by Nissan? Do you actualy read anything that is associated with the GT Academy?
