I see people are still pretending that 'Tourist Trophy', 'GT5:P' and 'GT:PSP' never happened so they can claim PD spent 5 years working only on GT5. :odd:

....... đź’ˇ Aha! Now I understand why PD took so long to make GT5, "only now in 2012?" And that's the reason why Kaz wanted 2 more years to make it. Haha. Why didn't he say anything like that? Wasn't 2006 GT5:P, 2009 being GTPSP, and 2010 being GT5? So the employees had to work on different games then? Now imagine GT6 being worked on the big workforce by PD finally. :)

When was Tourist Trophy made again? Can't seem to remember. :odd: PD went through lots of projects back then.

Tourist Trophy was finished by early 2006, Prologue wasn't a completely different game, just basically what they had done for 5 up to that point and the PSP game had very little new assets.

A little bit of topic, but i belive that GT5 was just a form to gain some money to "pay" for the GT5 development. $60M usd is not cheap.
Also It was used as test bed, how to integrate some online functionalities, how to work properly on the ps3 hardware, how to udate. Anyway GT5P it is soo nicely done.

I'm happy about GT5 final product, not perfect but still INCREDIBLE.
And about GT Academy, they are expanding it little by little, so maybe in the near future there would be a Global GT Academy. Logistics, sponsoships, cars, tyres, fuel, etc... is not cheap but its nice to se some "From Game to Reality" the Vision Gran Turismo slogan.

I love how you just dismiss the point it's still work. You make it seem as it's nothing and easy. I was watching some video on Randy Orton and he said the commercial you see of him is about 30 seconds but it took them 6 hours to shoot. Some folk need to understand what might seem easy and simple to you is usually not the case during development for the team.

GT was a bugger to get down to PSP quality, game design and programming-wise.

This is part of the reason I created this thread not another wihlist, not another bash, discussion post. I made it mainly to know what do users prefer, according to their locations or wathever reason they have.

If you could choose wich one would you prefer. That why i made this post....
If someone has been hurt as a result of this thread, sorry. Not intended.
So you know, I knew this wasn't another one of those threads. The poll just seems pointless, because we're getting GT Academy no matter what.

If you explained that in your original post without a poll, my guess is that most people wouldn't have seen any kind of problem with this. Nonetheless, it still turned out to be more about discussing the question rather than a numbers game.

👍

About a Global GT Academy - It seems very possible. Not in the immediate future, but in a decade or so.

Well, lets fix that. I will update the 1st post. Done, FIXED

I do love the idea of a GT A.. its a nice example of a "reallistic" (but not perfect) phisics, and how close they are. Of course, the learning curve from game to reality, is progressive but they have an idea 👍

^^^ Agreed. They still took time and resources to make.

I'm not dismissing it, I'm just saying it's not like they made 3 completely different games as some people seem to suggest. They were making 2 very similar games with similar content, it's not like they stopped making GT5 to make a FPS or something. As I said GT5:P was not a separate game, they basically started making a HD GT game which evolved from GT:HD into GT5 and during the production they took what they had and produced GT5:P. They didn't sit there and build GT5:p as a separate game that took time away from GT5, it was all working towards the same final goal of a PS3 quality GT game. Building a car for GT5:P didn't take away time from GT5 development because that car could be used in GT5.

Again with GT:PSP do you not agree roughly 90% of the assets they either already had or again were making for GT5. Yes it took them time to optimise it for the PSP and build the rest of it but that still can't have taken too long. The content was already there, they just had to work it into the smaller game. It's not like some of the modelling staff were taken away from GT5 to make assets for GT PSP.

Once again, how do you know that?

I assume you are currently working on a major gaming company, or you are just making things up.

Simply put, what PD's competition does is to outsource some work because they don't have the manpower, just like PD doesn't. I'd prefer using all the money that went into GT academy into paying another company to model the 800+ remaining standard cars.

Why do I have to be working in a major games company or making it up? Its perfectly good common sense and logic to see that spending time working on something doesn't automatically mean that time has been taken away from something else that isn't even a certainty anyway!

Read what I am saying, PD could well be working on DLC at the same time as GT Academy - we don't know. But its silly to decide that because we see them working on one but not the other that we assume that means they are diverting time and effort 100% wholly into GT Academy.
But I'm also saying that we also don't even know if more DLC is even an option - maybe PD cannot afford the licenses, cannot obtain them or are preferring to work on GT6 now.

I'm not saying that I know their decision process one way or another - just that its silly for us to decide we know and make assumptions. There is nothing wrong with speculating, but there is certainly something wrong with just straight assuming and pretending to know the decisions involved. It seems all gaming forums seem to be plagued by this - people thinking they know why developers/publishers make decisions and then basing their opinions off it with little or no evidence.

I'd also like to add that DLC could well be finished and ready for release for all we know, but PD/Sony won't release it immediately, they would time it for best effect. It could be argued either way that DLC would sell best around GT Academy or not, but its just another facter we know nothing about.

If GT:PSP were so easy to make they wouldn't have announced it in 2004 and not released it until 2009 now would they? Clearly it's not something that they knocked together over a quiet weekend.

we can debate how long Tourist Trophy, GT5:P and GT:PSP took to make.....but no mater what answer you come up with it shows that GT5 was not in development for 5 years since PD were working on these other projects for some unknown amount of that time.

Sorry.....it's just that "GT5 took 5 years to make" is such an overworked and lazy argument and yet it crops up time and time again :grumpy:

Afternoon GT Planet, might I recommend looking at the title of the thread again? ;)

I came across this just now and felt like people should hear it from Kaz.

Watch the whole video, if possible. People think GT PSP was a piece of cake to create.

Perfect questions asked and awesome interviewer, by the way.

To kind of stay on topic, here's this.

Thank you for that awesome video another_jakhole. :) I'm disappointed in Kaz though, for making so much titles. He should never do that again. He should only stick to "one" game to make, no wonder it took GT5 so long to come. And those tracks that were in their computer. Guess those tracks are going to GT6 now.

They better not be making another title along with GT6, which is GT Vita...

I actually would love GT Vita and GT6. If they were the same game with offline cross play that would be amazing. At the very least, though, the portable title need a full fledged career mode along with matchmaking, leader boards, and online play.

Well according to the details you can get rewards for GT5 so they maybe cars or other things. Either way I don't mind if its a separate game or not. I'm just happy that they're doing add-ons and DLC

My personal choice would be Patch for those who DL the GT A... to integrate it a little bit better. The"bonus cars" will be nissan's, wich i dont care, they look good!

DLC as something "plus" maybe at the end of May... i have a thoery, that PD postponed it to accomplish the date of GT. but patch, dlc is there, just a quick change on priorites. A deal that big with Nissan & Sony, have more priority. More $$$, marketing, and the respect for the GT franchise.

But I like the idea of GT A.. i will play with it. Even when it is not available for LA... as I said before, someday a Global GT Academy. or even other typer of events.

Just as GT5P was a test bed for the final GT5. GT Academy appart from being the big cheese it could be also a test bed for new improvements for GT online community. World GT Championship. Leaderboards, etc....

my thoughts.
